Hey! Finished mine... I can see what you mean by the camera only able to see UV as blue... anywayz - the glow is more purple UV rather than blue.

Here's my morning/evening shots

I took what you said and the plastic cover would have reflected the UV, so I mounted 3mm UV LED's into an angle bezel and installed it facing the guages.

Thanks 946thGenGT - I wired them to the bulb connectors at the back like you said.

I had a question... how did you wire the led's?? I'm wondering if I should wire them to the cables going into the dash or just solder into the bulb holders.

BTW: Which is the positive connection and which is the negative?? I traced the bulb circuits back to the socket. The 3 main dash bulbs go into 1x into the centre socket and 1x into the right socket.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hey that looks awesome! Will definately love to see the night pics when you u/ld them. I also recently changed the interior bulbs to blue, but its come out exactly as you said "blurry and dull"...

I was planning to feed 2 led bulbs through the top 2 holes you can see in your second pic and point them towards the guages. Will post pics when I get around to doing it - hopefully this weekend.

I agree with Ricky. If your HU is not decsent (ie. putting out atleast 50w per channel) then spending money on good speakers/woofers will not show you the results you want for the money spent.

I know people have different opinions when it comes to naming brands. From what I've come across in the NZ market: JVC, Kenwood and Philip HU's are super, but be willing to spend atleast $350-400 for a decent set that should get you basic CD player w/50x4ch output.

I also know sometimes having a hybrid setup is not everyones taste but again, speakers - go with Pioneer. Their Mid range and 6x9's are rock solid for providing major thump for Hip Hop trax with very little to near no distortion at high volumes.

Subs: DO NOT touch Sony. Utter worthless POS IMO. For major big bass kicks get either a Kenwood or Fusion. If you like the really low freq. and the droning BMMMMMMMmmmmm as you drive by....I'd start by looking @ 12". If you can, try pricing a box for it from http://www.trademe.co.nz to make things more affordable. There are good enclosures that ppl have already made.

Also check out http://www.drivingsound.co.nz for retail prices to give you a heads up on what the car-audio $$$ scene is like at the moment. They're a good benchmark for price comparison to show you if you're getting a bargain from elsewhere in NZ.

Anyway - hope this helps. I'm intending on juicing up my system next year, so its awesome to see a fellow 6GC on the track ahead of me. Hope it works out well. Send PICS of the progress if you can biggrin.gif

Thought this was funny...

I called the local auto-parts store and they said H4 60/50W bulbs. I called a different branch of the same store and they said H4 60/55W.

Then I called a Toyota specific parts dealer and they said they didn't have the bulb type specs, but the wattage needs to be 51W....

I should never have asked confused.gif wink.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif frown.gif

Thanks for the info on the type. RE: the wattage, I was thinking 80w was a bit high too...

Although I've never had to play around with lights, what would happen if I....say... put the 80w in and the actual specs are 55w per say?

I'm looking at getting super white headlight bulb from an auction but the guy has the following items:

Available:
H4, 9005, 9006, 9007

(also have H1, H3, H7 but the packaging are different from the photo)

9007 - 65/55W
9006 - 80W
9005 - 100W
H4 - 100/90W
H7 - 55W
H1 - 55W
H3 - 55W

Which one does our cars use?? I opened mine and was hoping to see a label on the bulb telling me any useful info but there was nothing on it.

Please help? Thanks!

I'm in New Zealand and there is literally NO 6gc support around here. When I first came to this site I had nothing but praise for it and I still have nothing but praise. The strongest point about this website is that it creates community. Every community has its bad eggs - comes with having a population base. But I respect Coomers decision is strengthening the rules etc.

On another perspective, as adults we know better than to let worthless comments affect us IMO. But we should also know how best to deal with it (Ban/delete/block) - although would that pose as a logistic nightmare if trying to moderate accounts/dynamic IP blocks ?? - sorry.. think out loud tongue.gif

I so agree!!!! My Nissan sounded crap until someone told me what a dumb-@ss I was... then I said... "Yeh sweet... I'll put it in da boot" - and then it got nic'd rolleyes.gif

BTW blkGT : I read your post bro... sorry to hear what happened. Personally I would make the clown eat the amp then make him buy you a new one.... then hand him over to the cops.

Can someone who's mounted an amp in their parcel-shelf or whatever you want to call it give some feedback on sound quality?

Shhhhhh.... you have to reply to the specifics. I've already said heat is not good for it!

Sorry dude... I was speaking from experience as I had mounted an AMP to the parcel-shelf of my last car (Nissan Sentra). No impact whatsoever to the sound quality because regardless where to put the amp - its output would remain the same. If you meaning sound escaping from the bootspace due to the mounting then again - depends on how big a hole you're making to mount it. I would say usually there is no difference unless you have the hearing of a hawk to distinguish a drop in dB.

On the plus - if you're simply placing the amp on the shelf, it would actually add weight to the damn thing so no more "thud" noises when you go over a road bump tongue.gif

yea if you want to attract thieves

LOL biggrin.gif

Putting it close to glass doesn't affect the operation but I would personally not consider it practical.

First point has already been covered by blkGT. The second is the hot summer sun. Glass wont keep the heat, but it will certainly let the heat through. Best to keep the amp in a nice dark cool place smile.gif

I agree with everyone so far in here. Get the rims and springs. That should make your "already sexy 6g celi" even sexier. Then later on shop around and take your time for the kit. There's not much around Celica kit wise (unless you have the $$$$) so its best to window shop until you see something you know will match your car/rims.

The one thing about putting springs and lowering before putting kits on though - you have to make sure your skirts or front bumper isn't too low. Otherwise you run into scratching the skirts or cracking the bumber lips. But usually all depends on how much of a low-rider you want and how flat the surface of the roads/driveways are in your locale.

I like things somewhere in between. Not stock but not hard out either like Veilside etc. My car already has the sideskirts... I just need the front lips and rear lip to finish it off!

Help?

Thanks guys.

The top scoop part is. Has side screws that you can pop out and decline or recline. I can't see it making much difference though unless you're competing for land speed records biggrin.gif I think the degree that it moves is only a fraction up or down.

My G/f scratched the rims of my car on the second day I had the magz but the tyre shop I bought the package from fix'd it for me for $20.00

They called it a "machine lip" - you have to be careful of some places though. There's an outfit here that specialize in mags and they quoted me $265 to fix the one mag. Thats 'cause they were going to repaint. Apparently thats the most expensive part (the paint) if its something like mine ie. gun metal chrome.
