Sorry but you will have to count me out... piston rings are shot so no road trips for me.

Brought GT-4 with a dodgy intake setup. Was unable to source the factory setup so have cleaned it up a bit... intake pipe, breather filters etc.

Part of this new improved intake involved using an oil breather filter, initally this was ok but later on it started to spit a bit of oil out and now if I fang it then its a whole lot of oil. Bodgied up a home made catch can to get an idea of how much its using and on a long trip is around 50-100mls.

Add to this some sort of wierd vapour mainly around low revs (1500 to 2500) - not sure if its water vapour or something else (maybe burning oil somewhere??).

I guess a catch can will fix the messy part and stop oil spillage messing up the engine bay but is this much oil normal? and whats with the vapour - terminal??

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated...

I was thinking of heading down to the 4 & rota meet so if there are a few others keen on that it could be the way to go?

I am 50/50 at this stage. Depends on the dates as looking at road trip down south.

But pretty keen to get some advice and compare rides. My GT4 has been feeling sluggish lately - maybe its just in my head or maybe its terminal (sigh)

Can someone please confirm what the factory fuel cut is when running higher boost? I have installed a boost tap and been playing with boost levels a little.
But from the differnt gauges I have been using to check the boost levels I went to 1.2bar/16psi kinda mark. I was expecting to find a some sort of fuel cut about here and didnt really want to push things any further.

The other idea was that maybe there is a FCD already installed by a previous owner, where would i find this if I was to start looking?

Man you dont know what your missing!

Went away to taupo for the weekend for a stag night, started having a wierd miss on boost on the way up and ot worse - think its the BOV leaking boost under high pressure so had to feather the gas on the way back... sigh

(And if you were curious the stag did had a yodel in the taxi and in his bed - messy)

*** Miss was the HT leads... turns out i had some pretty serious cracks, car is running a lot better now I have replaced them. Hope thats the last of it for a while...

This one was from a caldina apparently, screwed on easy as. Looks and feels a lot better...

How would you like a big shiny ball gear knob? I know of one going cheap! wink.gif

Hi all, being a new owner I would be keen to meet up... especially if in North Island.
Heading to track/strip would be pretty cool as well.

Well I kinda brought my GT4 by accident, was suppose to be getting a 4 door auto - aristo or chaser... but somehow i ended up with a GT4.
The main reason is simply having the power on tap, having something less common and its quite a good looking car but lets face it - its not that practical - but its a nice feeling seeing a pissed off look of the commodore driver you just smoked...

Looks good. What's up with the giant shift knob?

Yeah I am not sure who put it in, might have had giant hands? Not really my scene and is on the list for removal.
Car also came with some other classy items... giant tacho (with shft light), dragon seat covers and fake chrome check plate floor mat things - not cool.

Happy ending...
After sorting out the dented panels, water pump, belts, seals, knock sensor its running pretty much as it should - no leaks or limp mode. As its the 1st (and only) GT4 i have driven it is surprisingly quick and fun to drive.

It seems worth the hassle now (just need to find more time to drive it)

Sweet as man.

Nice part of the country.

Yea i wouldn't call it a lemon. maybe a dog.

Once you get it running good i believe you will be very happy with it.

It always pays to get a pre-purchase inspection done.

Yeap, shouldnt have rushed into it or at least done some more research - thought it was an ok deal ($5k) and it just needed a bit of time and some minor jobs... to top i off it looks like i got a leaking water pump or something around there now.
I once owned a Rover Tomcat, a few painfull memories of that thing came flooding back...

They have a pretty fierce rep from what i have heard so looking forward to getting it straight and going for a decent fang.

Anyway, off on holiday for a couple of weeks so this can just wait till I return!

I have been a st205 owner for just over a week now... and its not been pretty.

Stage one, fix the clunk in the suspension - bottom arms needed replacing + wheel alignment = $980
Stage two, sort out the perished intake - this worked out ok and managed to scam some written off intake pipe from another kit to bodgy something together as a mid term soltion.
Stage foura good one, knock sensor need replacig from what i can tell... getting code 52 with diagnostic check. Is this a common issue? What else can go wrong? I am hanging out to get this thing running without being in 'limp mode'. Oh and thanks to Manawatu Toyota for a grat price on a new KS.

I upgraded (or is that a down grade?) from a JZX100 Mark II. Toyotas are suppose to be bullet proof and already I have dumped around $1500 into it in just 7 days...

And to top it off someones Nana decided giving way is for suckers... car is off to the shop this week to get some panel and paint.

Have recently got mylsef a Gt-four but needs decent clean up and a few replacement parts. Starting with pipe that goes from turbo to airbox (current one has a split) and also factoy airbox if one availble.
Or perhaps there is a decent aftermarket option out there?
