QUOTE (yarik83 @ Sep 13, 2009 - 9:41 PM) *
There are reasons why things are they way they are. Latest rumor is that celica will be catered to your dad and your grandpa. Latest rumor is that people are also trying to buy environmentally and gas efficient vehicles. What boggles my mind though is that while toyota keeps scratching their head I see the general trend sort of "leave" toyota cars.
Just look outside your window and count number of all wheel drive subaru wrx. You can stop counting at 10 because you will be done counting in probably next 10 minutes.

Sure lets built fuel efficient vehicles... but lets also at least try to retain your dignity or something. There are now far more evolutions and sti's cruising around than there are honda and toyota vehicles. Not everywhere, of course but toyota has arguably kissed their sports vehicles good bye. I think what is happening is that as all of us car tuners growing up we tend to "upgrade" to what is available.

As for revival of celica... we are going to see exactly what is it in just little bit. Tokyo motor show is just around the corner in october. I think.... well I know.. that if this little promotional concept car will turn out to be a sports dud then my next vehicle will be either evo9 or evo10. My 11 year commitment to toyota brand,,, and my parent's commitment to toyota brand is stretching thin.

Bottom line is that people buy sports cars knowingly that they will be eating gas like crazy but deliver all the fun in the world. What car manufacturers need to do is keep producing sports cars but price them lower. Lets look at evo vs sti debacle. One costs 30 and one costs 40. Both vehicles are comparable but one comes out to $800/mo and another to about $500 and therefore you see far more sti's than evo's. If toyobaru was a all wheel drive bucket of fun priced at $400 per month I swear I would jump on that idea so fast its not even funny.
i see more of the newer mustangs more then anything else, havent seen a sti or an evo for a while.ive seen more massaratis than subarus lol and a wrx for me is around $350 a month and i have no credit history, i guess you just have to talk to the dealer.

toyota is like austin powers, its lost its mojo.

boxer engine noooo!!!! and with subaru, friggin horrible. Just when you thought toyota was starting to get back into the racing scene they decide to use subaru's 4 cylinder boxer engine. eww frown.gif

toyota needs to make another engine with yamaha. biggrin.gif

if the gt is going to be rear wheel drive, they should make some more horsepower, so that they can compete with the s2000.

i believe that subaru should not make a car with toyota. subaru has a good thing going(yes making a car with toyota will give it more spotlight but subaru is a car people buy because its what they want(what i call the subaru lifestyle).) and to be honest i take subaru more seriously than toyota, toyota just seems to pump out cars to make money(in my opinion toyotas now are pretty bland like the camrys/corrollas of the 90's, they are soo focused on what honda/nissan does that they all end up making the same car IMHO) subaru on the other hand gives you a no BS car. they offer you what the car is; unlike a celica/tc/ civic si or any fwd "sports" car they just dont give you the "feel" of a sports car subaru delivers in my opinion great cars and they are only going to get better. toyota being the great company that it is has the abitlity to produce a true rwd sports car that will eat up anything gm, ford, could possibly make. imo the toyburu or w/e its called is a bad idea for both companies. toyota has the ability and more importantly the capital to make it happen. i hope toyota does make a true sports car and im waiting for that day. sorry if i offend anyone its just that like both companies but subaru is just special to me. biggrin.gif

toyota own a part share in subaru.....
its easier and cheaper to make 2 cars from one chassis design......

whether its right or wrong its good business.....IMO...... but i am sceptical about a boxer powered rwd.....
subaru have the market in 4WD vehicles... it would be stupid of them and toyota to compete head to head for suach another car....
Hense a RWD toyota version...... and from what ive read they will look different just share the same chassis.....

so for those that wish to ... it would be quite possible to then turn the celica into a 4wd weapon......using the subaru gear.. as it's made for the same chassis.......

massive plus for those in the modding business.....

im aware of toyota owning i belive 18-20% of subaru, its just that id rather not see it happen even if its a celica. toyota has the full potential of building great sports cars on their own like the supra it was and still is a good true sports car. have they forgotten what it took to make the supra? toyota is a great powerful company that could easly make a better car than subaru, have the engineers/designers forget how they made gt4's/mr2's/supras? toyota has the experiance to create their own sports car. subaru should stick to awd its what they do best. i would not drive a subaru with a toyota badge. what about lexus they make great cars maybe toyota should look into stripping down and redesigning it. its a great base for a toyota sports car. plus the competition between companys is what truly improves a brand. were would the sti stand with out an evo, supura/rx7/3000gt/skyline they are all responses to one another the merging and cooperation of companies is good for business but bad for the cars, in the end there would be less sports cars offered, and it would dilute a companies full potential.

too bad they never made the Celica Wagon, I have seen photos of the prototype, unless they did and never bought it to the USA. Front end of a 6gc, back end of a wagon. Then you could have gotten it and had a real "Dragon Wagon".

You could go with a Subaru wagon, legacy wouldn't be bad either, but if you want something nice and also family....... Nothing says both like a Scion Box! And you still be with Toyota! :-D

lol sorry but i havent had that great of an expiriance with toyota man. I would like to know what are the things subaru owners like and dont like about their car. kinda how the cup holder in our cars get in the way(worse cup holder ever imo) is it just me or is it impossible to find windshield wipers that actually work (ive tried all of them even those counture crap and nothing seems to do their job right mad.gif .) but i do like the celi looks and how it has that cheesy smile in the front lol

it was given to as a college present(since not alot of people from my hood do much after high school) but ever since i received the car it has been a huge money pit! so far in ashamed of it. the sunroof leaks, suspension has gone bad, bad fuel pump, and it goes on. but i have not given up on her yet. but i still have my eyes out for a STi.

hyundai had no history of building performance cars or participating in racing events, but the Genesis is their first true sports car. hyundai reliability is probably one of the top 5 right now so i wouldn't call them cheap (unlike their cars in the 90s where they really made poor quality cars). HKS and a few other tuning companies have already begun production with Genesis aftermarket performance parts. I just hope hyundai keeps this up so they can compete with the japanese makers like Nissan, Honda, and Toyota especially and relive the 90s by building high performance cars all over again.

I believe they have a rally car or had one at one point but im pretty sure they did. i would look into the subaru(my first choice) since I have a family i would also (and i know this is not a gt4, but hey you have the money) consider getting a cadillac cts-v and pay it monthly or a 05 STi. just my opinion. biggrin.gif
