Ugh this is whole mod is driving me mad - I've since gotten the rubber boots at the back of the headlights. The plastic plugs I bought were beginning to get hot and melt at the closest point to the headlight - not majorly but still melting. I put it down to cheap plastic connectors. So I've temporarily removed the plastic and just left the terminals exposed (yes I know not great lol) Are the h1 bulbs supposed to get this hot ? There is no damage to the wiring from the heat... I can't figure out if the brand of bulbs are putting out too much heat, whether my wiring is the culprit (which doesn't appear to have any unexpected voltage drop) or whether the headlights themselves are missing some sort of heat sink I'm tempted to just put the originals back in |

No worries - managed to get them for a steal - all 4 lights for about 150NZD - so pretty happy. I haven't looked too much into the plugs that came with them - fingers crossed they came with the correct ones |

Doing the flasher check gives OBDI codes. OBDII was a U.S. only thing, I know EOBD which was Europe's equivalent wasn't until 2001, I think it was about the same for JOBD which was Japan's. Being the SS-I it was never a U.S. market car. Ah i see. Time to source me a new O2 sensor then... Goodbye 150 bucks Thanks Box |

Code 21 is primary O2 sensor, so it's the one in the exhaust manifold or right below it. Which would explain the reduced economy. Hmmm. The only issue i've just realised is the code i got was from http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=93774 and i've realised that its OBDI - But i may have OBDII? Does that affect anything? |

Hmmm have reset the fuel air mix multple times - no difference.... Decided to use the ol' fashioned paper clip trip and do a fault test.. Came up with 2 flashes. Pause. 1 flash. According to the fault code page its comes up as oxygen sensor So how many oxygen sensors are there? Is there just the one? *noob* |

Hey everyone I went to go back my celica in the garage last night and as I walked behind the car I got a strong smell of petrol :s My assumption is the O2 has gone bad (as my fuel consumption has gone up slightly) as well as idle is rough sometimes. How can I easily (and cheaply) diagnos a faulty O2 sensor ? mines a 3sfe Thanks also no CEL has come up ... Yet lol |

It shouldn't reek of fuel though, a slight odour is normal. Just saw where it said faint. Yeah, if there's 3,000+ miles on the oil and it's a faint smell you're fine. Though a tuneup wouldn't hurt if it hasn't been done in awhile. Yeah I'm sitting at about 9K kms ( about to do one shortly ) I haven't exactly had alot of money lately so I've been really slack in terms of maintenance But i got around to doing my spark plugs. The car has been driving alright so I havent thought to check the sparkies but they were screwed! I thought they may have been long life platnum ones, but it just had some cheapies in it that haven't been changed since before i bought it 70,000km ago Lets just say my accelerations alot nicer |

Hey guys I went to check my oil the other day, and when i pulled out the dipstick i could smell a faint smell of petrol.... Obviously that doesn't sound great... It seems to be running fine. No sign of smoke etc. My fuel consumption has increased but thats more likely the fact i've moved to town and am now doing a lot of stop go driving... Im going to pull out the sparkys tonight and see if they're screwed - Is there anything else i should check??? Mines a 3SFE Thanks! Liam |

Hey everyone, Ive had a irritating squeek come from my RH rear brakes recently, so i decided to chuck the car onto some jackstands and have a look at whats going on..... Turns out my stub axle is bent! Dont ask - I have no idea either. My assumption is its from the previous owner and ive only just noticed it! Anyway im trying to order a new stub axle and bearing assembly and im having trouble finding one in my local area. So can anyone reccomend a good online parts website? (or if anyone on here from NZ knows someone whos wreaking a celica) Does anyone know if a toyota curren one would fit? Cause i may be able to nick one off my brothers parked up curren. The only diffenence with our cars is mine has disc, and his has drum brakes (if that makes a difference?) Thanks for the help! |

My aircon has been playing up lately - It works fine but everyone now and again it will stop pumping cold air and the light on either the aircon or the e-con button will flash. I have been told its a common issue that the relay packs a sad and needs to be replaced. Sometimes turning it on or off fixes the problem. I rang toyota and they told me $140 bucks to replace a small black relay! What a rip! Compared to some places overseas for only $20 - 40 genuine... Does anyone know what the actual amp rating of the relay is? It only has this on it "Relay ISO M4-S TOYOTA 90987-02010 156700-0060 12V DENSO" Because i may be able to order - or pick up one from repco or a similar parts store Help? Thanks |

the proper way to install the temp sensor is to drill a hole, find a rubber grommet the right size and stick it in the tube. On my car when it was turboed, and Amy's car now, i just have it sitting in the engine bay. You need the sensor plugged in or you will get a CEL. (96+ years) Righteo, that was another idea of mine - Although i see one flaw; Because the pipe is round, and you've fitted the grommet, and slotted in the sensor, won't there be a gap? Between the bottom flat edge of the sensor, and the round pipe? Or is this something that won't affect it? |

Hey guys, i want some advice on a pod filter install with the air temp sensor - how important is this component? Can i leave it hanging near the pod filter, or should i plumb it in? If i do plumb it in - Whats the best way of doing this? Get a small pipe extension from an auto store and drill a hole in the rubber, and slot it in? Ideas please - Liam |

Great write up Although i did things slightly differently as i found mine leaked :s I swapped the top rubber cupping thing on the aerial bases around, which meant when I screwed the retaining nut in, it made it better watertight. Also, no need to cut the plastic base from the 6th gen. ^ 7th gen aerial with its original top piece The one on the left this the 7th gen base with 6th gen top piece on it - this created the better seal The mounting bracket that you removed i kept. I did this because the aerial wasn't supported enough, and i found that when i moved it slighty i could see my panel flexing :s All i did was take the bracket, bend it, and put a new bolt hole in it and it worked perfectly. Now it doesnt leak water Plus its reinforced - Liam |

I got a replacement mast and it didn't work. The Motor just wanted to keep pushing it in or out for longer than needed, and also it wasn't a proper fit. Toyota was gonna quote me 180 NZD for a proper mast, which is not happening. I've been trying to get a hold of a newer Celica mount for the s2000 mod, but again its hard to find in my area and Toyota quoted 300 NZD. I can't afford that lol. My best bet would be ordering in one from good ol' America. But i've gotta find somewhere that sells it |

But half of it has broken off inside of the motor (not the teeth) Whats my best plan of attack? Should i be pulling apart the unit? How do i do this? Or should i be paying Toyota about 300 bucks for a whole new unit?? Thanks guys Liam |

Thanks for the input guys! I reset my ecu last night and then filled up with bp's 95 (shhh, i work for an opposition ) so ill see how this run goes. My cars getting a WOF at work next week, so i might ask how much it will cost to get spark plugs done, filter, etc. I've recently done an oil change, so it may or may not be having an effect... Im using magnatec 10w-40. Was like 60 bucks for 4L D: |

Hey everyone Lately my car has been using more petrol than what it usually would, and i have no idea why. When i bought the car, i was running it on 91 octane, and it was using about 8.5 L per 100km, and then about 2 months ago i upgraded to 95 octane and it was using 8.1L per 100km. No mater how i drove it on 95, it was doing high kms every tank i was loving it But recently, its jumped back up to 8.5L per 100kms, and even though im driving it nicely, its still using alot of petrol. I started to notice it shortly after i had taken it on a car club run about a month ago ( driving around the hills, giving it a bit of stonk in the hills) To some of you, this may not really be a problem, but its worrying me as i don't want it to get worse (and on my current run, it seems to be getting worse ) Where would be a good place to start looking for what could be causing this issue? I'm 90% sure it isn't a leak, as there is no noticeable marks on the ground after being parked up. Air filter? Catalytic converter? Wrong fuel type? Fuel filter? O2 sensor? Thanks Engines a 3sfe. |

ABS? You reckon? I did think that, but it doesn't seem right. Personally i haven't been able to have a look myself, as i would have no idea. But when i got my new Tyre's and Alignment the other day, they did a check of my suspension and brake system and nothing was noted. |

Hey guys I have a weird problems with my brakes... When i brake over a bump, or when i pull off the side of the road and brake a weird like crunching noise is heard, and i can feel it in my brake pedal. Like if i brake on a judder bar or something similar it does it then too. It doesn't do it with normal driving, and braking distance hasn't changed, nor does it squeak when i brake. Ideas? Or anything i should be looking out for? Liam |
