I have the stock wheels right now. yea sorry man if the blinkers arent fart green then its not stock and someone got in there. Trust the 95. I ruined my old civic's tach and fuel gauges that way from trying to put on some glow gauges. stupid 20 dollar gauges costed me another hundred to get a new cluster because the fuel needle snapped completely, and although the tach needle came off and went back on with careful measurement, it just never worked right again. If you dont care the difference and dont feel like buying a new cluster, just keep it in mind when you drive. The needle is just off a tad. DO NOT pull of the needle and try to adjust it in any way yourself! It is VERY hard to do properly without ruining anything (I am by no means mechanically challenged, work as a dental assistant, and my trained hands still managed to fudge half my cluster needles). live with it |

If you cut the stick down, then you have no thread.. I have an aftermarket knob that has 3 screws to hold it to the post. threads make no difference whatsoever to me. As long as that is the case, I dont have anything else to worry about right? I know I sound like a cheapa$$ but ill save a hundred or so bucks this way...haha. |

http://www.6gc.net/howto/make_custom_short_shifter or this http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/performanc.../Short_Shifters you can use the ones from 7th gen celica!! Im pretty sure on this just wait for confirmation from another member. sweet, however why does all that cutting and vice gripping and hole making and tapering need to be done? Can't I just cut the stick down a few inches and put the knob back on? I guess i dont understand how the short shifter affects the linkage or something |

From Edmunds.com: Fuel Data Fuel Fuel Tank Capacity: 15.9 gal. EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway/Combined) Manual: 21 mpg / 27 mpg / 23 mpg Range in Miles: Manual: 333.9 mi. / 429.3 mi. / 365.7 mi. ---------------------------------------------------- that actually matches up to exactly what I get when I drive the car....I had no idea it was 15.9 gallons though. I usually fill up after cruisin through like 14 gallons since the stupid fuel gauge needle jumps around. the light comes on and off, its so annoying. you figure some idiot would have figured out a way to keep a car's fuel needle from jumping around when it gets lower on gas! |

sorry to be a post whore, but after reading "Bad transmission, BAD!" by ComaToes, I got thinking. Most of my gears grind when I shift; I have to kind of feel for each gear to sort of 'open up' for me to shift into gear. I bought synchromesh that i have yet to put in, however I have trouble putting the shifter into all of the gears, including reverse. feels kind of grinding the car needs a clutch though. mechanic said if i fix the clutch it would remedy this. It doesn't make sense to me though, so im just wondering if it may very well need to be rebuilt or if it is just the clutch. and good luck to ComaToes, hopefully i dont share the same fate |

looking to have a short shifter, but ill be dagnabit to spend a hundred bucks for one....I think thats ridiculous for 2 rods and a few nuts. cant I just cut the shifter? is there anything wrong with taking a dremel to it and re-attaching the knob? from experience i know i should ask this kind of thing before i go demolition on my baby |

yea i guess im more pleased with the way the car handles, as well as the look/feel of it than the speed, even with the GT motor instead of the ST. Dont want to Fudge with the timing...too many horror stories and it doesnt sound like it would do much. motor has too many miles to risk KABOOM. I guess Ill decide if i want to look at moving to a faster 7th gen, or work with what I have. something tells me I am too attached to this car to get something else. She may be a little slow but I still love her in the end haha thanks for all the input...this site is the most valuable resource i have for the car! |

Since you asked for opinions I will give mine. I think it is stupid to worry about how fast you car is, at least top end wise. Anything above about 80 mph can get scary, let alone the fact that it is not safe to be driving that fast. To get our cars quicker off the line though, there isn't much you can do besides a turbo or swap. Not that i am worried about how fast it is, I just thoroughly enjoy the fleeting feeling of accelerating quick....something to put me back in my seat and turn the radio down I guess i dont care about where it tops out. Let me also rephrase the point....even normal highway cruising at 60-70mph yields some high rpms and a lot of noise. top speed isnt much of an issue, and yea it is wreckless to be flying around that fast anyways. but climbing to 4k rpm doing 70 seems unnecessary. Also for anyone who has done intake/exhaust/headers, i know gains are minimal, but is there any difference? |

driving home from class and didnt notice myself creeping into 100+mph. Such a smooth car at highspeeds, even with alignment off and bad rear shocks. Accelerating is effortless.....except almost at redline at 110. this car needs a sixth gear badly. Its not a very fast car off the line either (stock), as this is not suprising to anyone here. I want to make this Celica a little faster without spending the time/money on an abusive turbo, as i have neither the time nor the money for a turbo kit (if i did a turbo i would want to do it right...no cheap shizzle). I have thought about some kind of swap, but as ambitious as i may be, i doubt I have the know-how for something that extensive Am I just stuck to intake/exhaust? will either of those even make a noticeable difference in acceleration? I have considered saving up for a 7th Gen GTS; 180 hp, a 6-speed, higher top speed, and slightly better gas mileage...but I am just in love with the way the 6 gen look inside and out. 7th Gen looks like a big step down in swagger and class...haha give me your opinion! |

This should be moved to Off Topic. It's dealing with Toyota as a whole, not the 6gc. fine. What happened to the celica?! wish toyota would have followed Subaru and Mitsubishi in pursuing the GT-4, especially here in America. they could have made a modern day class leader. oh well |

let me just say, what the hell happened to Toyota? and what is this Scion crap their pumping out? since I was little I always saw the Supra/Turbo as a dreamish car (no ferrari killer, but a sweet ride). The 6 gen celica I own is very reminiscent of one - from the cockpit layout to the steering wheel. Everything is soft touch inside the car, and looks expensive (like faux leather or something) Our Celicas pull 0.87 G's on the skidpad on stock steelies (great for FWD), and you can certainly feel it driving. I can only imagine how some other people's celicas corner with suspension goodies. if power was a big issue, the 7th gen bumped that up to 180hp and a 6-speed. dont care for its interior, but handling remained up there, and both cars get great mileage, even by todays standards. I have my foot down ALL the time (6 gen), and I have never gotten worse than 23 mpgs. the 7th gen only improves that number. Quad headlights on a toyota? shaped like a bombshell, and just unique looking on the road all around. fast forward to today....scion tC? are you kidding me? miles of plastic inside, handling sucks compared to even a 6gen (.81 G skidpad, with 18" rims), bland bland bland inside and out (even the new 2011 model), and worst of all, the big 2.4 gets the exact same mpg, hp, torque, and performance numbers as the 1999 1.8 liter. In over 10 years, toyota has grown the engine but kept the same specs...no sense especially with the downsizing going on today. Granted, its a cheaper car than the Celica was, but there is no halo Supra to back it up. tC = too Conservative/toyota Corolla/corolla coupe. yawn. I am thoroughly disappointed with the direction toyota has gone with their compact sports car. decade old technology, handling has taken a steep dive, styling wouldn't even pass at Kia (see forte koup), and no passion/inspiration whatsoever in their cars. before anyone goes apeshizzle over the new FT-86 (http://www.caranddriver.com/news/spied/10q3/2012_2013_toyota_ft-86_subaru_0846_sports_coupe_spy_photos-future_cars), the motor, transmission, suspension, and everything else that helps to propel/steer the car is SUBARU. toyota is basically helping finance and rebadging a subaru... so heres to a great era of Toyota where they knew/cared about the driving experience. we own that piece of history, because all toyota makes now is appliances... haha end rant |

yea i agree the box means everything. I bought a second hand system from a friend, who had a custom box made for his probe hatch. Its a 2 sub box, rectangle shaped, and heavy as fu*k. costed him like roughly $750, although I got it waaaaay cheaper. I had it in an old bmw 3 series and it always sounded muffled, and I felt like it should have been louder. How much of a difference it made when I put the same exact thing in the Celica, which is shaped just like a probe. its almost too much and im running some cheap old subs in it. although I personally wouldn't spend that much to have a custom box, it is absolutely necessary to have one fitted for your car if you want optimal sound. I cannot drive with them on constantly in my daily commute without turning them almost off or ill go deaf and rupture something from the vibrations (unless its a party night haha) |

well im running short in the financing department, so it looks like I'm gonna have to give up buying speakers for now, and im just going to try to mount the 6x9's in the front! time to say goodbye to those nice (but somewhat useless) 8inch housings and get cutting. I think Ill leave the door grille as it is; that would be too much for me to widen but still keep it factory looking. The grille will only cover up around half an inch of speaker on each side, so im not that worried about loosing sound clarity...that is unless it sounds noticeably bad. Will update this within the week, hopefully sooner than later |

SO just started doin some work to the sound system (factory 6 speaker). already have the head unit installed (so easy on this car, makes me cringe to think how easy it is for a robber to....) and looking to replace the speakers. was going to put 6x9's in the rear (Ive had from another car) and make a custom mount found here: http://www.celica-club.co.uk/wiki/index.ph...9_rear_speakers (props to whoever put that up) since this is taking a while to cut and fashion mounts, in the meantime I went to work on cutting the factory 8 inch door speakers and screwing on 6.5's into the cut factory speaker shells, then i noticed one of the 6.5's I have (have had for 3 years) are blown the glue from the cone is coming off. cheap sony **** . Well, it got me thinking, If I have to go out now and buy new 6.5's, why not keep the nice rear angled, custom factory mounts and just put 6.5's in the rear, and then "adjust" the front door speaker shells to fit the 6x9's? this will save me the hassle of making the custom rear mounts anyone have experience/input for this? I cant really think of a reason why not to have 6x9's in the front. (I also plan on throwing my sub in, but thats later when i have more time) or would it be better to still keep 6x9s in the rear? |

I agree with everything badkarma said, I recently sent someone a big huge ..... I knew there had to be a thread where someone did this, but this is good stuff, and Im suprised how fast and how much info is already surfacing in this thread! Makes me wana just strip the car now and blow my paycheck on paint supplies...haha this will be another long term project. Ill start small for now, like a panel or bumper or something. Still have some rust I have to take care of too. A few dents in a few of the panels, do I just pull off the panel and hammer it out as best as I can? and with the plastic bumpers, is there any extra precautions I should take (since its not metal)? |

In regard to everyone here who has taken the door panels off and installed 8" aftermarket speakers. What brand are you using, and what do you think sounds best in your 6th gen? yea lookin forward to hearing this too since Im doing the sound pretty soon. I have read that for the doors, 8inch full range speakers are better than putting 8inch subs...subs need more room for the sound waves to travel, and the door isnt enough space. 8inch speakers are hard to find, so look for either marine speakers (full range, there are a few this size for boats) or for subs in the door: 'free-air' subs. |
