Well from what I am reading code 54 will cause limp mode (54 is any fault with intercooler system) and if the ecu is not controlling your IC pump a check engine light will occur (code 54) Mine is set up right now with a separate relay triggered off ignition so as soon as I turn my key on I have the intercooler pump running, so the ecu thinks their is no pump hooked up and throws a check engine light. I personally don't think it is in limp mode cause it runs perfect and boosts hard... But I wanted to find out what others did |

Hey all! For those Of you running a air to air front mount intercooler on your 3rd gen 3s how did you prevent the ecu from cutting your timing (limp mode).... Because the ecu realizes the intercooler pump is not running. I have a 3sgte 3rd gen in my car and I dont want a gt4 hood (keep it stealthy) so I put a oversized intercooler rad and thermal wrapped the heat exchanger and wired one of my two fans to be on full time so air is always being pulled through the exchanger, but of course due to heat I want the pump to run with ignition So how do I get around the timing cut? Thanks for your help guys! |

hey all, well put in the new..er regulator the sound is gone but it still running almost as lean, tomorrow i will be rigging up an pressure gauge to measure input fuel pressure, from what i understand it should be in the 40PSI range. the engine still runs pretty smooth and only shows a code 54 for the intercooler circut (which i have looped) for those of you that have a AEM uego what does it read with the engine off but ignition on? thanks for the help and i will update you later on. |

yea i will check the map sensor tomorrow (i do have the full service manual) but found a fuel pressure regulator off a wrecked MR2 so i will pick that guy up and give it a shot, i have a feeling the regulator is whats at fault here. |

Hey all, well i have finished the swap and it runs quite well with only one flaw it is running super lean. I installed a wideband AEM Uego gauge and it is showing about 17.8-18.8 at idle and then off the guage under power. i have verifed the lean condition by pulling the 02 sensor and it was starting to show white. The exhaust is completely built 3 inch turbo back with muffler and resonator. info 3rd gen 3sgte running walbro 255lph pump idles at about 15in-hg of vacuum still has old regular fuel from 8 months ago the fuel pressure regulator has a odd sound like a washing machine filling up with water when the pump is on but the engine is not running, is this normal??? Things i have done to try and solve this -check for restriction in fuel filter (tests fine) -turn on pump to check fuel flow after filter with line off (tests fine) -pull all plugs/change and found no differences between the cylinders -triple check all vacuum lines, and plug and pinch off while engine is running (looks good) -pull fuel pressure regulator to make sure fuel flow hits the end of the rail (shoot out of port) -unplug 02 sensor does nothing (but i understand that the ECU has a backup map in so it really should not matter) things it does -if i unplug the boost sensor (map sensor) (the vacuum line running to it) it engine will run sickly rich and almost stall -if i clamp the fuel return line it also will run richer... possible things it might be but i have no idea.... -fuel pressure regulator?? it seems to run the same and have same fuel ratio even when the vacuum line is unplugged to it -fuel pump, maby i got a weak one??? thanks for any help, i have spent so many hours on this car and am very excited to drive it when its done... |

Hello everyone I have been lurking around this board for well over a year, and now finally decide to post! I would like to first all thank everyone for the amount of amazing information that is on this board, and a big thanks for the write ups on the swaps. A little bit about me if you care... Im up here in Edmonton Alberta Canada, i am a heavy duty mechanic... i ran a Service truck in Fort McMurry in oil sands game for a few year and then now i am back at our home base till the economy pics up again. This is actualy the first car i have ever owned, my last truck was an Amarillo editon F-350 diesel and now i am driving a H2 sut. on to my story I purchased my Celica about 1 year ago, as a project car and somthing to just play around with in the summer, i put in the Tein springs and KYB strut and of course dont forget the GT-4 riser blocks!!! please note the 6GC sticker!!! of course i had to do the 7th gen seat swap which leads me to my latest mod the 3sgte Everything has gone so buttery smooth so far with the swap thanks to your great info and writeups! Which leads me to the questions 1 - i am absoulty stuck on the clutch start switch, i have gone through the st205 body wiring in the service manual, i have gone through the 3sgte service manual... but no luck i can find the IJ1 plug between the tvss and the starter which are the Yellow/black and the Black wire, but i CANNOT find a wiring diagram with the actuall clutch start switch (the BGB wiring diagram on celicatech is down) i have read the write ups so many time but i just cant figure them out!!!! here is a pic of the 3 body harness plugs on the 3sgte harness I appreciate the help in advance and if you cant help i hope you at least enjoyed the pics |
