Hi,

I've a 1996 Jap Import ST202 6th gen Celica.

The airbag warning light is on and I followed the instructions here to get a diagnostic fault code 14 which points to an ignition/ignition signal related problem.
Which sounds about right, as the ECU clears the warning lights when I start her up, and only comes back on when I reverse a few meters out the driveway.

But I just want to check whether fault code 14 means ignition problems when the engine management light is on, but might mean something else when the airbag light comes on. Are there separate interpretations of it ?

I suspect there may be a separate minor dashboard wiring problem if the engine management light should've come on.
I say this because when I indicate left or right, both left & right dashboard indicator lights flash simultaneously.
Only once did this work, ie. only flashed left when indicating left, when I happened to have the heater on full.

If the engine management light should've come on, then maybe someone was trying to hide the airbag light not lighting up, or I see someone had installed an old LED strip and may have messed up the wiring there...

cheers,
Owen

The air bag warning light is on in my car too, and I borrowed a mates ODB 2 car diagnostic tool.
I was hoping it was as simple as connecting the diagnostics tool, reading the error codes and clearing them... but I can't find the ODB 2 socket.

Does a 1996 6th gen Toyota Celica ( ST 202 ) have an ODB 2 socket ?

I popped open the little compartment under the dashboard, where the fuses are located. But didn't see any ODB 2 socket.

Any ideas ? Or was I just wrong to assume a Japanese import car would have one ?

cheers,
Owen
