Do you have interior pics? Is automatic or manual?

Today I sold my Celica. After 5 years 2 months and 15 days of driving a fine car. I was very pleased with it and enjoyed the build. Thank you everybody for your advise and support when I asked questions here. I might come back to sell a few items in case you are interested in them.

Hahaha, Never mind, I thought it was Lynwood, CA but it is Lynwood, WA. No wonder the license plate is that of Washington. Looking at the pictures, I realized that the car has been stripped of most of its good stuff. Somebody has been making money off of it. It is sad to see the before and after pictures.

I recommend you read the stickies again because all your questions have been answered. I know i have answered them myself elsewhere

It was there where I read about the 4th gen 3s-gte. Unfortunately I didn't read any elaboration as to the fwd issue or its power, but I'll take another look smile.gif Since you have experience with engine swaps with that V6 on your celica, what would you recommend I do?

Hi everyone,

My mechanic has told me that my 5S-FE engine has about 2 more years to go and at 230,000 miles he might be right (my car, when cold, exhales white smoke though the tail pipe). I could either do an overhaul or drop in a new engine and make it stick shift in the process. So, if I were to drop in a new engine, what I need to know what would be more convenient. These are the options so far:

  1. A 3rd gen 3S-GTE with AWD
  2. A 4th gen 3S-GTE with AWD
  3. A 4th gen 3S-GTE with FWD

Since I have seen 4th Gen 3S-GTE from Caldinas for sale with Manual trasnmissions and FWD, I assume that No. 3 above is possible. That would be great as I wouldn't have to spend that much money to convert to AWD since my Celica is FWD. So, is it possible to use a 4th gen in a '96 Celica? I remember reading it is possible somewhere in this site, but I would like confirmation on this. Also, I read here years ago that if one deicedes to use a 3rd gen 3S-GTE AWD and just use the front wheels instead of doing the conversion to AWD, one would lose about half the power from the engine, so if it is possible to do an engine swap with a 4th gen. 3S-GTE FWD would I get the whole 3S-GTE power in just the two front wheels?

What would you recommend I do? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Today I tried to buy at an AutoZone a cabin air filter for my Celica '96 and was given the stock engine intake filter. When I realized what was happening and told the clerk of the mistake, she said she gave me that one because there is no cabin filter for this car. Is this true? I just replaced my wife's cabin filter in her prius and though that every car would have one. Any input is appreciated.

Man, I'm in So. Cal. and I would like to pay you a visit to maybe grab a few items I have been wanting to get. I would like to take a look at that box you have as I think I could use the cigarrette lighter (I don't smoke but it looks ugly without it). Anyway, I would like to see what else you have and get a few things I see in the pics. Let me know if it is possible.

Hi everyone, I am reviving this old thread because I have an update. The car has changed since the last pictures above. It now has the OZ rims I wanted (since Feb. 2013) and I just received the decals from Mook the day before yesterday. As you might imagine, I am very excited because the project is close to completion. I will soon post pictures of the car with the rims, then post pictures of the car as I apply the decals to the post the final product. It is going to look amazing woot.gif

Hi guys, thanks for the input. I do city and highway driving, I would say more like 60 hwy and 40 city, plus traffic. I do turn on the AC a lot in the summer, but not in the winter, has it has been for the last months. Anyway, I bring up this issue because the car is running rich and I was wondering if 24 combined was OK.

Not even a '95 MR2 Turbo 3S-GTE into a '94 Celica?

Anyhow, the GT was rated at 22/28 new, so if you do mostly city driving with the A/C on 24 or so would be about right I suppose.

I know, but when i go to the thread about MPG our Celica's give us, people boast about way higher gas economy, even with GT, I think. If you go to fueleconomy.gov my data is the only one for our car. It is 24.

-14 is not that bad. its not maxing out. what was the driving condition when you were at -14 if you were idling thats normal. when you go full throttle it should be close to 0.

all USDM 3S-GTE were ODB-I and a 3S-GTE swap is not legal in CA. only a V6 swap is legal.

Oh, the -14 is pretty much constant. It happens when I idle and when I accelerate the car or even if cruise it, pretty much all of the time except when I accelerate hard, when it goes to close to zero. I heard that the long term fuel trim is supposed to be the memory saved and it is not supposed to change that often. I don't know, but I'll try different things to see what happens.

Hi everyone, I write to see if I can get some insight into what could be wrong with my car. I bought a BlueDriver scanner to see how then engine behaves and get information from the computer, get 0 to 60 data, and learn more from the data the car spits out, I am a scientist and am crazy about data handling. Anyway, I noticed that the short term fuel trim (STFT) goes negative, making the Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) push it to the negative limit of -14%. I have learnt what it means and realize that the car is running rich and therefore the computer is trying to compensate. The thing is that I don't know what could be wrong.

I was told that the problem could be an exhaust leak, since the car had some work on the engine head for it had overheated, this was also supported by a light click-clak sound when the engine was cold at idle and by a small cloud of white smoke when the car was started. So when I took it to the mechanic, he replaced the seals with new ones and brushed the exhaust manifold to clear the leak. The sound is gone, but I still get a now smaller cloud of white smoke when I start the car in the morning and after it has been off for a few hours. The car continues to run rich and I don't know what it could be. I get about 24 MPG and drive conservative.

Any ideas on what it could be? Are the any test I can do to check for possible problems. I know the O2 sensors work fine, since the voltages work as expected. Please help!!!

Oh, and I have a somewhat unrelated question: Is the 3SGTE engine OBDI or OBDII?

Thanks.

Today I ordered the full set of decals of the WRC GT-FOUR rally car to complete the finish of my car. Looking forward to see them in the car. I ordered them off Mook and it looks promising. I am finishing the project as I had envisioned it.

Would the front clip fit in a Ford F-150 pick up truck. I'm thinking of picking it up if I get the time off work.

I'm th guy whom you sold your white hatch back in 2012. I'm interested on a new engine for my celica, and the faint possibility of the 3s-gte is there in my mind. Will I need to make a conversion to an AWD if I get this engine?

Adding to the list, I am also after a RHD GT4 hood latch, this is the only part I do not have for my GT4 front smile.gif

I have the RHD GT4 hood latch, but it is not extended as the extended is in my car. Everything else is there, so it can be opened with the RHD hood latch. Are you interested?

Here are the pictures:

Not sure if it would work, I have a GT4 Bonnet and bumper to install, so will that require it to be extended? (I think it does, but not quite sure)

i will require it to be the extended. I have the extended installed in my car. The advantage with this one, is that this is for a RHD, it is short, but for a RHD. You can extend it as the hook has to be approximatelly 1 in. longer and that can be done by welding a piece of metal to the hook, everything else is the same. Let me know.

My extended hood latch to fit my gt4 hood snapped the other day.

So if you have a happen to have access to a cheap hood latch please let me know and if you can go ahead and extend it to fit the gt4 hood, i'd pay extra.

I don't want to spend 75 dollars for it from the dealer and then another 25 for a shop to modify it.

Thanks
Jesse

I happen to have the one for a RHD. Is this the one you need? It is not extended, but just short. You would need to extended as I can't do it at the moment.
