depends, the 1mz is gonna give you instant power and torque from idle that the 7agte is never going to do, but youll have a harder time reaching 300hp.

personally, id go for the 1mz, if youre happy to try and sort out the driveline, that way you'd be creating something rare and special (a v6 celica) and very driveable. what i mean is, if you parked two celicas next to each other, and opened the hoods, and said, one has a 7agte hybrid and the other has a 1mzfe conversion, id go look at the 1mzfe first

but thats just me

well i got brave enough to take it for a drive

it dissapears sorta at higher rpms like 4-5k (and below 1k rpm)
the performance symptoms it is showing is the same problem i had before (missing, surging, pulling back) but MUCH worse - i was hoping was an ignition problem which i havent had time to fix yet

no check engine light, but i will pull the codes (there was a 23 and a 41 in there before from god knows how long ago)
cant see any smoke from where i sit (i did try) but the fumes smell much worse at idle.

at the end of the drive the ticking noise went away ALMOST completely - but the performance remained terrible.

hey guys

i wondered if someone could help me with a problem im having with the GT4 (gen3 3sgte)

i noticed yesterday afternoon that it was making some uncharacteristic ticking/rattling type noises as i drove home - faint, but loud enough to hear from the cabin, and only under load at low rpms.

just now, i went out and started it up, and at low revs, as i play with the throttle, it is making a noise that sounds like if you were to tap the bottom of an empty tin with a key - it makes this sound just over 1k rpm (so not at idle) and it gets higher pitched and more frequent as engine rpm's increase. its scaring me and i dont want to drive it till i figure out whats going on (for fear of making it worse).

i cant quite identify where the sound is coming from - but it seems to be anywhere around the top of the motor.

any ideas? if you need more info ill do what i can.

PS. i tried to make a sound file with my camera, but the noise which is clearly audible over the background to my ears, gets drowned out completely on the camera. *shrug

bumps are indeed headlight sprayers - im using them too smile.gif at work it is so dusty the car quickly starts looking 'rally spec' due to dirt

those headlights are standard for 6g celicas here. didnt know they were anything special smile.gif

man, crazy ass toyota - seems as tho that 500ml chamber is like a little uh 'primer' tank or something, maybe intended so the whole volume of water for the IC spray wouldnt be heat soaked all at once by having it in the engine bay?

sounds like the simplest thing to do by far would be to get an external washer pump and connect it between the window sprayer tank and the IC spray line and ignore all the rest of it

on my car, underneath the bonnet is covered with insulation, and there is a plastic sheild that is in between the vent and the insulation but set forward slightly, so what happens is, if any water drips on the insulation and doesnt get absorbed or evaporated straight away, it just runs off onto the plastic sheild, which channels all the water to the front of the hood and it runs out down near the radiator.

not to mention, it keeps the engine clean from dust and dirt and anything else that could fall through an open vent. it still vents heat with the insulation in place, but most of it is vented out of the rear vents.
