Here is a good project car for someone.... A 1997 Celica GT Conv, Red with black cloth, black top. Has Salvage title due to front end collision 2 years ago, but it has all been fixed and the entire car has been re-painted. Still needs fender liner, hood latch cable, and the back glass is loose on the top. Has aftermarket wheels and tires installed, but I still have the originals as well. The 2200 engine only has 95k miles, so plenty of enjoyment left in this car. Looking to get $3250 due to repairs still needed. E-mail for pics or questions.

As summer is approaching, I thought I would get back to fixing the minor issues on my vert. I am looking for a driver side rear window motor assembly. Let me know if you have one for sale or know of a place to get one without paying factory new prices. Thanks.

Just got beat to the quarter window motors. If the driver side is functioning and you are willing to pull that out or if the deal with plooke falls through, I need it. PM me. Thanks.

Late follow-up, but I figured I would post anyway in case a search came up later on. Took the Celica to the local dealer and they dis-assembled the shifter and found that the Shift Lock Plate was broken (part #33594-20050). Basically an $18 piece of plastic that tells the computer that the shifter is in Park, so the key will come out. They tried the shift lock selenoid, and the shift control module before settling on this small piece that was broken. It took them only 2 hours labor to dis-assemble and re-assemble the entire center console. So, the key now comes out and everything is A-OK.

Here's a quick pic....

You make it sound so easy... I had to replace that cross member that runs from front to back, and the rear mount was a pain. There are those two bolts that stick down from the bottom of the motor mount into that cross member. It took us releasing the suspension and putting a jack under the engine and lifting the engine to get those out and the new cross member back in (including a pry bar and two people). I was scared it was not going to go back in.

Got the same issue with my driver side quarter.... How did you determine that the motor was bad/good? Mine seems to be too far forward causing the front door glass to bow out slightly at the top. I don't hear anything when I press the driver side switch. The passenger goes up and down just fine.

I need to figure out how to either get the glass permanently down, or at least be able to push it up or down manually for now. I am not going to pay $450 for a motor from Toyota, plus whatever labor to put it in.

Let us know what you decide to do.....

Sounds like your ready to hit the road for some nice weather left this year. I am hoping to get mine finished up by Labor Day.

P.S. - where did you find the regulators for your rear quarter windows? When I hit the switch for my driver side rear, it does nothing, no click, no motor hum, no nothing. I am assuming it needs a full replacement. I need an idea of cost, before I tackle it. I may remove the linkage and just leave it down the rest of the year.

Just got pm from Stl95Celica and got on the thread. I didn't know there were this many people from the Midwest, as it seemed like most members were from Florida or California, but I am new around here. I just purchased my Celica in June, and it had front end damage (bumper, hood, radiator support, etc..) so I have been anxious to actually drive the thing all put together, so this meet next June might just give me an excuse for a road trip.

Although, we are expecting our second child in late December, so like Jimmykay, I will have a 6 month old and a 2 year old at home, so road trips may be out of the question, but let's hope I can get out for at least a day or two here or there.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and I will put it on my calendar for June 12-13, 2010. Thanks.

I just did the exact same thing to mine since I was re-painting the rear fender anyways (pic below of the hole being welded shut). I am going to use the internal antenna you have a link to and just put it up under the glove box as close to the door side as possible. I think this will pick up FM/AM reception just fine, as these are used on motorcycles all the time and get OK reception. Nowadays, I find myself using the Aux port and my ipod anyway. I say go for it. I should have mine done in about 2 weeks, so I will post the results then.

I personally like the Atomic's a bit better, but that is purely based on the features listed and how they look. The rails should be offered along with the seats. You can also check Andy's Autosport for more selection of seats with rails, some sliding.

I checked it again today. I moved the shifter many times from P to N to D and back. Key still won't go back to lock. As soon as I pulled the positive battery lead off, the key immediately came out. I have left it in there for the last 3 days without it draining the battery, so I guess I could just leave it in there. The car will only be at my work or in the garage anyways.

I also called the local audio shop since they install keyless entry and alarm systems. The main install guy there immediately mentioned a solenoid that tells the ignition that the gear shifter is in park. He said he could not replace it, that the dealership could, but at least he has me leaning towards that.

Thanks for posting the wiring diagram and diagnosis sheet.

Since the key does come out with the battery disconnected, it almost seems like something in the shifter is causing the issue. I will try the steering wheel lock and then fiddle with the shifter, to make sure it is engaging in Park. Does anyone know if there is a solenoid or some sensor that tells the ignition that the shifter is in Park. Something similar to the brake pedal relay or something. I am still lost, but hope this does not result in a huge repair bill.

I have finally got my 97 ready to run with a new radiator and condenser, and when I connected the battery back up and went to start it, I got nothing. After a few attempts, it turned over and ran fine, but when I turned it off, the key would not come out of the ignition. After looking through other posts, I couldn't seem to find an answers. Some say it is the factory alarm, others say it is a grounding issue. The little red light stays lit with the key in the ignition. I am afraid by leaving the key in the "ON" position, this will just drain my battery. Any ideas are appreciated on where to start looking for issues. Thanks.

I am getting ready to tackle the same project on my 97 wheels. I like this color on your car, but not for mine (red). I think all you need is a few coats of clear to give them some more shine. Plus it will somewhat protect the paint. Let us know how that paint wears after a few weeks on the road.

I am looking for the right side high beam seal (gasket) that goes into the front bumper and seals the glass to the bumper cover. If you have a spare lying around, or know of where to get this piece, please let me know. Thanks again.

When I pulled the two small black hoses off the back of mine, oil came out, not tranny fluid. Help me understand this, if those lines coming out of the front of the engine/tranny, going into the radiator are for cooling the ATF, why would it be oil in there. Obviously, the two larger black hoses take the anti-freeze throughout the block, but this is the first oil cooler built into the radiator that I have seen. I am putting a new one (actually recycled) in this weekend, so hopefully, those two extra ports are on there. I didn't ask the seller if they had an auto or std.

From what I can tell, anywhere from $150 - $250 should get one shipped to me.

How much are you looking to spend? I don't have one, but I might be able to locate one for you, which is why I asked.

I just missed out on a front bumper cover on the 'Bay from Jhot Imports and now I am getting to the end of my rebuild for my 97, and can't seem to locate an OEM style bumper cover. I have the fogs, bumper support and corner lights ready to go. Just need the cover and styrofoam insert. I think I can get the mounting hardware from the local dealer, unless that comes with it. Thanks for any items or information you can provide.

I am needing both fog lights for a 97. If you have a set or know of where to find them without ordering from Japan, I would appreciate a link or contact. Thanks.

I have a 97 convertible and am needing the driver side rear quarter window motor. It is not moving now, so the motor must be shot. I'll send PM as well. Thanks.
