and before you finish buttoning up your radio fix your splices. a proper splice is not twisting wires together and using tape! atleast use some crimp-on butt connectors or solder and heat shrink....just so you dont reinstall it and a wire comes appart.... alright thanks for the advice ! |

When you say you spliced the harness onto the loom did you have to solder or was it just connector blocks? An aftermarket audio harness should use your original plugs and adapt them to the standard ISO connection. If you had to cut and splice it may be you did it wrong. I'm a professional audio fitter and I see cut & splice everyday that people have done wrong because a connection is dodgy or the splice to the wrong wire uhmm there wasn't any soldering involved , and no connector blocks , just electrical tape . i dont really know what im talking about but ill post up some pics the head unit has the original plug . thanks for the reply ! |

Does it turn on and no audio, or just doesn't turn on at all? I don't see how an factory amp would disable the unit from turning on. Unless you wired it wrong... Get a multi-meter and check your power wires, and work out from there. From what I'm reading online, if you have the factory amp, your power will be going through there first via the blue connector. Those need to be moved to the new head unit...appears there isn't alot of slack, so you may want to get the harness extension, or extend them yourself. Start with powering the unit first, then wire the speakers one by one. yea that was my dad was talking about bc the head unit doesnt even turn on , im pretty sure we didnt wire it wrong bc he's been doing this for a long time but theres a chance , i keep hearing that you dont need the stock amp and the head unit can power it , but yea im gonna look into the whole powering part first , im prbly gonna get it looked at soon , thanks for the reply ! |

Hey What's Up ! So I have this problem with my 1994 celica Gt , and i need help installing a crappy sony xplod head unit . my stock head unit was broken from the previous owner (the volume dial thing) and i dont have any music . so pretty much this is what happened me and my friend went and bought a wiring harness from walmart , he helped me splice the wire with the aftermarket head unit , and hooked up everything . then we put everything back together and turned the car on . NOTHING HAPPENED . so we checked all the fuses and NOTHING HAPPENED . we removed the battery . we tried everything and NOTHING HAPPENED . Just yesterday my brother was looking at my car and right on the passenger window, on a little sticker that i never paid attention too said "if stereo is removed , it will not work" so i have freaking out and decided too look into it . so after about a year with out a stereo , i started to wonder why the heck my stereo didnt work , waiting for it to magically turn on while driving. i did some research (i read the how-to on 6gc also) and found The Install Doctor . i read it , removed everything , unhooked the two plugs from under the stock amp , this is where i start to think . because i have a wiring harness that is connected only to the aftermarket unit to the cars plug . my wiring harness did not have any connections to the plugs that were previously connected to the stock amp , i started becoming very irritated because it was 2 in the morning and i built up the courage to make it work . it was about 90 something degrees in my garage and i closed my doors because there were tons of mosquitoes and i was sweating like crazy . heres the link to the install doctor http://www.installdr.com/installdocs/toyota/PDF/869009.asp this is what confused me "If you did have an amplifier, disconnecting the white connectors from the blue connector below the amplifier converted your vehicle back to the same wiring as the standard radios wiring." do you need the amp ? im a noob at the whole wiring and stereo stuff so please HELP MEEEE !!!! i dont know if i have the right wiring harness(this prbly sounds stupid but IDK) . ): PLEASE HELP i havent had real music come from my speaker in A YEAR ! this is prbly and easy fix and im gonna feel stupid but PLEASE HELP ! ahh what do you do with the stock amp ? i hate taking my car apart for no reason at all ! if any one can help please help me ! ill post pics up soon . ------------------------------------------------------------ Much appreciated , vince |
