Ha. Remember when we ran that red GT down to invite him? I also think Derek (with the MR2) is working at some exhaust shop in Monroe now but he wrecked his 2 a while back, he wouldn't sell it to me for a swap frown.gif

I have a SRT6 now but would be happy to make a meet.

There was a hint of truth to the 3k change but it was based on early oil and only applied to 10w-40. It also only mattered in certain vehicles but it was adopted as the norm because of how common 10w-40 became. It's currently a scam for lube shops to sell more oil and no modern vehicle requires a change at 3000 miles.

IMO the 2 is a great car with a lot of potential but you can go as far as shoving an LS motor into the MX-5. The aftermarket following will be around for much longer on the 5 which comes in handy if you need to replace things or upgrade.

Another good option in a similar league as the MX-5 is the first gen RX-7. They're cheap (I got mine for $400), easily modded, have a similar power/weight ratio, and have a decent aftermarket (nothing like the MX-5 though).

My srt6 requires 0w-40 and recommends mobil 1. I guess I shouldn't feel so bad about the $75 oil changes now.

BTW I wouldn't waste the time or money on anything more than basic oil (or high mileage equivalent) in the celi unless you're turbo'd or supercharged.

Hanyo is correct about synthetic though, it does have a higher change rating. My car says 7000. As for the 3k miles, that was a scam cooked up by oil companies back when cars still ran on leaded. My trailblazer has so far gone 24k miles since the last change and not a single problem, although I wouldn't push a performance engine to that extreme.

I would go for it. I'll always think the Celica has a better style but it's hard to beat a RWD 2 seater in sheer fun, but that's exactly what they are built for.

It's a rebadged Mercedes SLK 32 AMG smile.gif The only thing Chrysler about it are the badges. Even the body is made by Karrman which is in the process of being bought by VW iirc. I have the SRT-6 version which has 330hp advertised but actually has 350 since Chrysler didn't want it to eat SLK sales. Basically it's a 13 second car that can pull .90 range on the skidpad.

So with that said, no offense taken I wouldn't own an actual Chrysler either smile.gif

I'm not sure if this is inappropriate for this thread but I just got my car back from a mechanic and the idiot lost my rear mount bolt, anyone know a retailer that has a replacement or would I be stuck searching junk yards?

I don't understand why people cant comprehend the simple fact that their local toyota dealer can get them every nut, bolt and replacement part for the car.
And yes, this is the wrong thread for this.

I fully comprehend that, they also charge 3-4 times as much as an aftermarket dealer (like ARP if they carried them).

For the people fighting about the 305, um yeah the 305 can be a beast

^^^this car, and this one runs mid 8's in the 1/8th.

As for a Monte Carlo, if it had a carbed 305 and was basically stock then yeah I would slap anyone with even a stock 5SFE MR2 or Celica that couldn't take one, in fact I would lay money on a 7AFE car if it's a '70's Monte.

The only reason some people wont consider a Z06 exptic is because it's American, go to Germany and see how many Z06's you find, the Z06 is either an exotic or an exotic killer. The Viper is classified as an exotic and in the area I live in (pop around 10,000) I can find about 5, there's less Celica's in this area than Vipers. Point is you can't classify an exotic by production numbers and demographics, only around 800,000 RX-7s were built since 1978 but they aren't exotic, even though for a worldwide market spanning over a 20 year period that is very low. If you do want to get technical special editions aren't exactly exotics since they're based on a more widely produced base, but don't tell that to SL65 owners. It's hard to classify an exotic, it used to be a very expensive racecar for the road, but now certain exotics such as Porsche, Maserati, and even Lotus are starting to become more open so that they can sell more cars, since most of the companies had to sell to larger companies like VW, Ford, etc. I think you'll be seeing Aston Martin SUV's, Ferrari sedans, etc. come rolling of the design table and into the showroom floor (unless gas stays the same, then it'll be Ferrari compacts).

Well this is a perfect example of how the military and their gear is run. It was like that when I was in. If you lost something you had to pay for a new one. There is a saying "There is only one theif in the Marine Corps, everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back" or "gear adrift is a gift." Meaning you gotta watch your stuff cause it costs $$ to buy a new helmet or flak jacket or gas mask. Plus people want to keep stuff as a souveneir. A buddy of mine lost one of his sheets to his bed and had to buy a new one.

This incident Im sure happened many times before. This time it finally made the paper.

I remember those days we called it "acquiring gear" instead of theft. If you left it in the field that would be one thing, but this is just wrong.

I would like to bring a car that most considers a true sports car, the Corvette, it's 2 door, 2 seat, RWD, handles good for it's weight, runs on premium, and in all it's a true sports car, one problem though is that the 1984 Vette came with a dual throttle body Crossfire 350 that only produced 205 horsepower, now this is a true sports car design yet even a 130hp Celica GT can give it a good run on the track. It's a matter of opinion and even though the '84 was lacking on power it didn't make it any less a sports car, but motor isn't everything.

Also insurance isn't the best judge, I had a '96 Mustang vert V6 that had higher premiums than a Viper, insurance uses a points scale based on different stats (amount of wrecks, vehicle thefts, crash ratings, etc.) . The SN-95 convertible had one of the worst crash ratings for a vert, it also was a lot more common meaning they're in more wrecks, then the Mustang is one of the most stolen vehicles in the US. Insurance doesn't base anything on power now, it's to difficult since you could have a V8 with 145hp and a 4 cylinder with 230hp.

I remember a big debate a while back about the Celica being a sports car, well it's considered a Japanese sports car by the Wikipedia. Either way it's opinion but IMO it is seeing as it's somewhat light, good maneuverability, good looks, and can have good performance.

You gotta ask yoursef... is it worth the $$? Wouldn't it be money better spent on another / new car?

Reason why I say this is from personal experience. My first creation was this. It could have had a 3S-GTE... but
1) it's damn expensive
2) you won't be able to recoup the costs when you sell the car
3) you may as well buy a new car for the money.

As with the Corolla, the Celica isn't exactly a high-model car - in fact it's Toyota's cheapest sports car. Is it really worth putting so much money, time, effort into an effectively entry-level car?

Just my 2c.

I already have two RWD cars and i'm still doing this, that means you missed the point, expensive isn't the issue my insurance is expensive. A new car would be nice but what's the point I have an 18 year old car that will run with a brand new Mustang easily, it's the fact of doing it. It'll be expensive but since i'm looking into GM parts for fitment that will cut cost down dramatically and it'll still be "in the family" since GM and Toyota are pretty close, like I said there was the Toyota Cavalier, then the more recent Vibe/Matrix. Most enthusiest don't get what they paid and I don't care because I drive them until the wheels fall off that's the point in doing it, unless it's a classic muscle car then you might get what you paid for. Besides everytime someone buys a Lexus they're thowing money away, why buy an IS when an Altezze is like 8 thousand cheaper and the motor is just as good with two less cylinders.

But is it the stock chassis or a tube chassis, if it's tube it doesn't count.

They may have more going into production but who knows the Charger looked pretty cool until Dodge decided they needed a place to put the groceries and kids, the Charger is nothing more than a new Intrepid. IMO they should have left the Charger dead, it derserves better than a family sedan and even the SRT-8 isn't worth it, spend a little more and get the new Z06, can't beat a $60,000 car that walked on a 600hp Ford GT and the new Viper Coupe.
