Hey guys, I think my Celica is ready for a tune up. Just wanted to know what to check/replace on these cars. BTW I have a 5SFE engine, if that makes any difference. P.S. I wanna try to do the maintenance myself, so if you have any how to's or manual's that would be great. Thanks |

why was it in the shop in the first place? The axle bracket broke and took a piece of the engine with it. So the shop replaced the engine and the axle. And now the transmission is acting up. what's an additive besides the Lucas oil Trans Fix?? to me its either all 75w-90 gear oil or all Royal Purple Synchromesh, not mixed fluids or any sort -not enough gear oil -they put the wrong "mesh" additive (what ever that is), well you shouldn't be mixing stuff in there anyways my question is, how do you bleed the trans?? is it like bleeding a brake/clutch line or are you referring to draining and filling the diff??? DIY a diff drain and fill with 75w-90 gear oil 3qts. Use the search button to find people who asked how and where the trans drain and fill plugs are before making another thread yourself. Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. I don't really know how you go about bleeding a transmission either. |

I got my car back from the shop recently for some repairs and when I did, I can't shift the car into any gear when its completely stopped. I've never had this happen to me before. The shop "bled" the transmission and added Mesh additive to it too, with no luck. I can shift fine if its moving, but have no idea whats wrong with the transmission. Sorry for the noobish description |

there should be a plate with the VIN on it. im just not sure where it is. come to think of it when i did mt 5S-FE rebuild i dont remember seeing that plate. I do know the 1ZZ and 2ZZ have them I've been asking around about this and it seems that there was no VIN printed on the engine during this time. I find that really weird. I'm going to try what hatchy_gt-s said though, so we'll see. look down the throttle body. smell the o2 sensor area and if possible the sensor itself Sorry for the noobish question, but what am I smelling it for? Like, what scent? The vin is on the block right about the oil pan next to the transmission If a shop is installing the motor have them show the compression test readings and if they are a professional shop they should have a NOX/Emissions tester, have them run the car on that. Other things you can check for:(after a couple days of driving) any leaks(oil, rad.,power steering), spark plugs(hot, oily, corrosion, exe.). Make sure you dont run it hard(over 3000rpm) until you have done the 500 mile break in period. ^I'm going to try looking for that VIN. Thankfully, there doesn't appear to be any leaks. For the break in period, I was under the assumption that its better for the engine to bring it up to high rmp's. It helps to seal the seals and such. I'm still trying to learn about cars so if I say something wrong, please correct me. Thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it. |

Hey, So my Celica GT's axle broke and took some of the engine with it. I got a replacement 5S-FE and am having a shop install it. My question's are: 1) Is there a VIN on the engine to make sure the mileage on it is correct. 2) What should I check for when I go pick up the car? |

Well, your good as far as fuel injection goes! If your wanting the vvt your might want to get a BEAMS. If your looking to keep costs down and just using this as a DD right now, then Id just throw in another 5S. As far as other engines....search the stickies for all that info. But your pretty much looking at 3SGTE or the 3SGE. Thanks for the info Spider. I couldn't find much info on the 5S engine, but I've also only looked on wiki. I think I'll just try to find a cheap 5S and get this celica back on the road. Maybe later on turbo it too. Sorry, I got another question. The previous owner recently replaced the belts and did a tune up on the now wrecked engine. If I get another 5S, would I be able to swap out the belts, fluids, etc. to the new 5S engine? |

Hey guys, So recently my celica's axle broke and went through the engine block. So now I need a new engine and axle. I got quoted from a shop to get the 2.2l (around 85k miles) w/axle and installation for $2700. I'm a little hesitant on doing that since my engine only had 94,000 miles before this happened. I was told I can get a engine for around $500 on here, anyone know where I can go about that? I'm thinking of putting in a more modern engine, one with VVT and fuel injection, would that be possible. Also, what other types of engine's can put into my celica? |

UPDATE: I ended up getting it towed to another place called DealerDirect. They haven't looked at the car yet, but while we were taking it off the flat bed, it started leaking from another location. The tow truck guy thinks its the engine oil. I checked that before I left and the dipstick still read full. And it was the passenger side axle that is broken off, but could it have done more damage, specifically to the engine itself? Also, I don't think I'll ever go to that Midas again, they're just crazy. Thanks for all the help. |

UPDATE: So the Midas people say the axle popped off the engine and they need to weld it back with an axle mount. They recommend replacing the engine for around $3500. Does this sound right? I think there trying to screw me over, but I looked underneath the car, and the passenger side axle looks to be completely disconnected from the wheel. |

I was hoping that it just blew a seal on the transmission and just needed to replace the transmission fluid. If the axle broke wouldn't one of the wheels not turn at all? |

Hey, I'm new to this forum and joined a couple days ago. Bad way to start it off but anyway. I just got this '95 Celica GT Hatchback and while I was driving back tonight, there was a loud boom near the passenger side of the engine. I pulled over and to my surprise, its leaking, it just kept pouring out. The leak was coming from near the middle of the car, maybe transmission fluid? Now I can't move the car, the clutch and transmission feel like their working, but the car won't move. The engine starts and idles but if you push it there's this horrible sound as if something is grinding. I pushed into a Midas nearby and left it there until the morning. So any ideas as to what went wrong or what Midas will tell me need repaired? I just want to know what happened to my baby! oh-my-gosh. orlando. do you happen to have like black rims with a chrome lip? it does kinda sound like an axle popped out... No, Its a white nearly bone stock celica with bbs wheels. I was able to turn on the car and move the steering wheel, if the axle broke I wouldn't be able to do that, right? |
