Hi guys got a slight problem with my breaks.

When the weather is really really cold my breaks do not work properly. If I slam my brakes or push the brakes down like normal the brake peddle vibrates and I can feel it on my foot. Also the car does not stop as normally does whren the car is warm.

After a while (5 mins later) it is ok.

Anyone know what i need to replace?

oh ok, thanks,

is that checked in a major service? its due for one this week.

if its loose, then how come the sound goes away after 20 minutes once the car is warmed up.

Also what are the implications if it snaps? is it as serious a cambelt snapping?

Hi

Recently I have been hearing a noise from my car when its started up on cold. The temperature in England is about 2 Degree Centegrade recently. It goes away after the car gets warmed up.

The car seems to related to the power steering. The sound changes when the wheel is turned slightly. It is quite loud sounding like a long chirp.

Apart from this there is no other unexpected noises. It doesnt seem to be the engine as it seems fine when i rev it and its not linked to the noise.

Anyone able to potentialy diagnose this?

Much appreciated,

Thanks

Hi I am trying to install Alpine Type S Component speakers. Currently I have the original factory speakers and stereo installed.

I think I know whats going on, but just need some info from you experts!!

I have have looked and read the post "Fabricated 6.5" Speaker mounts from the stock 8" front mount, Easy and free" that Death wrote http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...peaker&st=0 and just have a couple of questions.

So.... I have taken the passenger side door off and taken the origianl speaker off, cut it out and will be sticking on the new Alpine 6.5" woofer in place of the original using the metal casing that the original speaker came with. (I just did what Death did). I will also then install the tweeter somewhere.

Im now on Step 8 (from Deaths post)

"8. This step will be different for several different setups. I chose component speakers so I ran the stock wires to the input of the included crossovers [you will just splice them into your new speaker's wires if you choose to use full range speakers - pretty self explanatory]. I then ran the "woofer" output from the crossover to the new 6.5"s and ran a length of wire from the "tweeter" output to be used later and mounted the crossover to the enclosure [this is a perfect example of where not to mount the crossover on the driver's side. This is exactly where the window controls sit - I figured this out as I was installing the last peice of my door panel - the controls . This is a great example of where to mount them for the passenger side (in other words you need a mirror image of this setup for the driver's side door]:"

Just to get some extra clarity before I start ...

QUESTION 1 -- Do I cut the white plugs off the Purple and pink wire (extend the wire with solder or extension adapter it if necesery to reach the cross over box) and atach these two wires at the INPUT TERMINAL on the cross over box?

QUESTION 2 -- As these wires were attached to the ORIGINAL speaker terminals (via the white plug interface), is this pink/purple wire from the HEAD UNIT AMP or are the AMP WIRES different and found somewhere else?

Thanks for your patients guys, sorry if I am asking too many simple questions, just never done something like this before!!

Hey,

I cleaned the throttle as you guys said, there wasnt much dirt in there at all, it virtually look brand new inside there. I cleaned it thorougly, saw a little black bits of oil but nothing major.

I also pumped the accelerator pump which opened the throttle and my friend stuck a screw driver with a cloth on to clean and also sprayed with the carb cleaner.

Thing is the accelerator still is a little sticky when the car starts from cold. Its not that much of a major issue, a quick push with my leg will unclog the stuff ness and its smooth again.

Is there anything else that I should be looking to clean?

hi there guys,

thanks for your input. Next question ......

how easy is the throttle to clean for a beginer? I have no experience with cars but an good with fixing bits and peices following instructions. I assume this is just a cleaning issue

If you can install a head unit and speakers from scratch from a technical view point, do you think someone could clean the throttle? Also I am able to fix bikes (regular bikes not motorbikes).

I assume you do not need to unscrew anything/ take parts apart as you would do with a major mechanical issues such as engine work, or clutches etc.

Hi guys, im planning on buying 2 x Alpine speakers 6.5" and buying a sony DAB 52w RMS head unit.

Now I have heard that Type R speakers may require an amp to get the maximum quality sound and loudness. Is this true?

What about type S speakers? Is it not required to use an amp as its less power?

Could a novice like myself do this? Does it require expert installation? Do I need to mess around with any of the car's electrical systems eg affecting the fuse box etc? sorry i dont know much about cars!

thanks

Hi guys,

what consists in a full service as opposed to a basic service?

Also I am aware that oil filters, spark plugs are changed, is there anything else to clean out/ replace/ re fluid especially for the Celica?

I am new to this having only had my car for the last 2 weeks and i want to iron out any maintenance issues.

thanks

hi there guys,

When my celica is turned on from cold, the accelerator peddle seems to be blocked/stuck. I am not able to gentley press it. I have to push it hard with my foot and then the acceleration peddle becomes smooth.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is it a throttle pump?

hi,

I have a celica which i brought last wek. HWn i ride it it goes to the left naturally unless i keep my hands on the wheel and keept it central.

Do you think this is a big job to fix or is it to do with the tracking of the car?

My tires are correctly inflated.

Hi guys, appreciate your help in previous posts!

got a question with regards to my celicas belts.

1) what is the difference between the CAM belt and Timing belt? is it the same thing?

2) Also the belt that i have - i do not know when it was changed. I have a full service history from the last 10 years on my 97 Celica ST. But i do not see anywhere it mentioned about the cam belt being changed. I do not want to take chances and screwing up my ride. The belt on inspections looks new - and the thread is deep, but i amn know mechanic so dont know the deal.

Thanks!!

QUOTE (Supersprynt @ Oct 1, 2008 - 3:39 PM) *
They're pretty solid. I had the original calipers on my car with 200k on the clock and they were fine.

Only rust I'd watch for is inside of door on the bottom and under spoilers but this isn't a common issue just something to look out for.

hey dude, thanks for info, so is the 6th gen more solid that the 7th gen? Also how good is the engine and clutch on the 6th gen? I plan to get a 10 year old car with 80k on the clock, and plan to do at least 22k motorway miles each year for work.

Reason i ask is that i dont know much abnout cars and need a reliable car

Hi guys really appreciate your help. I am about to buy a 1998/1999 celica and just wanted to know what i should look out for, in terms of expected manufacturing errors eg certain faults (if there is any major one reported).

I have seen many celicas that state in their advert that they have had NEW BRAKE CALIPERS, but i havnt seen this mentioned on any other toyota cars. Is this a common error taht occurs? Also is their any rust problems, anything to look out for?

Thanks, much appreciated!
