I had the engine out while I replaced all the gaskets and seals, head, clutch, etc. It's back in as of this past Sunday. The engine stand pic was the best one I had at the moment of how it looks now. |

Since I've been lurking and searching for the last year or so, I figured I'd show what I've been up to. This is what she looked like the day i took possession from my brother. Tired and rather dirty. This is what she looks like as of last night. Sorry for the Cell phone pic, camera battery was dead. A couple weeks ago. |

Looks good. I'm hoping that the paint holds up too. I just used the same stuff on my Supra Valve covers. |

My Supra's the same. Drums are better for parking brakes because they self energize whereas Disc brakes can slip easier. Only if they're set up right though. |

Yes, I'm doing the clutch. Right now I feel lucky to have driven it from the driveway to the shop out back because it slips SOOO much. Probably a new flywheel at the same time because how bad it feels. I'll see when I take her apart. I'm planning on doing it all at the same time. Head, intake, exhaust, valve cover... gaskets, and any seals that I come in contact with. The timing belt and water pump too. The motor's got 200,000 miles right now, so we'll see what more she can do. |

I didn't even think about that when I titled the thread... Should be better now. D-man, I'm assuming you're saying yes to being worth pulling the engine? |

As I'm removing the tranny to install a new clutch, is it better to remove the engine to replace seals/gaskets? I presently have no hoist or engine stand, but can access one. I'm getting a gasket set from Toyota to button this thing back up but don't know what would be easier. I know that it's alot easier to work on the engine outside of the car, but is it worth the time to pull it for that? |

As a former resident of East Tennessee, it's an unbelievable drive. 318 turns in 11 miles is the greatest feeling I've had behind the wheel in a long while. I would LOVE to be there for this. Why did I move again??? I have to say it's worth the trip if you're thinking about it. |

I know the feeling. Alot of people think that my Supra is a Mitsubishi Starion/ Chrysler Conquest. Even though it's got a GIANT decal across the back that says S U P R A. I like the looks of the Curren, but I think that it's quite a subdued design as compared to that of a Celica. |

The guy with the silver 85 MK2 Supra (1JZ) was trying to get several of us from Celicasupra to go as well. If it wasn't right before payday I probably would have been there too. Looks like you guys had a great time. |

He hasn't mentioned it making any new noises lately, but he's been car pooling with his wife in their truck for quite some time now. The Celica stays in the garage quite a bit. I'll ask though. After talking to him he says that it's not really making any noise that sounds like the exhaust. It seems to be just a surface crack that's just starting. As for the spring meet, if I'm there it'll probably be just me in the Supra as my brother lives in El Paso. I'll try though. |

Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. In the next week I'm starting to refresh my brother's 94 ST Coupe. As to my knowledge it's rust free as it's been in the southern portion of Texas all it's life. I started looking up things on ToyotaCelica.com site, but it didn't feel like a home. Too vague and general. I presently daily drive an 85 Supra that's been my pride and joy. I've been a member of Celicasupra.com for quite some time, so I know how to use the search function. That's not to say I won't ask a random stupid question now and then. At present I'm trying to assess the normal wear items that need to be replaced, so as to be prepared for what lies shortly ahead. The car has around 207,000 miles on it and is now starting to have some mechanical fits. The items that I'm already planning on repairing or replacing if needed are Struts, brakes, tie rod ends, clutch, suspension bushings, ball joints, timing belt, motor mounts. The ignition system was given a tune up almost exactly a year ago (roughly 7000 miles ago) but I'll still be checking it out. My brother isn't exactly mechanically inclined, and I'm presently in school for ASE certification here at the local Community College. If you kind folks can think of anything that is normal to wear out that I haven't mentioned, I would certainly be appreciative. Now for my first actual question. The stock exhaust manifold has developed a crack from what I'm told. Is it better to replace it with another OEM type part or check for aftermarket upgrades? In my opinion If something's broken I usually upgrade it to something better. However as it's not my personal car... If I was to upgrade, is there a downside to the part? IE tendency to crack, fitment issues, etc... |
