the best HP swap would deffinently be a 3rd or 4th gen 3s-gte (260hp t/c, fully upgradable). but cost wise you're fucT. parts are expensive and not readilly availlable in the US. and i wouldn't knock the 4a if i was you. do some research and you'll see why. i've heard of old corolla gts' taking out 5.0s. you can do individual carbs per cylinder, complete aftermarket support, they are becoming really popular again, and the 20v's are the first toyota engine to intigrate VVT...man there's so much ****t you can do to these bad boys. i want one |

it can be done, but i wouldn't recomend doing it yourself unless you've had eperience in this sort of thing. im told the head drops right on, but there are other problems to be delt with. like: you need a belt that fits properly which i believe is from a porsche 944 or 924, i remember hearing that the valves don't line up perfectly, there is no ECU to control the moster, and i know there is more. plus if your planning to boost the 7a block is very weak, so you'll need custom rods, forged pistons, completely customed turbo/super C, and even more problems with the ECU. you can do it though, i read about an aussie that dropped his 20v custom turbo'ed blacktop monstrosity into an MR2. he was making 300hp at 7500rpms...that's some good shat! keep in mind this was his job and no doubt spent over 5 grand with his discounts making this beast. i'd set my dreams on something more costworthy...i'd drop in a whole 4a-gze. you'd be pushing 180 stock, tons of aftermarket support, a good strong block with mountains of potential. do the right thing buddy but seriously, good luck on whatever you decide... |

i'd go with the 4a-gze...it comes with boost, huge after market support, isn't half as costly as a 3s-gte, parts are easier to come by (than a 3s), and it looks so sweat under the hood..its what should have been i'm sure everyone knows the 3s is the ****..it goes pretty much without saying. but i like to try to stay within my limits. i mean if we all had the cash flow to do what we really wanted..we probably wouldn't even be driving a celica...well, maybe a AWD celica, but the words Supra, NSX, 300zx TT or 350Z, Audi 1.8 T, M3, 3000GT so on and so forth come to mind. don't get me wrong, i luv the celica with all her agressive looks and mad potential, but it really does take a lot of time, cash, and frustration to tap into that mad potential. can you feel me? i'm just saying, take the celica for what it is, a fun mofo'n car. if you have dreams of mad HP and super car status go for a car thats readilly capable of it...or be prepared for the dedication of a long costly journey of frustrasion...Amen |

this kit does nothing for me...the spoiler is the only thing worth keeping. i think i'd rather leave my car stock than have this kit. i keep telling people to stop playing with fiberglass after smoking crack. |

i know this doesn't really answer your question but tanabe makes a universal racing medallion now. i have one with 2.25" custom pipes and i love. awesome sound..very deep..sounds killer wound up. i've had so many compliments on how it sounds. and yes i do prefer the look of the tanabe over the greddy. i'm not knocking the greddy sp at all. i'm told its a great cat back..but its expensive and always on back order. |

the engine is supposed to run a high idle when its cold. there's actually a name for the program with in the ECU that does this, but i forgot it (stupid). but 1500-2000rpms is really high. mine goes up to 1400rpms on a really cold day. i'll try to find out what toyota calls this automatic idle adjust again. |

my temp gauge is good, and i always keep an eye on it. oil light never comes on, fuse is good. maybe my bulb is bad cause i have let it get pretty low twice on accident. and i can't stop driving hard..its just way too much fun to drop her into 3rd and smoke that stupid farkin stratus with the unsightly alluminum wing and 4" tail pipe. hehe |

sup fella's..when you guys run your celi hard do you get kind of a funky smell after 4 grand? i do, i always thought that was just the engine really heating up. but now i'm thinking i might be burning mad oil after 4 grand. oil levels stay fine unless i run it hard on a regular basis. and i know some oil will burn up. but mine seems to be a ridiculous amount. i don't know..maybe its just my imagination. but 10w40 redline shouldn't burn up like this. just thought i'd see if any of you notice the same type of things. |
