1995 Celica BEAMS Red TOP manual convertible for sale 1995 Celica GT 5 speed manual convertible 176000 miles overall- 46000 miles on engine and transmission. ENGINE and TRANSMISSION All parts that were used are genuine Toyota parts (except custom exhaust system). All mechanical work performed at Tonkin Gran Turismo in Portland, Oregon 1998 JDM BEAMS 3rd generation Red Top engine, professionally installed in 2012, with approx 36000 miles on it. Before installation new timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs were installed and all gasket and seals checked for leaks and replaced were necessary. From the moment the BEAMS engine was installed, it has run flawlessly and been driven approx 10,000 miles. 1998 JDM s54 transmission, with LSD (Limiter Slip Differential), was professionally installed in 2012 with approx 36000 miles on it. Before installation new clutch was installed and, to lower RPMs at highway speeds and increase gas mileage, 5th gear was replaced with a new, higher ratio, fifth gear used in the s51 (Toyota Camry) transmission. At 60mph the car gets a consistent 35-36 mpg and at 65mph it gets a consistent 32-33 mpg. Ceramic coated stock BEAMS header was installed to reduce heat and for appearances. New custom stainless exhaust installed (single pipe with Y connection at the rear for dual exhaust). I have the original, single exhaust, muffler. Four new OEM shocks installed in 2013. New front break pads, rotors, and new calipers replaced in 2014. EXTERIOR(red) All Parts that were used are genuine Toyota parts. Gt4 hood and front bumper, imported from Japan, installed and painted by professional Body Shop. Stock 7th generation 16” Toyota wheels bought new in 2011. Kumo 205x 55x 16 tires have about 10000 miles on them and are in very good shape. Car was originally red and had been re-painted red prior to me owning it. The paint is in good condition with a few small paint chips and a few small surface scratches. There are no dents and the body is rust free. The car is accident free. The top is in excellent condition and was replaced in 2010 by the Toyota dealer. The automatic top functions perfectly. The car also has the rare Tourneau cover for when the top is down. INTERIOR(black leather) Pros: Dash board, steering wheel, instrument cluster, rugs, floor mats, front passenger seat, back seats all in great shape. It has stock stereo with single in-dash CD player and in-dash tape player. The automatic antenna works fine. New windshield installed in 2012. Both side mirrors work fine. All rubber seals are in good shape. Windows work fine (new regulator installed in left back window in 2011). Cons: Driver seat bottom is split and needs attention. When I had the bolster redone the upholstery shop said, the cost to fix the split would be about $150-$200. As I said, the passenger seat is in good condition with no rips or splits. The door cards have some very minor “ ripples” in them but no scuffs, splits or tears. Sun visors not ripped or torn but they are tired. The car is mechanically a 10 out of 10, the exterior is an 8 out of 10 and the interior is a 6 out of ten. As all of you know, I have way more money invested in this car than I can sell it for. Let's start with $7900 or best offer. I have many pictures that I can email to you if interested. My email is peter@thegiorgios.com or tel# 5084324645. The car is located in Massachusetts. Shoot me an email or phone call if interested. Thanks, Peter |

Just turned 70 years old(I might be the oldest member of this forum) and I'm downsizing to a condo without a garage for my "baby", so I'm thinking about selling my 1995 red convertible. It has a 1998 BEAMS engine installed by a professional mechanic 2 1/2 years ago. It also has a GT4 hood and bumper installed by Manny (from this forum). It has an LSD s54 transmission with the 5th gear swapped from an s51 trans, so it runs about 2800 rpm at 60 mph making it a little smoother and it gets, at 60mph, a consistent 35-36 mph. From the moment the BEAMS engine was installed, it has run flawlessly and I've driven it about 6000 miles. Before installation the timing belt, the spark plugs and water pump were changed. It has a custom exhaust with a split at the rear axle and dual pipes coming out the back. It has a ceramic coated header and I run it without the heat shield (I like the look and between the ceramic and the GT4 hood vent heat not a problem). Everything in the car works perfectly (including the power antenna). The body has no dents or rust but does have some paint chips. The car was repainted before I bought it 7 years ago. I had shocks and brakes put on it about 3000 miles ago. It has 16 inch gen7 wheels with some very minor curb rash and the tires have about 6000 miles on them. The top was slashed 3 years ago and I had a brand new top installed by Toyota. The interior is in good condition but the driver's seat has a split on the bottom (I've had the left bolster redone). As all of you know, I have way more money invested in the car then I could sell it for. I'll be reasonable on the price but, because I don't have to sell it, I won't give it away. Anyone interested can pm me or email me (peter@thegiorgios.com) and I'll be glad to answer any questions and send pictures. Thanks, Peter |

Took my BEAMS vert on a 200 mile highway trip yesterday. My BEAMS has the 5th gear from a s51 trans installed into the S54 trans. Drove entire trip at the speed limit and it consisted of 10% 70 mph, 60% 65mph, and 30% 60mph. Result 36.4 mpg. |

Has anyone used a Cosmo Racing short shifter? How do you like it? Was it easy to install? Is there anything available that's any better? Thanks, Peter |

I have a 95 vert with 170k miles and have never experienced any vibration....top up or down. I recently experienced a bizarre situation with my Celica convertible and I would like to hear comments and experiences from other convertible owners. I have a ’99 Celica convertible that I only drive in summer and it is garaged the rest of the year: It has 57K miles, with brand new tires that were recently spin balanced. I live in suburbia and most of my driving is local, with occasional highway speeds of 65 MPH at most. If it isn’t raining, the top is always down, so I rarely drive with the top up. I recently drove 200 miles on a trip into the rural countryside. Due to a thunderstorm my car was all wet so I had to drive back with the top up, as the weather was unsettled. The rain had stopped, it was merely cloudy and there was no wind. While driving on an interstate highway at speeds of 75-80 MPH I noticed an unusual vibration in the steering wheel and throughout the entire car. It seemed worse on a downgrade and somewhat better when turning or on level ground. This was very disturbing, as considering the excellent condition of the car and having practically new tires, there was nothing to account for it. The vibration condition continued for 50 miles, during which the sky cleared and the top became dry. I stopped at a rest area and put the top down. I continued my trip, purposely driving at the same relatively high speed – and the vibration disappeared entirely. With the top down, there was NO further vibration whatsoever! There is only one conclusion I can draw: The convertible top on a ’99 Celica plays havoc with the aerodynamics of the car when driven at higher speeds. My previous convertible, a ’89 Celica didn’t do this – but that car had a much narrower track width and a smaller convertible top. Comments? Has anyone else noticed this? |

The car had been repainted some time before I bought it 9 years ago. Manny(pressure2) did the gt4 front conversion and repainted the front 1 year ago. It does stay in the garage most of the time so that helps keep it pretty nice. Are there before pictures or has she always been so beautiful? |

Really enjoying my BEAMS. Everything else is stock except for GT4 front end, exhaust, wheels, and a fifth gear from an s51 transmission. This gives me 34mpg at 60mph, and reduces the rpm (at 60mph) by 300rpm. Put about 4000k miles on it and couldn't be happier with the performance. It really comes alive at 3800rpm. The swap is expensive (I had a professional mechanic do the swap) but I'm glad I chose the BEAMS. Manny did the front end body and paint work. |

I was also thinking about selling my celica vert. I looked around at other cars, but decided to spend the money, and swap in a red top beams engine. I couldn't be happier with the result. It's a great car, and if the beams engine is as reliable as the 5s, the swap will have been well worth it. |

have a "creaking" noise coming from strut when I turn the wheels going slowly. Anyone else had a similar problem? Just had the struts replaced, but someone said it could be the bearing at top of strut, which was not replaced. The car has 170k miles on it. Thanks, Peter |

Finally have my Beams Convertible. It's a 95 with a 1998 Beams engine. It has a 5 speed LSD tranny with a 5th gear from a Camry s 51 trans which dropped the RPM's 400 at 65 mph. It's a blast to drive especially in 3rd gear above 3500 rpm. Couldn't upload pictures....check them on my profile. |
