Changed out the distributor today, still no love. Every part has been changed now. I tested for spark by pulling a plug and watching while someone cranked the engine. I know it's not ideal to turn it over without a plug in the cylinder, but I don't have an extra plug hanging around. I have confirmed that the coil is receiving 12.5v with the key in the on position. The distributor came with a coil wire, so that got changed too. The pickup tests fine. What other wires should I test? Sorry for the basic questions, but an electrician, I ain't. |

Yeah, I was trying to avoid that. $300 at the parts store. $100 at the local yard. I guess I'll suck it up and get the junk yard replacement tomorrow and give it a try. |

So, I am stymied. My '96 ST died in the cold in Boston overnight bt 1 and 2 January. The overnight temps were -20 F, give or take. I was running errands the evening of the first, and it seemed to be running fine. The morning of the 2nd she would crank and crank, but not catch. I have since moved to NC where I have a garage and temps in the 40s. I have confirmed she isn't getting a spark or maybe an occasional weak one. I have replaced: distributor cap and rotor, battery, coil, and igniter. Still no love. I am a decent home mechanic, but I can't read wiring diagrams. Where to go from here? *bangs head against desk* |
