are you sure you have the axle in all the way? Yes Smaay, I believe that they are, my buddy whom is a certified toyota mehcanic for 20yrs, is the one who performed the operation, twice he had the axles out to replace the bearings, and twice they leak, and still have vibration.....Is it safe to say, that it could be what TerBeau is talking about with his dilema, could also be mine???, it sure sounds like it. |

im having the same exact issue. go under your car shake your axle up and down. it move like that because your bearing is shot. in my case its the driver side. i installed new seals because mine was leaking badly also. but even though new seals were installed it continued to leak because the bearing inside wobled the axle while driving wearing the new seal and no longer sealing agin. so i got another trans and bulding this one to install this one in place of the old one. Thanx TerBeau! finally, someone expiriencing the same problem with some input.....I agree, changed out the seals and installed new axles on both sides, and still leaking, and still vibrating, PLEASE! keep me posted on the tranny swap you are doing, if it works for you, then I will be deff. purchasing a good used Tranny, You are still going with the 5sfe Tranny correct? I did not know the bearing(s) could go caput like that, any other info about this problem?? |

Correct, I am speaking of the axles, ( thought input shafts were another term for them ) my bad,...So yeah, Mehcanic explained to me He believes it's the Tranny, inside the Diff. He said I'm getting the vibration from the axles because there is play inside the diff. Where the axles are inserted, and I'n turn because there's play, the axles vibrate, which then rub my seals, then my seals leak, He explained I will keep going through seals everytime unless I purchase a good used Tranny, perhaps if lucky enough, one with stock axles too....Has anyone heard of this or experienced it after doing the ST205 3sgte swap, and using the S54 Tranny off the 5sfe......thanx for any input... |

Hey fellas, just had my new input shafts installed, and new seals as well, couple days of driving, and one seal is leaking bad! Like 6 inch puddle of gear oil I'n about 30secones bad!, This is the second time I have replaced the seals, and still leaks, and I just had new Input Shafts installed as well, other ones were make thud sounds on lefts.......I am using the 5s tranny ( fwd ) with the st205 engine, have 285,000 KMs on the original GT tranny, a stage one clutch installed, and syncrohs feel really nice as well, any ideas why my seals keep blowing out?? I was told these trannys mate well with the st205, as long as your not tearing up the streets 24/7.... I'm thinkin something could be bent on my tranny, I think, or is there a tougher seal out there I can install???? Thanx fellas! PS. The Input Shafts are the stock ones for the 5s Tranny of course, and the seals too |

Hey guys, so I've done my 3rd gen 3sgte swap and kept the 5sfe front wheel drive tranny, I believe it's the s54 transmission I think??? Anyway, when taking lefts, I am noticing a thump thump thump sound coming out of my front driverside quarter....I noticed it only does it when powering into/through a left turn????? Speed is also a factor, if pulling away from a stop sign, the thump sound is slow, because your just starting out I'n motion, if going down the highway at 160kmh, it sounds like an angry woodpecker! When going into lefts, I have pulled/pushed on components trying to find something suspect, but everything seems snug and tight....Mind you, I actually havn't jacked up the car, and tried moving the wheels back n fourth, to see if it's a balljoint, Any other ideas of what this could be fellas? Thanx big time Josh |

So far so good, I like what I'm hearing guys, the input shafts do seem to be I'n good shape, the higher mileage is starting to scare me though, but I guess steel is steel, and they would have snapped under load by now, if they wernt good enough.... Good to know... |

Fellas, When my swap was done, used 5s tranny with the input shafts as well, they currently have 278,000 KMs on them, and I'm getting a little worried throwing 280-300hp at them.....does anyone have any suggestions as to beefier axles I could swap into the 5s Tranny, it is full front wheel drive, if nothing can be swapped I'n, would it be a good idea to buy new stock axles for this Tranny??? Can't find a stage 1 or 2 axle anywhere for the 5s Tranny!!! Your input is vital thank you.....Josh 6GC RULES!!!!! |

One way you can check if its your alternator, is when you get your battery back charged, hook it up, start the car, then detach your negative cable on your battery....if your car still runs, its your battery thats shot, if it dies....your alternator is shot.... ( this method is not usually reconmended ) however, i have used it many of times, throughout the life of my vehicles Celica GT included, and never had an issue |

So, i went ahead and did the mod at the ECU, and so far everything is good, started the car and let it run for 15-20min, got it real warm and no engine light came on!! my code 54 has been deleted i believe, everything good, no ECU melt down ( Thank God ) works!!! |

Hmmmmmmmm, the plugs i bought were a BKR6EP ( NGK Laser Platinum )....I know the 6 is the heat rateing, but why is there a P where you had an S, Smaay? I wonder if i should still go .026 on these ones as well, hopefully its the right plug, if not, i will try your # Smaay... |

Fellas, last April, Tweak did my harness for the 3s swap....he tried to mod the code 54, considering my swap did not come with the intercooler pump or relay for it. with that said when i hooked the loom up, it still throws a code 54...........so the mod must not have worked that he tried, I was attempting a mod that is not done at the intercooler pump, but at EA1 clip, but when i detached my EA1 clip ( 3s side ) from the car side ( 5s side ).....all the pinouts for this mod i am doing have been removed????? from the back of the Ea1 3s side, and of course wires gone............ Question to you is: Ive looked at the wiring schematics, and if you were to do the mod at the ECU with pinouts: 22C, 19C, 16C, 21C ( same pinouts at EA1 ), as well as your resistors and relay to make a full circuit......it looks like this will work, of course, tight quarters mounting the relay under the dash, and soldering..... Does anyone have any objection to what i am doing....the dude that told me this did the same to his and worked perfectly, im just doing it near the ECU. |

well, the only plug i could get/find/cross reference at the local parts store, was a NGK bocsh lazer platnum, the coldest plug i could get was a heat rateing of 6......the guy didnt even know what i was talking about, cause north america never saw our motors, it wasnt listed in any books, in fact, it wasnt until i was looking with him, that i saw a 95 MR-2 3sgte to cross reference with....thats how i got this plug, |

cool guys, went down the street, actually, went down a backroad highway, and i couldnt really open it up to much, only because of the no insurance thing, the fine is $560.00 for not having insurance, and they tow your ride as well, not to mention, if i went by a cop, definetly would be an excessive as well, but i did take it all the way up in second, was around 6200rpm and @ 16psi, didnt want to push much more, only because the rpms were rocketing very quickly...inbetween looking at boost rateing and rpm guage, i didnt want to blow a shift! so, i tried this 4 times on a stretch of road, and my #s were consistent, so far looking good!! no hesitation, or exhaust popping! very smooth and powerful! i know im right on that fine line though, when i reached about 4800rpm i was at 16psi, it just passed 16 but not quite 17 @ 6200rpm, this tells me, it seems to be holding now.....where as before, i would be at 18psi @ 5500rpm and going higher, would have to let off so i didnt hit fuel cut. the exhaust sounds awesome @ 6200rpm with that silencer in there...very deep, angry tone! it feels like i gained power by adding some restriction... it was never this smooth before, i like it!!! just curious fellas, what is 16-17psi in bar form, everyone rates they'r boost in bar form.....this is something i never took the time to understand, please enlighten me, ( sorry if this is a stupid Q. ) i honestly don know, thanx-a-lot! will have to test it in third gear on a load next time.....hope all is cured, all this from adding a simple silencer, craziness |

By the way, my speedo cable rpm gauge all worked with the same clips that came with my 3s motor....that's not the hard part, the hard part with the 3sgte was the handful of wires ( EMS ) that need to be redirected to work with your car side wiring...I personally was not up to the task, nor had the patience for schematics, so I just paid Tweak to do it, yours may be simpler, only because no turbo complication with wiring |

If your question about 5s parts and 3s parts gelin, hasn't been answered yet, which it probably has cause of the useful info on this site, all S series 4 cylinder motors and trannys can be mated with eachother.....5sfe/3sge/3sgte, if you had an S series I'n your car before you drop your motor I'n, your factory mounts will accommodate it, either that, or if you own the GT model Celica....I believe you have the GT-S, that will work. I used my 5s tranny with my 3sgte engine, works fantastic!! And my tranny has 277,000 KMs on it, the only thing I did was give the inside a solvent bath, and put a stage 1 clutch, handles the power great.. Good luck with your swap....you will notice good solid power gains with the 3sge, over the 5s |

Thank-you everyone, for all of your ideas, I believe Smaay is right, our ST205 engines are prone to boost creep,I was trying to figure out what would be the best to go about it, and didn't want to do any fabricating, or downsize my DP, basically put out money I didn't half too....then it dawned on me, I have a tuned muffler, which I took the silencer out of, and have never ran it on the car I'n the first place, my theory behind this is, this will add some restriction to my fulll 3" system, and make my wastegate vent properly.....i was scared how it would sound with the silencer in, but when i turned key and started her up, i actually like it better then open cannon, it sounds deeper and a throatier pitch, my Blitzz DD BOV is more of a high pitched whistle, and believe it or not, but when you rev it the RPMs raise quicker then before.......want to take it for a rip to see if my wastegate can keep up now, and if my boost has leveled off to a power making stable level. Insurance is off of it right now, and for another 4 months ( Damn Canadian Winters! ) but the roads are dry right now, if nice tomorrow will go down the street n back, see if there is a difference, am very excited, if this works, Smaay, you da man, then Rav Race, I will have to buy a boost controller to up the boost, depending how much I've come down, u have an APEXI right'? I don't know if I would get electronic, little to much right now, I know they fine tune better then the Manuel ones, but a Manuel will have to suffice, if, the silencer idea works.... |

I have a full 3" exhaust, 3" XS Power DP, and a custom Ram Air Intake System with K&N cone filter in the mouth of the bodykit where fresh air hits it straight on, and im at a place where im trying to bring my boost down! with the help and generosity of others on this site, ( 6GC ) just to give you an idea, I have to let off at around 5700rpms cause I will, not might......hit fuel cut.. |

Thanx you guys, Rav, Iridium Smaay, IK24 it is....... Def. going with the Ik24, I think you can vouch Smaay, regarding my other post about high boost....as well I have popping out my exhaust around 5500rpms, am running NGK V-Power right now, with about 6000kms on them total......People say spark plugs tell a story about your engine, I pulled one out, and its black ( sutie ) around the bottom ring, and very white up top, I def. have a hot burn! and believe I am leaning out.......hence why I am trying to lower my boost, but this should help, to run a much colder plug, and Iridiums at that. Will try this # for the plugs at my local parts dealer.... |

" to start with peoples ideas on how to beat this problem....there has to be a way |
