If anybody in the states if thinking about doing an engine swap to a UK celica engine and are concerned about emissions, here are the results. My 86K mile 1994 6th Gen 173BHP Celica GT just had it's yearly health check (MOT) @ Fast Idle 2824rpm CO 0.02% (Max 0.3%) HC 5ppm (Max 200ppm) Lambda 1.00 (range 0.97 - 1.03) @ Natural Idle 850rpm CO 0.2% (max 0.5%) Needless to say it passed ....it's a Celica. I know this is about the 7th Gen celica but they would'nt be so reliable if it wasn't for their babies. It was about a 24hr race in Austrailia. Crelica... Unstoppable Celicas First And Second In Class At Bathurst 25/11/2003: Two near-standard Toyota Celicas have finished first and second in their class in the grueling Bathurst 24 Hour race last weekend. The 1.8-litre Celicas beat cars with engines as much as three times larger, due to superior handling, braking and reliability. The winning Celica took out Class E by more than nine laps. Both road-registered Celicas were driven to Bathurst and then back to Sydney after the race on Monday, none the worse for wear. In 24 hours of racing at maximum revs, the Celicas’ twin-cam engines used only 250ml (a quarter of a litre) of oil each. The Celicas used the same brake pads throughout the race and needed just two replacement front tyres each to complete the round the clock marathon. Car owner Colin Osborne, who shared the winning Celica SX with John Roecken and Trevor Keene, said the cars required little more than refueling during the race while their rivals replaced components regularly. The class-winning Celica completed a total of 2708.87km – the distance between Melbourne and the Cape York Peninsula – in the course of a single day. It completed 436 laps of the daunting Mount Panorama circuit at an average speed of 112.62km/h. Apart from mandatory safety equipment, the Celicas only differ from those on the showroom floor in having minor suspension and exhaust modifications. They also use racing brake pads. “The cars are close to standard and we basically didn’t touch them during the race,” said Mr Osborne, who won last year’s Australian Production Car Championship outright driving the same Toyota Celica SX. “The Celica was one of the smallest capacity cars in the race so we lost a bit of ground to the big V8s going up the hill, but we were blowing the other cars away in the twisty stuff across the top of the mountain. “It’s just amazing to use only a quarter of a litre of oil in such a demanding race and we finished without a scratch, so the car is basically ready to do another 24 hours.” Osborne Motorsport is an amateur team, using only volunteer helpers to prepare the Celicas and tend them at race meetings. |

Speeds for my standard (apart from the Magic Tree!!) 94 UK GT. 3rd gear 100mph 4th gear 120mph 5th gear 145mph It's got 85k (ish) on the clock and runs like a dream. If anybody would like proof of this let me know and I'll go up the road with the camcorder and get back to you. To find out how fast your car goes, choose a nice quite road with good visibilty and stamp on the loud pedal, it's a Celica, the cunning Japs put a rev limiter to let you know when your going fast enough Crelica |

IMHO I'd think it may be a little over priced, I bought my 94 GT from a garage nearly 2 years ago, it's a UK and had 57K miles with a full Toyota history for 6k. It was (and is) completely standard and the only thing that went against it at the time were the tyres were worse than useless. Have a look on the autotrader website at dealers and remember a set of new 17"s are 600 squid and a reasonable cd head unit it 150 squid, btw stock celica speakers are quite good. I've seen a few GT4's for 6.5k on the trader, fresh imports, the GT should be cheaper now. www.parkers.co.uk give a price guide, paste this link to your browser but oly accounts for a standard vehicle... http://www.parkers.co.uk/pricing/used_car/...=M%20&pay=false BJA |

Think I'm the same as BenMMellor, UK GT 174BHP I think it's pretty OK on power 'cos it gives BMW 325's and Integra Type R's a hard time, when the BMW was stock (been uprated since) you couldnt seperate them up to 120mph at which point I changed from 4th to 5th and it was all over me like a rash!! Unfortunately on top end I had a report of the Integra doing 155mph near my house (no reason to doubt it) which I don't think mine will do, seems to top out at 145. I feel proud to live at one end of the best roads in the UK (in my opinion of course) where you can do a 17 mile run between 2 towns in 11 minutes!!! such a good feeling. BJA |

1bwilson I've got one on my GT, not sure if US is the same as UK but it's a tubular construction....tubes aren't very strong if you try and bend them perpendicular to their length, but they are very strong in compression and even more so in tension, the latter two being the role as a strut brace. I think you'd be suprised how strong they are, Toyota, cunning feinds that they are will have fitted that design with weight as a consideration also. Just thought I'd point that one out, out of interest was the new one you fitted heavier then the Toyota item?? Regards BJA |

Thanks people, I'll have a look at that celicaclub site... Like the sound of the Sebring with resonator removed....I assume thats the centre box?? Who ever asked for photo's....they are there now. I can get a Mongoose in the UK for 339 Pounds and I'd assumed they'd be tuned to get the best performance from the car rather than a 'made-up' system which might be a bit of guess work. Any thoughts on whether you can remove the CAT without causing problems?? Thanks BJA |

Could anybody give me advice on an exhaust for my ST202 please, just fancying an upgrade, nothing wrong with the original and not likely to be seeing as kind Mr Toyota fit them with stainless systems. I'm after some noise and performance and any suggestions brand and/or where to buy them would be good, not a problem ordering from the US, probably be cheaper than 'rip-off britain'!!! ....and if anybody has one for sale please post. Car is a 173BHP '94 ST202 GT model. Ta Muchly BJA |
