I have been having a garage do the welding work for my Celica. See my thread here: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=88228&hl= All was well, until I got my car home. It all looked ok from the outside, but I noticed that the part they welded that supports the headlights and the bumper cover was crooked. They told me all the parts fit and the bumper goes on just fine, but in fact it didn't. When I went to install my headlights, the metal support was rubbing very tightly on the headlight. I managed to install the bumper cover, but fit ok on the left side but there were huge gaps on the right were most of the damage was. There were other smaller issues as well, but this was major. I took it back and showed them everything. They said they would fix it. I got the car back 4 days later. It looked great and I drove off. It rained and the weather was bad, so I didn't work on the car for a few days. I open the hood to see what work I needed to do and I find that they didn't fix any of the crooked welding. They simply replaced the oem bolts with long generic ones and used washers to force the cover up into the proper position! I could have done that! Am I wrong in expecting them to be able to weld the part and weld it correctly? Or am I over reacting? I'll post the pictures when I get a moment. |

Do the 94-95 JDM headlight "parking lights" have thier own relay to turn them on when the marker lights are turned on or are they simply tied into the marker light circuit and run off the same fuse as the marker lights? If someone with this OEM setup (or who knows) please let me know as I am needing to wire in my cars lights, but dont want to go to the trouble of adding another relay and wires if all I have to do is tap into the side marker 12V power. Also, if its all on the same circuit, what circuit is it in? and what size fuse is used. Thank you very much. |

Equipment used on public roads has to be .............. Parking lights may go on with the engine -- e.g. Canadian Celicas -- or only with the headlights -- American Celicas. I'm not sure about the Japanese design. However, as I understand it those side amber lights are required to flash to indicate turns in all markets outside North America (it's optional here). Interesting. I modified my 7th gen wiring so that my side amber marker come on like normal, but also blink with the turn signal in the headlights. (Actually they alternate blinking) I was looking at doing something similar in my 6gen. |

Ok so here is an update, because I dont have to tell you how long it takes to wire that cleanly. Right now I have 100 solders left(a fraction of what Ive done so far) because all I have to do is connect the two 50 pin IDE cables from the turn signal and parking lamp boards to the LED board. Then I can test fire it up and troubleshoot if necessary. Oh and like I said guys we will see what happens with the 12v CMOS chips driving the 5v TTL chips that are relays. My hands are tied in that these are the only style IC chips I could source. I may be wrong, but 12V CMOS driving 5V TTL may not be a very good idea. Without looking at the schematic you came up with, the 12V can either drive the crap out of TTL and burn them up. It could be instantly or maybe after a short while. Can the 5V TTL contacts handle the 12V and currents assosoiated with it? (You say they are acting as relays) If so, then all you would need to do is make a small 12V to 5V power supply to power the TTL chips with the correct voltage. An LM7805 should do the trick. Just be sure to add a few filter caps to control ripple and transient voltages. If this link works, its a simple circuit to step down 12V to 5V: You need to be sure what your 5v current draw is as well, you don't want to exceed the circuits capability. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view...umb=ygsGC3CfBsv |

Does anyone have a link or can send me the wiring schematic from Toyota for the JDM 95 Celica GT headlights wiring that shows the smaller bulbs found within the lowbeam lamps? I'm wiring my car up and would like to see how these are tied into the main harness. Thanks! |

I'll agree with this as well, it has always been the way Toyota operates fogs. I personally like them to come on with at least the parking lights. Mine also stay on with the low beams and high beams, but I've been considering making them come on only with parking and low, and turn off with high beams. |

Sorry to hear about the accident. That hurts on a few levels...... Are you an engineer or engineering student? Your ideas and projects are sound. You remind me of myself when I was younger going thru school. (I'm a 43 year old engineer now BTW) Some of the terms you use are a bit incorrect, but who cares....the idea is getting across, your projects work and your skills in soldering seem decent. I worked as an engineering tech while in college, learned a lot abotu soldering and testing of components and such. I look forward to seeing your sequential turn controller. |

Interior lights are in parallel. Not Series. They feed from a common positive bus, branch out into thier respective parallel branch and then to ground. Some of those wires going to ground run the rheostat, which varies the ground and allows dimming. Common mistakes when installing LED or other lighting mods is to run more current thru the rheostat than it was designed for and damage it. Do your glove box, ashtray, rear window defogger switch, combination meter lights work? Could be as simple as a fuse. |

I took my dash off and let me tell you, that vent is held in by 4 clips. It is nearly impossible to remove. I believe 2 are plastic and two are metal. It is somewhat similar to the drivers side, but the tabs are much tighter. The ductwork for them as well as the defroster vent will be in the way as well. I only got mine out because I was changing out the airbag, so my dash was coming out. I wish I took a picture of it to show you. (I somewhat documented my dash removal.) You get two clips squeezed and then the other side pops into place. I waited until I got the dash out. MUCH easier. |

Interesting idea. Did you calculate the current flow thru each LED to utilize the proper size current limiting resiztor and optimize the output of the LED? I've seen many circuits that use the wrong sized resistors, this leads to dim LED or worse, overdriving the LED's and damaging them. (Will dim or just not work) Also, based on the picture of the side marker light on your Celica, your not in the USA, do you have any restrictions on how bright a light can be? Seems to me that here in the USA, if I have a rear tail lamp as bright as a headlight, I'd probably get a ticket! lol So one like your first design with 50+ LEDS may be a better alternative. Nice job. |

i believe they go on with the parking lights. That makes sense, so they are not DTRL. (Day Time Running Lights). (But CAN BE if I want!) park lights, are what your thinking of We also dont have our side or front markers/indicators light up with the lights on unless your indicating or have the hazard button on. From what I understand you guys do? From what I remember, the side marker lights and front lamps light with the parking lights. It's interesting how different countries have differnt laws about car illumination. Its going to be tough to do this work in the cold rain.... |

fyi, only one clip (located at the top center of the headlamp) hooks the rubber surround to the headlamp. the rest of the clips simply hook the glass to the housing (even though it doesn't need it). the rubber surround is glued on the glass by the factory. That explains why the clips dont align! they only fit on one way too. so maybe u just gotta rotate them around until they sit nicely. I suppose I will give it a try this weekend.......they sure like to slip off regardless of what position they are in. lol Do you think if I buy new ones they will fit looser (the older rubber shrank or became less flexible??) |

I was wondering if anyone knew the OEM mode of operation for the JDM low beam lamps "City Lamps"? I think thats what they call them, lol. The small bulbs in the main low beam housing with the actual low beams in JDM headlights without the projector bulbs. I need to wire up my JDM lamps, but would like to know what the OEM way they operate. Are they like daytime running lamps? on with the marker lights? ? Thanks! |

Is there a good guide or picture that shows how those darn rubber rings go on the lights and what clips hold them? I believe a see a right and left side so I think I have the right ring on each headlight, but the don't line up with the all the clips. |

Thread revival So I understand the whole concept here, but I don't have the HID on my Celica, I have the JDM "el cheapo"version: My High beams are perfect, but the low beams have somewhat dull reflectors. Has anyone modified this type of headlight? I'm a bit afraid to take them apart, but maybe I can polish the reflectoror and maybe made the same alignment mod for the headlights? |

Just got back from the garage. My car was in the booth. It had been painted and just sitting there doing what newly painted cars do..lol ...cure? harden? but wait til you see the color on this baby. I was REALLY impressed with the work from what I saw. It will be finished tomorrow, then I will have to assemble it back together after I wire in my new lights. Then I have to get it inspected.... I had almost forgotten how much I loved this color. I will really need to buff and clean the rest of the car to match this new front end. The garage says they checked and it matches the rest of the car, but I've got years of wax and dust that I will strip off to bring back to a like new shine. Shame there are a few paint chips here and there.....makes me want to get them all fixed.....but I'm broke after this car is done. I'm going to cry the first stone chip this front end gets...... |

The headlight disassembly is a bit intimidating but really isn't supposed to be too hard. Here's the writeup: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=66367 If at all possible, it would be best to use the USDM lenses, but it shouldn't be bad if one of the USDM lenses is smashed. The JDM highlights flick the light up like this: (Note: This picture is from the projector cutoff, but all JDM headlights flick up like this.) It's annoying to oncoming drivers but not terrible as long as you aren't using HID's. But if you take apart all four headlights, you can mix and match the best pieces from each. Well I have 2 good USDM lenses. The entire LH headlight is perfect. The RH has all 3 tabs boken. I guess thay can be taken apart and used as parts. The JDM set I bought has the extra lamp in them I REALLY wanted to use as DTRL or as a light glow when not fully dark but the reflecotrs are a bit worn. (Love to see if I can redip them) I'll have to read the link and see what can be done..... thanks for the info. |

Ok there is stock mouning holes on the crash bar so all you need is 4 10mm bolts to put them on no need to drill your brand new bumper hmmm, I'll have to give it a real good look. If by crash bar youmean the square aluminum bumper, thenI do not recall seeing any exta holes (aside from the ones I made to install some projector fogs back in 1999.) lol But I really wasn't looking either. Just the holes for the bumper retaining clips... I didn't see OEM fogs on celicas ntil they changed the front bumper..1996? 1997? |

The JDM lights will flick light up into oncoming traffic. Not a big deal, but could be slightly annoying to other drivers. You can also boil a pot of water and stick the headlights in, lens down, to warm up the sealant and pull the lens and housing apart. Then you can use both headlights to make complete lights. What bumper cover did you end up going with? Can you please elaborate on this headlight disassembly? I have so many lamps now. It would be a shame to install dull, faded headlights on an otherwise new front end. Can you link me to instructions or does someone here do this for a decent fee? Maybe if they can come apart I can repair whats bad and make a real nice set or even polish up the reflectors. Original Set: RH Low beam-Perfect RH High Beam- One broken tab LH High Beam-smashed, a few useful internal parts LH Low Beam- Three broken tabs (Can these be fixed??? Spare set LH High Beam-a bit rough but functionhal RH Low Beam-One broken Tab, OK condition JDM Set RH Low beam-adjustment issue (ball and socket joint broken), less than stellar reflector, may have had water in it. RH High Beam- Perfect LH High Beam-Perfect LH Low Beam-less than stellar reflector. RH & LH Fog lights and mounts-Very good to perfect. |

Stock fog light? Well, my 1995 Celica brochure stated my car (GT) came with fog lights, but I never seen a single 95 with OEM fogs. But YES, I am going to attempt to install "OEM" Stock fogs. Here is the picture of the set I bought on eBay. They have a few issues I will like to address, but you can see the fogs. The brackets are a little dirty, but not rusted. I've already wired my car for fogs, just need to mount them. My issues are on less than perfect reflectors on the low beams and a damaged adjustor on one as well as a cracked tab on a high beam. (Not broken off yet) |

I arrived a bit too late to see what I wanted today. I did take a few shots of the progress. Here's my "OEM (used) hood getting sanded and primed. They tell me it will be painted tomorrow. The bodyshop manager lifting up the covers so I can take a peek at my new support and all the new Bright Iris Pearl paint! (Just the other day these parts we black and not even welded on. I went with an NON-OEM bumber cover (The only non-toyota part aside from the windshield.) the quality and flexability look pretty good. I hope it fits properly. I'll be a bit peeved if it looks like poo. It gets painted tommorow as well in a different booth. Should be ready to go home Wednesday.....then I have to finish the detail work.....headlights and wiring for the JDM "City lights". I have a few concerns about paint match and a few surface rust spots I noticed on the hood latch. I cant see them now, but I was told they were sanded and painted. I sure hope thats enough to keep it from rusting out in the future..... |

great to have another purple celica in the mix! Looked how mine did when I had first got her Quite an interesting story in pictures you have. I think we all at some point go thru stages. My car is pretty much stock now, well at least OEM. I have 16" 7th Gen rims I sometimes put on, and I've had a Kendwood GPS unit in there as well with a backup camera. My Radio now is Toyota OEM, but a newer double din than what came with my car. I've never been a speed demon. I guess it because I'm old. lol How hard was it to install the Fogs? I've scored a set, (White lens) but am waiting for my car to come back Wednesday from the shop to see about installing them. Looks like you can pretty much line them up in the openings and mark the holes in the bumper and just drill and install with self tapping bolts....right? |
