I have a 1995 convertible, body is in horrible shape, little dents here and there. Need to be sanded down and repainted. Cheaply done its $700. nicely down $2500 or more. I could fix and paint, but I am considering selling. The top works great, no broken arms on it. The rear windows both work fine. I got the top and windows from a 1997, they fit perfectly in my 1995. The top itself is fine but worn. Had the nice 8 speaker system, but the system is gone. Also has the 1997 seats, nicer, softer.

Engine had the bottom rebuilt at 190k, its now at 201k Runs very good. Manual, new clutch.

Curious, what is the top mechanism an rear windows worth on their own?

What is the car worth?

Hi,

I have a 1995 Celica GT convertible but I swapped 1997 fabric seats into it.

Know of any manufactures or sellers of leather upholstery kits for a 1997 Celica Convertible?

Will Leather fit on the 1997 fabric seats without a problem?

Any leads are appreciated.

Thanks,

Neal

I found a couple of kits. One from Detroit axle
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-10pc-Fro...e3c&vxp=mtr

and one from energy suspension

http://www.autozone.com/1/products/98833-s...n-8-18106r.html

Anyone know either company?

Any thoughts on either kit?

I am not entirely sure exactly what each kit really is. The Detroit one seems more... complete?

The Detroit one seems to be oem type rubber and it also seems more complete.

Anything missing from either kit that you think I would need?

My guess is it was upper or lower control arm business. You could go polyurethane but that will make your car ride harder. I'd say do new struts and strut mounts on all 4 corners and see how that goes. Kyb is a good strut brand that doesn't break the bank. You could defiantly do struts yourself. They're no hard at all to do. This MCM video shows more or less how to install them.

http://youtu.be/qT_jgVqxH5U

Thanks,

Can you tell me if I buy one of the polyurethane kits or an OEM kit like it, is that all I need? or do I need to get new control arms as well. New tie rods etc... or will the kits basically renew the old parts and make them"tighter"?

I found a great at home mechanic, only charges 20 an hour... and he actually knows what he is doing.

Hi,

I have a 1995 GT convertible. I was told it can not be properly aligned since ... okay I forgot the name of the part that was bad, I was told two years ago. It may have been an upper or lower something or another, but not sure.

Anyway, I am wanting to fix / renew the entire suspension instead of just one part, and then another going bad in a few months.

But really, not an expert mechanic. I may hire a local mech to install the parts. But what parts?

I have seen polyurethane kits, it that all I need? Which kit?

Pretend it was your car, you are on a budget, you had an old car that was not very well taken care of...ever... and now you want to renew the suspension. How would you go about it? What kits or parts need to be replaced?

I know this is an open ended request, I am looking for good ideas.

Thank you in advance.

Any luck so far?

I replaced the entire top on mine, motors and everything. From what I saw it was a pre fabbed unit. No real adjustment needed.
But... the top frames do bend or in my case break. Is the frame part above the rear window broken?

If the frame is fine, my guess is it is the windows. Adjust the windows instead of the top. That was an issue with mine as well.

If you close the top over a closed window, it can set it off track. Always keep the windows lowered when putting up the top.

Hope that helps.

What do you mean buckles are different?

I am about to swap the seats on my car. The buckle, or safety belt is not attached to the seat so I left those alone.

Do you mean wiring harness? Please let me know what does not match.

Thanks!

My gf has a 2010 corolla with a 1.8 engine, 2ZRFE. Runs good. Has a timing chain instead of belt I am told. Is this a good engine? can it be swapped into a 95 celica? Just curious...

Hi,

I am playing with selling my car. Not really sure if I want to sell since I have fixed sooo many things on it and it now runs great.

It still needs paint, and a little body work, but I have an extra interior including another top, frame, top motor, back window ,another set of rear windows with motors, tan carpet and newer 1997 tan seats that are perfect.

The car itself is white with a black top. One of the rear frame parts is cracked but it goes up and down great. I did not even realize it was broken until I was thinking of replacing it. The extra top is perfect.

The car has black interior and black carpet. Driver seat needs cloth repair.

The car has the 8 speaker sound system, but the stock radio and amp are not in the car.

I really do not know what it is worth or what to sell it for. I was thinking 5000 for the car, extra top extra carpet seats etc

The ad has pics, but the ad price does not include the extra parts.

What I have done to the car...
New water pump, new oil pump, new timing belt, new CV axles, 6 months ago.
New fuel pump and filter, new distributor and plugs, new tie rod end, new/used knuckle and bearings 1 week ago.

Mind if I ask, where did you get the front clip with engine? What did it cost?

Looks great!

Hi, my interior lights on the windshield area are not working right. They have some at a junkyard I thought I would try out. I thought they would just pry out, but that is not working and i do not wish to damage them. how do you remove?

These are the lights on the windshield area next to the sun visor area.

Thanks,

I ended up hiring a mechanic, as he took the wheel spindle off, the bearing fell out in pieces but left behind the inner rim. He was not able to remove, so off the the junkyard I went. I got the spindle knuckle with a good bearing for 50. Not sure if that's a good price, but it worked.

Thanks for all the advice!

I had an issue with intermittent over heating. It turned out the fans were not coming on. Not entirely sure why. After checking the system, apparently a loose wire was no longer loose and it was fine after that.

I got some really deep threaded hex bolts from Home Depot bigger than what was originally used.

How did you install them?

Hi everyone,

When I bought my car the previous owner took off the factory antenna and installed a small rubbery one but it does not sit upright, it leans off the car at about a 45% angle like a ... well.

Anyway, aside from taking away the little blue pills I feed my car, what alternative antenna's do other people use? Obviously I want one that actually has decent reception and does not attract undue attention.

Thoughts?

Thanks, how hard is ti to take off in a junkyard? It looks like it bolts to the strut, do you need to compress the spring to take it off?

Any direction is appreciated...

Thanks. I thought about getting one from a junk yard, but I am not entirely sure what the knuckle is. Can anyone tell me what it is and how to remove?

The diagram above is great, but the parts are not identified so I am not real sure what I need to remove.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have bad bearings in the front passenger side. I noticed online a rear wheel assembly for the same price as the bearings along.

Is there an assembly for the front?

I was told something about it being called the knuckle, can you buy that with the bearings already installed so no need for a press?

The mechanic I was talking to said the assembly or whatever holds the bearings was probably bad since the wheel bearings are making noise, and I may as well get and replace the whole thing. Now I know part of if not his whole reason for saying this is apparently it is less labor to just replace the whole knuckle compared to replacing the bearings... But what is yor experience? It only started making scrapping noises today, do you expect the whole knuckle to be bad?

Hi, I was looking for parts online, came across a coupon code, if you spend $110, you get 40 bucks off with coupon code a124.
I have to buy around 260 worth of parts, so I split the order in two, and used the coupon twice. They advertise 20% off, but with this coupon I found online I saved almost 40%.

I do not know if they frown on posting coupons on this site, not looking to spam, not associated with advanced or anything, just thought it was a good deal and wanted to share.

According to retailmenot.com the deal is this, I used it twice in same log in.

Advance Auto Parts: Take $10 off $30, $25 off $70 and $40 off $110 orders. Expires 02/28/2013

Thanks so much! Great information!

You mentioned swapping heads, how much of a difference will that make and how hard is it?

Where can you get the ge heads?

If at a junk yard, what cars could you find them on?

Is the fuel efficiency much worse with the ge compared to the fe?
A little more gas is not a problem but my last car/truck got 10 mpg, never want that again...

Thanks again!

I am considering an engine swap. I see the 3sge and the 3sgte are both more powerful than the 5s. I can understand the turbo one being faster, but why is the 3sge?

I was reading where the 5s was basically a newer improved version of the 3s, but it looks like it is not as fast, is anything about it better?

I have the 5sfe now with a manual. I value reliability, low maintenance and fuel efficiency. Power is great but not the main deciding factor.

Thoughts?

looks like I need to replace a valve cover gasket. I saw Special Edy's video, in the video he mentioned posting more pics, did he ever do that?

love to see. them.

As for gaskets, I thought I read somewhere about a metal gasket, but that may have been for a main seal. Is there a type of preferred gasket for the valve gasket and tube seals? Fel pro ok?

Napa mentions a set with grommets, what are those?

Did not start again this morning!!!

I pulled a plug wire and put an old spark plug in it to see if it sparked, I did not see a spark. I am not sure if I did that right, does the plug need to be touching metal for that to work?

Someone mention the cold start sensor, could that stop it from starting or sparking?

I replaced the ignition months ago so I did not think it could be that but I am afraid it might be..
