Fixed it up now Ok, So I understand that SS-II bit, but JDM? Sorry if I am new, I want to know as much as possible, and would you say it is a decent first car? Cheers JDM is the japanese domestic market but it's hard to say with you living in New Zealnd cos i don't know what cars you actually got down there and what their factory specs are. best off having a look at the chassis plate behind the engine on the fire wall will have a VIN/Frame No note it down post it up or compare it with others http://www.celica-club.co.uk/wiki/index.ph...s_&_Figures as for the first car bit, in the UK i doubt many people would be able to run one as a first time car due to cost of insurance, although the cars are pretty cheap to buy now i at 27 have to pay £800 sterling a year to insure her plus the 30mpg average, if i was 17 again i'd probably have to pay well over £2000 sterling a year to insure the car. then there is road tax at over £200 sterling a year, again i don't know what running cost would be like in New Zealand. Well, Insurance is suprisingly cheap here for me, Insured under mum's name with me as a secondary driver makes it $9/week which is about 4 pounds a week. Other than that there's rego, about 200 a year, so about 75 pounds. welcome NZ'r post a pic of the engine bay heres my article on the ST202 here and Clint TRDGT4 from the NZPC mag is also on here http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=58172&hl= you should also see if its superstrut, basically take a photo of the front shocks, to see if the shock is straight or has a bend in it. then post it up and we'll have a look. Will post pics when home, am actually away from home currently and grabbed the pics of the listing that I won (as you can see the watermark haa) but I will do all of that when home, Good to see some more kiwis here and thanks for the help . Great pick up for a first car. I did notice the supra in the background... So you got the celi's awesome bigger more powerful bro in the family too. That's what the person I bought this car off has upgraded to . Though, next in line for me is one of those, I just need to make the celica mint, then I will save. Looks like a SS-I no? Being a 93. At these times Japan usually releases it's own car a year before other regions. The production of these cars in Japan started in the Fall of 93. You surely have a ST202 if you have a 3s-GE. New Zealand & Australia only got the ST204 (5s-FE = Zr, Sx-R & Sx) & ST205 (3s-GTE = GT-Four). You have an imported St202 which in my opinion is a SS-I. As mentioned above do you have "Super Strut Suspension"? Should say it on the bottom of the back window and if not you can raise the car a bit and take a gander for yourself and snap a pictures of it to post. You are correct, it is a jappa import, only has 192k's which isn't to bad for a 17 year old car (About 110 miles) on the clock. I certainly do have a ST202 and a 3S-GE like you said, I will take a pic of the suspension hopefully when I am home, but I will also look at all the plates to see if it can tell me haha. |

Just read the whole bloody story. You probbably spent more fixing that car up than the amount of buying a newer mint one haha. But seriously, good job at having one last go and getting it all going smoothly again. And like SwissFerdi said, cool story bro. |

Hey Guys. Recently I purchased my first car, being 15 and from New Zealand I decided a Celica is a good car and for not too much money. I have become a lot more interested in it and doing small mods and I signed up here seeing all the handy tutorials you all have. Now, What can I say, what an awesome forum. Firstly, I know I have a 1993 Toyota Celica, But it is the 6th Gen Shape (Must be December 1993 or something) It is a ST202 iirc. 3S-GE I think I have also seen under the bonnet, oh it is also the 2.0 litre. Here is a pic of the rear - It doesn't say GT or anything. I know it aint a GT4 though ofcourse . If the front helps then - Also interior if the dash helps? I know it needs a few things such as the 'parcel tray' (For the boot?) , I need to install a new stereo system including speakers, and maybe lower slightly in the future, but firstly I want to know what type it is, and also what you all think? Hope General is an ok to post this, if not the mods please move it. Cheers Jack |
