I have bveen having a progressive nightmare trying to replace the rear pads. first i couldn't get the wheels off. the previous owner has put nice wheel son it but with pcd converters. when i came to remove teh wheels i discovered on 3 wheels i have had to drill out at tleast one wheel stud. then once i got the wheels off i tried t remove the pad pins but they were corroded so out came the drill again and eventiually i had the pads replaced. then i discovered that the corrosion on the inside of the rear rotors was causing the surface to flake off and very uneven breaking. SO i took the plunge and ordered new disks. the problem was then trying to get teh old ones off because of the pcd converters which i couldn't get a socket onto. So i had to drill all 5 studs out and now i need to replace the studs but i can't get them out of the flange and i'm a bit nervous about just belting them with a club hammer. So i need to remove the flange but all i've managed to do is push the drive shaft out the back of the hub. My question is how do i remove the flange so i can get it in a vice for some persuasion with or without some heat? As luck would have it i noticed a mark on the front disk so jacked her up and low and behold the front wheel bearing was so lose the disk was grinding on the caliper. i really wasn't expecting that but on closer inspection it looks like someone previously forgot the drive washer as the captive nut washer abnd the spliut pin were not properly seated and have coincidentally failed at the same time as the rear pads. got to be the most pig of a job ever just to replace brake pads. grrr. thanks john |
