Hey guys, by 25th Anniversary Celica just had a bit of an argument with a barrier and I'm looking to buy a new front bumper to repair the damage.

I'm in the west midlands (UK) and would prefer to pick it up if at all possible.

Alternatively if anybody knows somewhere I could order one from that wasn't extortionately priced, that'd be great.

Cheers

QUOTE (Box @ Aug 17, 2015 - 7:58 PM) *
Before you change the oil do a piston soak with Seafoam or even an oil flush and then run it as recommended after it sits for at least 24 hours to make sure everything has creeped past the rings. Pour it equally between all four cylinders.

You mean do that, and then do an oil change I imagine? Or do that, see if it fixes it...then do the oil change regardless..that way I'd know if that fixed it?

Thanks for the pointers, I'll start with compression test and work from there.

Currently sat at 116k and has been the same since I got it (about 107k). No smoke even on cold start, getting about 35mpg which specs say is spot on. Performance seems fine and everything else like that..just a nuisance having to top up all the time rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the responses guys. As with Aleph, I dont get any leakage or smoke, just the oil disappears. My last celica died of the death knock, which I think came mainly as a result of prolonged low oil pressure (before I owned it - rattled when i got it but didnt know what the problem was at the time). I don't want the same to happen to this one.

I'm in the UK, and am using Catrol GTX 10w40 (as recommended by Halfords). I'll do a full O&F change next weekend to see if it helps, though one was done just before I bought it about 8 months ago.

I'll share my results.

Cheers

I heard that gen 6s are notorious for burning through oil when I got my last one. Is there anything that can be done to improve my oil consumption?

I do about 70 miles a day motorway driving, and the last thing I want is low oil pressure because I forgot to check it this morning.

Cheers

I've just recently fitted a standard powr aerial from my old '95 Celica to my "new" '97 Celica. The owner before me had fitted a static aerial before I bought it, which got snapped off and was very dangerous, so I fitted the one I took out of the last one before scrapping it (inconsiderate dicks crashing into parked cars!)

Anyway, all cables and power is connected, I've tested the plug going into the aerial and it has 1 constant live and 2 or 3 ignition live, so I know power is getting to it. When I turn on the radio, nothing happens. Theres no sound of a motor "trying" to work or anything, it's as though the aerial doesnt recognise that the radio is on?

This worked in the old car before I took it out - any ideas what I may have missed? There is also a ranodm green switch in my dash that's not connected to anything, but the guy said it was to do with the aerial (?).

Cheers

As some cowardly, inconsiderate "so and so" had decided to smash into th once good side of the car, I believe I am now stuck with the option of breaking for parts.

All parts available - will create a new topic should I need to.

Thanks

I've actually found that in the UK, they're not.

I've found somewhere that sells them, just want to make sure I don't pay (for example) £500 for a £50 part.

Cheers

Sorry Smaay - getting a picture of it is pretty awkward while its not over the pit.

Fortunately, richee is spot on! Thanks so much. How muhc should I expect to pay for one of these? (so I know I'm not getting ripped off).

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I've got a '97 Celica that has sprung a blow in the middle of the exhaust - would anybody be able to identifiy which part it is so I know what I'm looking to buy?

It looks like a capsule shaped piece that's wrapped in some sort of mesh? About the size of a rugby ball.

Obviously because I don't know what part it is, I can't find a picture of it to post tongue.gif

Thanks

A runner before being taken off the road, my old Green/Turquoise Celica is up for sale for spares or repair.

I feel this car is too good to be stripped and scrapped, so would love for it to go to someone who will get it back on the road.

The engine warning light comes on when the car gets to temperature, and causes the car to go into limp mode. I have error checked and it reads as 'Knock Sensor'. There is a knocking sound from within the engine, which leads me to believe this is not just the sensor that has gone. Other than this the car was a great runner at ~140k miles.

Other slight issues with the car include a scrape down the back N/S wing (there when I bought it) and a dent in the N/S front wing (from a coward in a Halfords car park!). The only key does not open the boot, but the lever inside has always done the job - I imagine locks were changed before I acquired it. Also the outer edges of the front seats have frayed, and the parcel shelf sits loose due to the small clips being missing (a 50p purchase?).

All electric windows and sunroof worked before I took the car off the road back in October, along with all lights (front and rear).

No MOT and currently SORN - Recommend trailer but is drivable.

I am looking for offers in the region of £500 and I am unable to deliver (unless given the right offer). Happy for people to come and take a look.
