I am wondering... I know pain and headaches are fuel filters can be when it comes time to change them out so i figured id change mine now that the 5s is out of the car to avoid headaches in the future, But on that same note i am thinking about the long run and i want to convert to this inline filter... Aeromotive In-Line Filter My fuel system is stock... I dont have any mods that demand extra fuel so i am wondering, Will this affect my fuel system in any way? Would i need an upgraded fuel pump and injectors? If so i know i can go with a Supra pump... What can i use for injectors? |

No such thing as a full rebuild kit. You can buy a gasket kit that comes with the majority of the seals and such, but bearings and rings and hardware are separate. my gasket set was $223 http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-01-2-2L-Toyota-...#ht_4243wt_1164 a Few people have use this kit to rebuild their 5sfe, they got over 20k so far no issues. would recommend for DD and budget rebuild. The only things i question on these kits are... How good are the oil and water pumps? Also will the 97-01 kit fit the 94 5s? |

^^^^ you have spent way too much. gasket set is about 240 at most. ring set is about 100. bearings for rods and crank are about 150. get a good cylinder hone tool either the balls or stones. follow my guide on rebuilding the 7A. the 5S is similar. a few little difference here and there. get a good straight edge from harbor freight and check to make sure everything is straight. Lap the valves, dont pay for a full valve job. i have rebuilt 3 5S-FEs and numerous others. Well so far i have spent 540$... 250$ on the valve job 35$ on a pressure test 50$ for surfacing the head and 50$ to set the valves and 140$ on the head gasket set! After paying that much i just realized i am putting way to much money into this 5s.. I want to attempt to do the block myself! I have decent mechanical skills but never did an engine build before |

keep in mind, hp isnt everything. what gets you going? torque. all turbo setups work well because its added torque not just hp. the 4a's were designed for corrolas, meaning a lighter car. most people who do 4a swaps do it for the endless upgrading and a high rev platform to work with. others who do it and leave it regret it. it literally is slower then a 7a in a 6gc. drove a friends car will one and it wouldnt go unless it was up at 6k. Hmm that's good to know. I have a friend who is determined to do a 1uz or yz something like that in the car...is that possible? Only if you make it a rear wheel drive. The 1uz is a 4 liter V8, I once took the measurements to fit one to the existing FWD transmission, and determined it would be 12 inches wider than the engine bay and would most likely drag on the ground under the car. It has been swapped into a celica as a Rear Wheel Drive though. The 1mz-fe will fit of course, its a 3.0 liter V6. You would have to swap in a GT transmission and motormounts though, as it shares the same bolt patterns as the 5SFE and 3SGTE In my honest opinon... I dont see the point in the 1uz swap! All in all it depends what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. I recommended the 4a being that its a cheap/feasible/direct drop in swap. Now if you want performance and also daily drivability i would say 3sgte all the way! |

the noise, is it coming from the top of the engine (the head) or from the lower block? Mine make noise from the block cause it has a bad rod bearing in it. its coming from the top i believe..everyone keeps telling me its my lifters...are they hard to fix? I also am having the same noise on my 7afe... Its quiets down a little after oil changes but not completely. It also has 210k on so i figured the motors soon at the end of its time and soon its time for a rebuild due to lack of being maintained properly by previous owners ya mine has 200k+ on it as well I know it shouldn't be rod knock though because it's been making this noise for almost a year and I know it's stupid but I still rape on it pretty much everywhere I go. Figure if it pops it pops but it hasn't but I'm getting tired of hearing this noise now. So I just want to know what would be the quickest, easiest way to fix this... I'm thinking its an internal engine noise... Best thing I would do is tear it down for a rebuild That's not a bad idea at all! There are some nice horsepower numbers in the forced induction dyno sticky on oem boosted 5sfe's! There is a little bit of work you have to do to fit an S series engine into a A series car but it has been done before and you can also find that on here in the stickys! I am rebuilding a 5s as of right now and also thinking of boosting it when I get some miles on the fresh engine Well sweet all I have to do now is find one lol Ever thought about throwing in a 4age silvertop in? It will drop right in your car... They are cheap... And you get alot more power then what your 7afe has now! You just wont have as much fun as you will have with the 5sfe boosted setup! But youll have your car back in full effect with more power and less $$$ spent! |

decided to go with a full rebuild it being my first experience with an interference engine Here's the twist, Celicas do not have interference engines. Did some research and you are right they are a non interference engine! I bought my st204 for dirt cheap since the seller was told it was an interference engine and it bent valves when the belt broke... Turns out it didn't bend any valves |

I will try a socket again, though I was getting enough torque on it that the socket got stuck on the bolt on my last attempt and actually is starting to round the bolt (and this is with 19mm not a 3/4). I can't get a long bar in there since its still in the engine and there isn't clearance to come out the top... LOL - it this doesn't work I am going to have it towed to the mechanic down the street and pay him $50 bucks to take it off and save my sanity! I hope that works out for you! i once had to do that with a civic i had... Mechanic hit it a few times with a hammer then put the impact gun to it |

All in all you will end up spending 1000-1500$ depending on if you are going to be removing and installing the engine yourself and what exact parts your are going to be replacing! I am currently in the proccess of rebuilding my 5s and so far ive spent about 600$ just on a Head Gasket Set/Valve job/decking the head since it was kind of warped/some light porting and having the head tested on a flow bench! Next week i will be dropping off the block... No price for that yet |
