Thx all

Well, i had a dealership do it so i got screwed over mostly.

But, the hub and bearing are around 150-200 bucks. and install was like 400.

Its a bit of work unfortunately, because the hub is pressed into the bearing, and then that is pressed into the watcha call it thing, unfortunately i forget.

But after i took my car into a curb, the wheel would wobble at just about any low speed, and i didn't dare take it to a high speed.

Or it could be that the bearing got tore up a little from the jolt. Happened to my dumbass too, had to replace the hub and bearing and wheel., but it is fine now.

OK, this might've been covered somewhere but i just can't seem to find it anywhere.

I am currently looking at getting some Gram Lights 57s for my baby,
They are 17x7.5 with +48 MM offset.

Now the tires i am looking at are Yokohama Avid H4S tires which are
215/40HR/17 tires

I have all stock suspension, and for the most part those tires with those wheels are just shy of the exact same diameter as my current steelys are with their tires.

Does anyone know if having that much offset combined with the 7.5s would cause any rubbing against any suspension component or fender ect?

or am i pretty much safe in the limits of the vehicle?

I appreciate it much.

Gtalmond.

Apparently people like to get a closer look at our celicas, the same thing happened to me, but i ended up hitting the brakes early enough to cause the car to slide into the curb.

My Poor alignment and wheel is cooked.

But i's getting 'er fixed

Heavily doubt that the engine or trans could get a "short" from grounding out a positive lead, maybe a part of the electrical system.

I would definately recommend checking all of your fuses, when something like the battery gets grounded out, usually a number of them blow to prevent damage to the computer.

Check your computer, use a friends and see if there is any difference, if there is, most likely your comp has been zapped.

Replace your battery, when a battery is grounded out for an extended period of time like that, damage does occur, while it may not be noticable, but discharge is most likely to occur much faster, plus now that it has been grounded, there is an minor unsafe chance of explosion.

Check your wires, and plugs, make sure that none of them have any corrosion, or melting/fusing from the grounding.

Check the altenator, the grounding out does have an effect on it since it can reach back to the charging source.

I had a friend that accidentally got his battery to ground out to his cars body, 2 of the doors were welded closed at the latches.

Be careful next time, and thats about it.

QUOTE(cheesebacon @ Dec 9, 2004 - 10:11 AM)
i get smoke everytime i start the car regardless of the temperature. but when i start driving it, the smoke clears.

i think i've got big problems....i was told that it won't pass smog...

how much does it usually cost to replace the head gasket? what's a fair price on a rebuild kit?  thanks in advance.

Headgaskets are time consuming and expensive, its about a 6+ Hour Job (Mitchell Time Book) That means it will most likely be around $500-600 Labor +-100, +200 +-50 for parts.

Have you actually tested your smog at a MVA or DMV Test site, just because it smokes in the morning doesnt mean it wont pass smog tests.

Blue is Oil, Usually from bad piston rings, bad piston, or cracked block (Most Expensive to Fix)

White - Gray is usually anti-freeze, usually from a bad headgasket, and sometimes with a cracked block. (Less Expensive to fix)

Black is fuel, if you spew black, your running too rich, Not gunna mess your engine up. (Little Expense to tune out)

Sometimes when its cold out, it is just condensation

Blue is kinda a whitish blue color, but definately should be able to tell.

If you smoke white smoke all the time, no matter what, you have an antifreeze leak, you can also tell because your antifreeze has most likely mixed with your oil, and turned it into a sludgy gray color.

Those are all teh colors you engine should put out, unless someone put some green dye in there somewhere.

Oh yeah, and it can be set up for 4-12 cylinders, so very adaptable

Well, Tires, Suspension, brakes, wheels ect.

Just things like that.

I really am a stickler for making sure that all the angles are right so that i get the best ride for what i got, you just cant slam a car to the ground and put the biggest tires and wheels on it you can. There is a lot of engineering that goes into figuring out the best angles for the most amount of traction and wear pattern.

I probably am gunna find some custom cams. Which aint gunna be easy, but once i map out the cams from the 4age heads, i should be able to get an idea of how much i want to increase the lobe size for longer duration with the best overlap timing.

$480 a pop really isnt that bad, for Performance cams and such.

The main thing i am really going to have to mostly worry about is gunna be the standalone 'puter. I'm looking into some of the aftermarket ones that were built for the supra. I hear it is a real power booster because you can completely map out the fuel system in the computer, and adjust fuel load at every 50 rpm.

I think they cost around 5000.

See this is all for the engine, but there are other facts that i need to take into account.

One, Aerodynamics.
Two, Traction.

So many other things

Need to figure this out tiers.

I dont want to lose stoke, however, i want a better revving engine, Shes already limited to 5800 RPM, but with all of the lightened internals i hope to be at 6800-7000 rpm.

Theres no replacement for displacement.

No one really ever talks about the Naturally Aspirated ways of making horse power on this forum, mostly just engine swaps, turbo, and suprcharging.

Plus im a little bitter and jealous of the 2.2 GTs

Does anyone know if there are any performance internals out there somewhere for the 7AFE engine.

This is sorta what i really want to do.

4A-GE Cylinder Head, (Havent decided red or black top)
Lightened and shorter stroke crankshaft, (I know it might lesson the engine size because the stroke will be smaller, but i think the higher revs will fix that.)
Shorter & lighter & Forged piston arms
Flatter and shorter & Forged performance pistons.
Lighter valves.
Harder valve springs.
Lighter camshaft with a bit more lobe to them.
Bore out the cylinder to what is feasible.
Pulleys.
Intake
Injectors
Fuel Pump

And then

6 speed tranny??????

And then once i get that far, after a couple years of recouperating the cash flow, i might buy in for a turbo.

I found a couple places that actually supply the stuff i am looking for, But just need some ppl's opinion

Is it feasible, reasonable, ect ect.

Thanks all.

Has anyone done the 4a-GZE swap with the supercharger? Im really looking into doing that.

Anyone with first hand experience?

also how much should it cost?

I was looking at buy an engine for about $800 that has all the head and super charger, but, i think it would just be cheaper to buy the parts.

Anyone?

Is there any other engine swap that would be good for an ST?

Or is the best way to go just upgrade the heads and put an aftermarket Turbo on it?

Its good looking.

Remove all the glass and wear goggles and a helmet.

Did you say you already got a Fiberglass hood?

Bore you block out, put in aluminum forged pistons, piston arms, aluminum heads. that'll get a little bit of weight.

Remove the bumper, but leave the cover on.
Remove all emblems.
Remove your window regulator and lock your windows in the up position.
Remove your rear windshield wiper.

Switch your driver seat with the passenger seat or find a seat that isnt powered.

Remove Power Steering
Remove your gas shocks.
Remove your brake rotors and calipers.
Oh yea, remove the stereo, speakers, wiring, ect.

Yeah, thats it.
some of them are serious, others are not.

Have fun.

Anyone have any recommendations for performance on a 1.8 7AFE. Basically i gotsa stock engine.

I havent done much in the field of modifications. I did a custom smooth tube intake setup with a K&N filter. Thats about it.

NO Nitrous, if you please!

Thats about it. I really want to get some power into the old 1.8, but im a little short on funds.
