to make everything easier you can start off with a manual celica .... thats not an option i would wait to get both the tranny and engine all the same time from the same shop .... then install all the components need for a manual dropping engine and tranny in same time cuz its easier droping tranny only and trying to put another tranny on ...then having to change engines make more work |

my advice ..if you want a manual ...sell your car and get a manual theres alot of parts you need to buy ....my manual s54 tranny just went out and i had a heck of a time looking for just another tranny or a rebuild kit honestly if the 5sfe is stock ...keep it stock ...running auto ecu with manual tranny may fail smog..screw up the cruise control if you plan on the 3sgte ...find the shop your getting the motor from ...chances are there will be a fwd tranny you can grab ....take both at the same time for a cheaper price ... while everything is out ...is easier for you to add the extra parts to the car to make it a manual....or get an mr2 rear clip and convert everything as for the e153 conversion ...there no point doing it on a stock motor ....maybe better fuel mileage ... lower highway cruise rpm ...it will make your engine dog |

ok so the wiring diagram does not show information on the back windows for a 98 vert GT i rolled driver side back window down the other day ...and it wont go back up i have power all the way up to the plug behind the back panel i can hear clicking for the relay when its goes down .... im guessing there maybe a relay to go up ...when i try to push up it wont go up and there is no clicking .....i haven no idea where the relay is mounted in this car based on my diag the Up relay is messed up ...any one know the location ? my awesome quick fix was to unpin the plug on the back panel and repin the wires backwards doing so i was able to get the window to go up and now it wont go down ... |

why does everyone look down on megan's ive had megans for 3 years now ...theyre just as good as theyre were new a long time ago when i bought em the spring rate was 7front and 5rear i just took a look and people are now selling megans with 8front and 6 rear ive had no leaks.. no blown shocks.. no noise.. no rust.. my friends have megans for thier 240's and they work great as well so i decided to try em oh and recommended when you get coil overs you WILL need camber bolts in the rear and the camber plate on the top defeats the purpose of adjusting camber for track use cuz when you adjust the camber with the top plates ...your toe changes just some advice |

need more info ...first off Idle at 2k to 3k .....techinically thats not idling ...unless its at 2-3k without you touching the pedal most people interpret a missfire as many different things can you explain more in depth how you can recreate this missfire ? your speed mph ? are you on the throttle 100% ? has the car have recent work ? when did this start happening ? during this missfire what kinda noise do you hear ?does the rpm stumble? was this car non operative for a long time? any smoke during missfire? any smoke at start? strange smells ? does it happen as your moving the throttle ? is your engine covered in oil dirt or grime heavily anwhere? |

Yeah looks like its the transmission, jacked it up and made my dad drive and almost certain its coming from there and not the driveshafts, defs think its the same as what you have chinaman, will see when I take the driveshaft out. you can check by jacking the car up putting jack stand on for safety reasons take the wheel off ...then take the mud guard off grab the center of the cv shaft and pull up and down on it and side to side ( not in and out) it should barely move talking like less then 1mm of movement ( i can look up specs later for you) we are checking the movement of the inner cv shaft going into the transmission you can also put the car in gear any gear then rotate it clock wise and counter clock wise there is free play before the gears actually move the axles( the part where it moves with the least resistance) there should be very minimal freeplay ...talking like less than 1mm again (i can find specs later) my car lol the inner cv moved like it was a hot dog in a hallway and i had too much freeplay clockwise and counter clock wise basically the clunking is everytime you put a load on the axle (accel decel) the tranny gears move first ...then its over comes the freeplay ..and metal slams into metal basically beating it self to death |

normally you would get a clicking from the cv before the clunking in my situation i got the clunking first .....and eventually it got worse ... then got to the point where it clunked every rotation and yes my inner cv boot is broken and have been broken for over 6months cuz im lazy to fix it (poor student) but when i pulled them out and checked it ...it was still good with no abnormal play or damage instead i found my inner cv input walking around in the transmission my clunk happens accel and decel with a medium load on engine forward and reverse i jacked the car up and drained the oil ...i got a metallic mist ( very fine metal material) in the oil the noise i had sounded like it was the driver cv axle but it was inside the tranny |

the 5sfe usually comes with the s54 transmission. I dont think you'll be able to just change the gear ratios, cars aren't as simple as lego's unfortunately and theres alot to keep track of when mixing and matching parts. I would just swap in a better condition s54 instead. if you want longer gear ratios then go with the e153 from an mr2/v6 camry/solara. with an mr2 e153 you will need to convert it to FWD, and you will need hybrid axles regardless of which e153 you find i called a shop and they have an mr2 tranny for a 3s motor ....i guess it is the E153... i heard about this but which hybrid axles will work ? does anyone know ? i saw some threads about it but i lost it EDITED : ok so i did my research there are alot of opinions on this e153 tranny everything is still unclear -can i keep my 5sfe clutch and pressure plate ? -can i use my 98 GT cables ? -can i use my 98 GT mounts ? -can i use the inner mr2 cv shafts and my 98 GT outer cv ? i need an exact parts list to do the perfect swap the first time |

ok so im going to rebuild my manual transmission and i run into this problem where i have trouble finding transmission information everything is not listed clearly. i have a 98 celica GT 5sfe manual convertible the info i need: -what Transmission code do i currently have? - what are my alternate transmission code options from other cars ? -in what car do i find these other transmissions? -i need transmission ratios..i see a page with ratios listed but does not tell me transmission code -im looking to replacing my final ratio/ or 5th gear to a longer gear ratio. My car does a hair less then 4k RPM at cruise 70mph . Do all the parts in these transmission interchange? - are there alternative gears i can use from other transmissions? -Are engine/transmission mounts different in a convertible vs a hardtop id like to build a manual transmission list and info on interchangeable parts since i am having a hard time looking for the info i need |

i too have this problem .... accel and decel i get the clunk lightly ..some sorta thurst or preload problem in tranny i just let it be to see how long it would last ( thinking it was my driver side CV axle) then one day i was getting off the freeway when out of the blue i get the clunk clunk clunk everytime the wheel was spining the clunk happens at every tire rotation so i stopped at a gas station... jacked the car up and pulled the wheel off all suspension components were good then i grabbed the center of the drive side axle and pulled it up and down and it had alot of play so at first i was thinking my axle shaft finally went out and i was wrong its the input side that goes into the transmission thats moving up and down side to side i limped the car home slowly and took everything apart to get a closer look my input side of the drive cv shaft is walking around in my transmission i tried rotating it and got tons of play ....in and out movement is ok im going to look up a transmission diagram later to find out the leading cause but im thinking bearings or busings or shims of some sort inside is bad my transmission is going to have to come out for sure im going to do a full rebuild as well 5afe manual owners 4th to 3rd down shift grinds |
