What is the gain from converting to this? I have been looking for something like this.

Nothing

Technically a DIS system such as EDIS is much more exact than a distributor setup. Given there is not much of a power difference but its all about tunability and DIS > distributors.

To close...  the engine now runs and needs tuning... that's gotta wait till I get back in a week or two.

Megat Tweak 3k will be a good friend of your now. Get to know him becaus your gonna spend a few days with him. I've been tuning my car all week and I now have it very nice in the cruise rpm's hitting 14.7AFR's on the LM-1 wideband. I could prolly lean it out a bit more but boost is comming.

Make sure you read the documentation that comes with MST3K it has very useful info reguarding EGO feedback and tuning for low and high rpm's. Do you haev a wideband? Nows the time Innovate's LC-1 would be a good solution.

You setup looks good man and it should make that corolla come out of some turns sideways biggrin.gif

Well I've got an answer for the Ford EDIS question. It is an Electronic Distributorless Ignition System. The spark's dwell and timing is controlled by the ECU and EDIS module instead of by the distributor. If I remember correctly the system is also "wasted spark" meaning one coil provides spark for two cylinders. One spark is "wasted" because at the same time one cylinder is on it's compression stroke the other is on its exhaust stroke.

You got it. EDIS is about the best thing to come out of Ford in the 90's

Its found on 91-95 ford escorts for the 4 cyl version. You can usually find it on ebay for $75-100 for the complete setup. It integrates very well with Megasquirt.

Let me start by saying Megasquirt wiring is EXTREMELY easy compared to the stock ECU... so don't underestimate the headache.

That is an under statement. I've spliced a harness or 2 and compared ot the MS I just wired up on my VW it was a breeze.

Can I get a pic of your mounting of the EDIS wheel and sensor. I'm looking for ideas on how to mount mine.

After rebuilding my friends 5s we had trouble with the O rings sealing. It is possible to do it with the intake and valve cover on you just got to be patient.

The wastegate controls the exhast thus controling the speed of the exhaust turbine which controls the speed of the compressor turbine. The slower the turbine goes the less it compresses which controls the boost. A boost controler is placed between the vac line from the compressor housing and the wastegate. It makes pressure buildup on the wastegate spring take longer thereby making the gate open later when there is more pressure in the system.

Bov' serve more to relieve the turbo when the throttle closes so that the back pressure created doesnt harm the turbo. They are not entirely necessary in applications under 8psi from what i've read.

A good book is of course
Maximum Boost by Corky Bell

It's not a good engine because it's mounted the wrong way to drive the front wheels. So you'd need a whole new transmission.

At which point it's a lot easier to build a kit car from the ground up and hang celica panels off it......

(that might not be true)

Tube chassis anyone?

You are way to rich at idle. Lean it out a bit and go easy on the boost until you can get to someone to tune it.

Its not a cracked ring it is most likely valve stem seals. They are notorious for going on 5SFE's. As far as a shop it might be pricy. I'd just make sure its filled with oil and keep driving it till it blows up(which shouldnt be soon).

Pimped's offer sounds real good.

Anybody know anything about Centerforce Clutches?

Did a little research, sounds pretty good. Anybody own one?

-Ed

P.S. Does anybody know what the effect of putting a hi-performance clutch on a stock celi would be? Anything really bad?

Depending on the puck and sprung or unsprung will determine on how harsh the engagement is. I vote stock unless under boost.

http://www.rceng.com/

They have a nice selection that will fit right in and connect to your stock injector harness. Send them an email or give them a call.

If your not boosting chances are the stock clutch will hold all the power you can throw at it.

But if you insitst....

and

Both are pretty reputable.

Skip the Venom injectors and get some RC Engineering 550cc injectors.

9.5:1 isnt necessarily high for compression. You'd be safer to run an intercooler though. If you wanted non intercooled 5psi you should be ok. Any more boost that that i'd recommend a intercooler.

On that note has anyone here tried stacking Headgaskets? On VW's we can get away with up to 3 HG's stacked to lower compression and they hold to almost 20 psi!

Remember there are 2 different kinds of searches. If you pulled over for speeding the cop can visually search your car. Which means shine his light in and see if he sees anything to denote furthur probable cause. He needs a warrent however to get into your car and poke around.

He said he'd give me a hand when I help my friend do his 5SFTE. If I see him around town i'll see what he has to say and if he can send me his dyno. I remember for a trans he ran a 5S trans with TRD limited slip.

5th gen celica. He mentioned pauter rods, JE 9:1 pistons, and Tec 2 management on 15psi. I forgot what turbo he was running.

A local 5sfte was running 550CC RC Engineering injectors at upwards of 300hp.

Eh you got a recipt for that thing?

I hate how these companies rip people off. This one didnt even fudge a dyno either. This thing is definatly not worth it. All it does is waste fuel. For $300 your better off with a SAFC2 or SMT6. Something that actually allows fuel/timing control.

Sorry man.

Thank god for rednecks on the east coast. My last inspection I pulled in at 5 till close and left my car running infront of the door. I said "sir can I please get an inspection before you close". He takes a peak outside the door and said son your half way there. Then he just wrote me a sticker, I paid the man(normal price btw) and I was on my way.

That looks like a pile of crap it doesn't even give hard details about what it exactly does. Save your money for something better.
