I am still alive just spending more time with my little girl these days. My gen 3 car is still in one piece and looking new yet. The Superstrut is still on front and hope to get some track time this spring or mayb6e sell it. Looking at a job change so might be moving and NYC doesnt have many dirt tracks.

Hope you all doing well.

Sounds good on racing in the spring at Tyler County. I race at all around western PA and Western MD.

I will round up some pics but if you pull my old build thread you can see the cage install. We have been using the same cages for the other cars. I fabricated a trick quick disconnect for the steering wheel retaining the stock steering wheel and I recommend retaining the power steering vs eliminating it. Only run OEM axles....rebuilds from advanced will last about one race. Im running stock fuel tank vs a fuel cell.

In regards to LSD vs weld. I recommend welding as it's Just plain better on the dirt. After 3 celicas an 5 years of racing on the dirt there is no comparison as Welded trans will outperform LSD. The one caveat is each tracks rules. Some say no welded. However most tracks don't check or even care to enforce the rules. I have run some very small tracks an ur concerns in regards to tight turns r valid for a welded diff but even the 1/4 mile tracks r not an issue. Key is tires an suspension. The super strut is great but not worth the headache. The unreliability is a fact. If I get thru this season without a wheel coming off I will be surprised. It was good to test it out but going back to stock cause I need parts an finding them will be an issue an not worth the expense. Sorry I have been MIA. Will post up some pics soon an give me a call with any questions. I have built 3 of these an can give u a lot of pointers. Maybe we can race at Tyler county next spring.

I did have two spares, but I sent the Greytop to Turnip so he could use it for parts. I only have one spare now and after I get a few more bits and pieces from it, it's going to be hauled off for scrap. All you can do with a project like this is be patient since after all, most of what I'm fixing are my own mistakes more often than not. Once I get the TRD exhaust on, I'm going to see where I stand on the richness issue, then start looking into getting the BEAMS flywheel in.

AND THANK YOU!! Build 3.0 is done.

Thank got I have a plasma cutter cause taking the cage and engine out has proven to be a pretty good task. Cage didnt move at all so its a solid built car. Learned a few things on the weak spots. This is my Gen 1 build. Gen 2 is built and in the garage and has yet to see the dirt. As soon as this is completely gutted I will roll donor #3 in the garage for the Gen 3 build.

These mounts are awesome. I have them in both my race cars and they drastically reduce engine movement and im racing off road so everything is being jarred to hell and back. The only downside is installing the rear one. It can be a real pain in the A.

If you notch the rear motor mount a little it makes the job really easy as you gain more clearance. Thank you Mr. Plasma cutter.

Oh an those autozone axle are complete junk. I had one that did not last one race on dirt. So warranty or not they are junk. OEM the only way to go with LSD.

So the experimenting has begun. I pulled everything and the trans/LSD looks to be just fine. I cannot say the same about the clutch and pressure plate. I see an upgrade here.

So im playing with a few options here and I am not sure which way I am going to go. 1st. Beams back in with welded s54 trans and piggyback on ECU to raise rev limiter. 2nd. 3sgte with welded s54. This will likely end with pure destruction to the transmission but maybe it will make a race season since its all dirt. 3rd. 3sgte with e153 and hybrid axle setup.

welded diff

Will post more as the project progresses.

Thought I would bring this thread back alive with a recap of the race season as the car accumulated a few more wins this season and the BEAMs did what it should have.

Twice the exhaust got ripped off and thru the car into limp mode. However still won those races. The traction issue is an ongoing but its really based on the track running and if I need to shift at all. The track I normally run I can run in 2nd without shifting. Ideally I would love to have about 500 rpms more before hitting the redline. That would really make the setup ideal for this track. Got spun out a few times when starting on the pole by a repeat offender.

On a few 1/2 mile tracks had it rolling at 100 going into the turns. That will pucker your a$$ up a little. However its was these high speeds and the load on the front right that destroyed two axles. Now the last one definitely immobilized the car. I thought it was the clutch or pressure place that gave because definitely did not have any noise coming out of the tranny. But after pulling the engine and tranny the pressure plate looks okay and the clutch wear was acceptable but there was one corner of the clutch pad missing.

So its time to rebuild for next season.

Plan on putting a 3sgte from the caldina in after I straighten the frame and reinforce it from some racing mishaps.

Transmission is the question?? I am concerned about the hybrid solution for running the e153 based and how they will stand up. Used st185 axles are starting to get rare and thats an issue if I need one in a hurry. I have read I can get guts from the s51 and put into the s54 which will put me at 3.94 instead of 4.17 which should make a some difference on the turbo engine and not smacking the rev limiter. However I have the issue of popping the s54 from throwing too much power thru it. Now I am running exclusively on dirt which is less forgiving than asphalt and those trans can be had in a pinch if I pop one. In fact I have an extra one here now.

So any thoughts from you guys running 3sgte in a fwd application would be appreciated. Also I am building another beams race car for a team mate which will be the identical to my car this year except we are gonna weld the spiders in the trans to see how it performs. The beams pulled on all of the field on the straights but lagged coming out of the turns and I really think its because of how the LSD works vs a solid trans that has no slip. The neons just fly out of the turns with the welded trans. So i figured we would experiment a little.

Thanks as always.

In regards to the seats pictured above. I have the passenger and back seats. They are in pristine condition. I also have a complete black leather interior from a gt and cloth from an st. Driver seat is worn like one would expect on those. Shipping this stuff is brutally expensive because of size and weight. But if local to Baltimore/DC area pickup is available. I got a ton of mirrors and rear taillights. No headlights or fogs. Consoles are pretty picked over as is the radio bezel. Door panels, switches, window motors, sunroof, available.

Do You have the seats still?? I need the hinges and plastic on driver side that connects the back and seat. I am willing to pay $100 plus shipping.

I am interested in the rear seat back panels. I need both???? Also I need the center console lid! Give me shipping to the virgin Islands and we can make this happen! Ship through priority mail it is more easier.

St. Thomas USVI 00803

Let me look thru my parts and see what I still have around here. Hinges and plastic should be doable. I should have a console lid as well. Just need to check the shape of it.

These mounts rock. I have ran them all season in my race car and they do the job and sometimes the tracks are like corn fields. Two thumbs up. The back one is kind of a bitch to get in does the job well.

Take it off and loop it. My system is now a closed with no pump but it has fluid. Amazingly it doesnt turn hard at on pavement without power steering.

Thanks. I ordered everything for the tune up with exception to the timing belt because I did not see anymore HKS ones on ebay. I emailed the guy I got my last one off of but have not heard if he has anymore in stock.

Cant decide what will be easier to do the swap in my ST or this GT above. The ST is cherry body wise but I raped it for front strut and rear control arms and spindle. The GT plowed a deer so bent hood, no front bumper or passenger side fender. Will also need a radiator and fan. I will also have to fab a support for the front to support the radiator. Since this will be another track car the fabbing doesnt need to be perfect. So I am not sure what to do as the GT runs fine and the ST is crazy locked up. I popped the clutch when I got it and damn near broke my neck. Anyways will mull over till all my parts come in. However I am leaning on the GT side since it will just be easier overall.

How about 2 beams!! smile.gif Project number 2 to commence this week.

I believe the bpipe from the IS300 will bolt on to the exhaust manifold and I can cut it and fab to work.

So I just read thru everything since my last post and still seems to be some uncertainty about the codes and visually looking at the transmissions for the S54. I still believe that the helical LSD under visual inspection you will not be able to see thru the transmission and will not have a bar. In addition, with no load the passenger side tire will spin backwards when the driver side spins forward. It will act basically like an open diff.

Just curious if we made any headway from a visual inspection perspective.
Thanks
