My 96 Vert overheated and the radiator split on top due to pressure I'm guessing. Replaced the radiator and thermostat and still experiencing the overheat symptom.
Took it to my mechanic who told me it needed a new head gasket. I am skeptical due to the lack of appearance of water in the oil (clear not milky) or oil in the coolant.

I suspect the water pump but am uncertain how to check it for failure. Suggestions?

I had an 86 GTS with the 3SGE engine and my son has a 96 Vert with the 5SFE. I want to say that the older one had 135 HP as does the newer one. Can anyone give me an informed description about whether the technology of the late engine is better? If you were going to replace the motor which one would you choose? rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

The 2.2L engine in my GT Vert won't start. I had a shop run a diag and they came up with igniter circuit malfunction #1, I replaced the igniter with a used one from ebay and it didn't make any difference. Has anyone experienced this problem before? What should I do next?

All of a sudden the top on my son's convertible won't go all the way down. The motor appears to be working correctly however the top only goes down about 90%. What could be causing this?

Just put Gen 7 rims on my son's 96 Vert and want to sell or trade the stock 15 inch rims. Looking for $100 plus shipping or pick up in DFW.
No dents or dings. These rims will run true without any vibration if balanced correctly. Only light rim rash on one rim.

The gasket for the water by-pass pipe has failed. Is there any way to change that without removing the water pump?

Coolant LeakI have coolant leaking from either the thermostat housing or the metal tubing (?) that joins the engine block at about the same location. I have tightned all the bolts and the coolant leak has gone from a drip to a massive loss of coolant. This doesn't appear to happen when the engine is warm but rather when the car is sitting in the driveway.

Has anyone encountered this before and what is the solution?

These are the same OEM rims on my son's 96 vert. The rims were manufacturesd by PRIME in the US and were factory rims for the 96 model year. I recently purchased a set of 7th gen rims that are also made by PRIME for the USDM

Everytime I apply the brakes I hear a strange clunking sound from the right rear tire area. Any idea what's making the sound?

I bought a set of rims and one of them was painted black. Is there a way to strip the paint off and not damage the clearcoat?

There is water damage to one of my high beam headlights. It always looks like condensation inside of it. Is there any way to remove and replace a highbeam without removing the bumper cover? The rubber surround on my low beams is loose and I want to reattach it correctly. Can the lowbeam be removed without taking off the front bumper cover?

These are the rims I bought. If you look closely at the picture you can see that the tire size is 15 inch. I am told that the GTS rims are 16 inch and have a smooth lip versus a stepped lip on the 15 inch rims. What's the deal with the center caps? Has anyone ever seen anything like these? I am interested in obtaining the OEM cent caps like in the picture earlier in the thread.

QUOTE (SupraKid @ Jan 18, 2011 - 8:11 PM) *
From online-find a picture, right click it and click copy image location. Then when you post theres an icon of a little picture above where you type, click and paste the image location into that and hit ok.

From your computer-If your trying to get them off your computer then make a photobucket.com account and post the IMG tags directly into your post

That's wierd. I just read your thread this morning. The rims look identical to yours and are 15 inch.

At the risk of sounding like a total nube, how do you attache a picture?

I recently purchased a set of 7th gen rims for $100. They are 15 inch rims and don't have the JWL logo on them. What can you tell me about them? Are these Toyota factory rims or some knockoffs?

The third generation celica with the 22R enginge was mounted longitudaly. Would a swap be possible with a JDM 3SGE motor? How much trouble would it be to mount it. I assume the existing motor mounts would not line up. what about the transmission? Would the original tranny work?

Have either of you encountered any complications when replacing the clutch?

Someone told me that if you had to replace the clutch in this car you would have to pull the motor out. The Toyota dealer said this was a good car to get and get rid of. What gives?
