I have the exact same problem! I can't track down the relay that I believe I damaged by crossing some wires in my rear window switch. My rear windows don't work, with no ground coming to the window switches. (I tried a friends car and his has a ground next to the hot wire in the rear window switches.)
Does the door control (big blue box next to the steering column under the dash, control the rear windows? ANY help with this would be appreciated!

As some of you guys know I am working on a DIY for the quarter windows for the verty.

On the test run to see if the windows works or not, one of the problem that came up was the switch.
I removed the switch and was playing around with the wires because i was trying test the windows. welll what happen was all the wires touched each other. and bam.... windows dont work anymore....

I've check all fuses none are blown. (POWER FUSE AND GAUGE FUSE suppose to be the suspects but they are fine)
I need to check my POWER MAIN RELAY. The picture shows it being in the inside fuse panel, but which one or am even looking at the right one.

On the opposite side of the inside fuse panel there are three black relays? could this be one of them?

THANKS GUYS...

this blows.. it was the 1st time in 2 years i was able to have all the windows down.

Finally found a reference in another post about the rear windows (only) not working, and mentions three black relays in "junction block 1". Where is this located? Thanks"

Passenger side electric window on my 96 convertible stopped working.

I removed the switch because it felt a little funny, and tried to by-pass it with wire. Wire got hot very quickly and NOW the driver side rear window doesn't work. Any ideas on getting the driver side back to working? I checked every fuse in the car, hoping I just blew a fuse!

I found a tiny toggle on the plastic panel next to the clutch. I will try this after the rest of the family wakes up. Thanks

Update. Yes, that certainly worked! Since we don't even lock our doors here in Dolores Colorado I don't know much about alarms. Thanks!

It's normal. Hook up the battery, run into your car and reset your alarm.

How do you reset the alarm? I have the same problem!

New to me 1996 Celica convertible. Battery went dead, and now the alarm goes off every time I open the doors. Any ideas? I have never had an alarm on a car. There is no obvious shut off on the key.

I want a manual before I install the CV axles my "new" celica needs, but I don't want to spend a lot. Will the Chilton's do for this kind of work? Are there cheaper on-line (downloadable) resources and any suggestions if so? Thanks

Rear
R 48071 L 48072

Front
R 48603 L 48609

Also might be worth replacing bump stops, mine completely disintegrated.

Wow! What an easy job. (At least to remove. I need to order new ones tomorrow.) No need for a spring compressor. My bumper stops were fine, but I need new boots. I have yet to find boots without the stops so I guess I get new stops as well.

The struts I pulled out are stamped Toyota so they may be original equipment. I won't be able to drive it for awhile as I decided to put a new top on while I was working on it. Wish me luck with that!

I love this forum already! Thanks
Can you give me the part number for the strut mount. I have studied the diagram but I am not sure which part specifically this refers to. Thanks!

Just purchased a 96 convertible with 138,000 miles and ride from the rear is pretty awful (harsh and loud, car jiggles over bumps) so I am thinking of replacing the struts. I have never done this before. What is involved? Do I need a spring compressor? Do I need additional parts other than the struts (which are amazingly cheap smile.gif Any tutorials out there? Thanks

Which rear window are you talking about, the back window or one of the quarter windows (sides)?

If it's the back window (depending how bad it is) you may be able to fix it, otherwise you can go to most upholstery shops and they can get you a new window and install. Or try a junkyrd, although parts for our cars can be touph to find.

It's the back window. I called a few installers and they want about $500-700 to install it. I am a decent mechanic, but are there some directions out there?

Just purchased a 1996 Convertible in red for a present for my wife. Car has 139K miles. Runs perfectly, five speed, with a replaced timing belt, new battery and is in "decent" shape cosmetically. Does have some paint fade and the clear coat is peeling from the rear "spoiler".

1. The rear window needs replacing. Any recommendations on where to buy for best price and quality?
And I need some directions! Any links out there as I have zero experience with convertibles.

2. The suspension seems very rough and the car tends to "jiggle" a lot, although it is smooth at highways speeds and handles well. Do I need new struts? Or is there a kit to replace the 14 year old (perhaps) bushing parts in the suspension?

3. Paint fade: Any solutions you can recommend? I really don't want to put a lot of money into this car but I would like to keep it, and get it back to close to it's original shape.

4. Any issues with the generation I should be aware of? Thanks!
