QUOTE(Bigmeanbulldog55 @ Mar 1, 2007 - 12:58 PM) For an auto trans in a 99, those prices are too hateful. Manuals cost less, but the labor putting it in is always what kills. It's really not too hard to do. You'll need a helper, jack stands, a good jack, and a nice set of tools and you can get it done. It'll take awhile. You can go buy a Hanes Manual for the Celica, and it will give you step by step insteructions on how to change one. Any can with a 5sfe, the 2.2 liter Toyota motor, will have the same auto. Unfortunately, that's just Celica's and Camry's. But, there are a lot of Camry's with autos. Make sure you get one from a 96 or newer car, to make sure it wires up okay. I'm not sure if there is a difference in the wiring from OBD1 to OBD2 in the transmission, but it's a better safe than sorry kind of deal. Good luck. Already have the hanes, so thats one step down. I also have access to a good garage and tools, so theres another major step, and a mechanic to help. woot. Thanks for the advice, ill go searching for a camry to rip apart. |

Well, long story short, Ive got a problem with my current transmission that can't realistically be fixed without changing it into a new housing, or just getting a new transmission. What are my options on transmissions? what transmissions are roughly compatible with a more or less stock 99 celica, and what can get me the best bang for the buck, performance wise, in an auto ( if thats even possible ). If not, what cars have the same tranny's, so i could just get a pull from a car here? For reference my toyota dealer wants 900 for a used tranny, and 700 to install it, and im aiming to spend quite a bit less than that, if at all possible. |

QUOTE(snapshotgt @ May 11, 2006 - 2:56 PM) Yes, you can get LEDs to to spread the light properly. They are called refractor LEDs. I have them in my gauges, and look great, they also match all my other interior lights that are blue. The link that chanh provides also shows another non-LED option, they are called Polarg bulbs, but they do come at a price. ~snap At his suggestion, I got a set of Blue Refractor LEDS ( http://www.vleds.com/ or ebay ), and I am VERY impressed. I will try and post a picture of my gauges later, if i can |

I have reason to believe the motor mount has been replaced, anyway. Oh well, if it causes significant problems, its all warrantied. |

Ok, having had almost every little easily repairable cosmetic thing fixed, and having the CEL fixed ( Looked around, and lo, the MAF was actually UNPLUGGED. . Overall the car is running a lot better, but it still vibrates an awful lot when idle ( not when in motion, so much ), is this normal or is something off? |

QUOTE(OOBE @ Apr 23, 2006 - 7:18 PM) Mustang GT for: Power, Aftermarket... Celica for: Reliability, fuel economy, looks, rareness I am talking stock for stock. You can always slap a turbo on the Celica or swap a better engine and be faster, but it'll take a lot of money. The Mustang will be faster and easier to mod in terms of aftermarket parts, but it's not as reliable, it burns more gas, and it's more common. I am not biased, but since I've owned both cars, hands down...I'd pick the Celica. Having owned a fox body mustang ( 91 ), and now a celica GT ( 99 ), the celica is hands down a more fun car to drive. The newer mustangs are pretty nice, but I'd still take my celica over one, personally. As stated, mustangs are commonplace, celicas not so much. I've seen three since ive bought my car a few weeks ago, and ive been looking. |

QUOTE(brianforster @ Apr 21, 2006 - 12:26 PM) there is a bunch of threads about changing to leds, a lot of people experience blotchy lighting, you should find someone that has the color/style that you want and ask them exactly what leds they used, there seems to be a LOT of variation. my lighting with standard LEDs is fine, if not dark. So im going to try and find some brighter bulbs. Its not hard to get the cluster out, so i dont see it as a big deal..just unscrew and pull it out *shrug* |

I took out my airbag sensor light since the car's airbags have gone off previously and the light bugged me. Other then that the bulbs are easy to get at. Ok, new question then. What size bulbs do i need, and where do i buy them? Radio shack and 3 auto parts stores say they dont carry them. |

WE IN THE STATES ARE NOT USED TO PAYING THIS MUCH!!! Stop griping to us about our complaining when we're used to a certain quality of life, and when gas prices take a 50% hike in a matter of a month, that changes what we're used to. You guys overseas are used to paying the high prices, and those high prices are largely in reason to the amount of taxes on them. That said, The oil companies are feeling us out to see what we're willing to pay. There's absolutely no valid reason for how our gas prices have been raising recently. I've seen plenty of excuses thrown out, but no real reasons. I personally believe we need federal regulation of the petroleum industry here in the states to keep this incessant price gouging going. It's already being looked at in the natural gas sector, so hopefully it's only a matter of time before it hits the oil compaines too. Just give it a few more weeks until the oil companies start posting their rather large profits again and the government will start turning an eye towards them and they'll back off like what happened last fall. ok lets all go back to ECONOMICS 101... gas just like anyother world commodity has a DEMAND and a SUPPLY now with prices on the "Y" axis and quantity on the "X" axis (just like every other supply and demand graph) the BLACK lines are your base graph D=demand S= Supply now when we demand more gas the Demand curve shifts UP (meaning we want more gas aka using more) so this new increase in demand is our redline... NOTICE demand goes up SUPPLY gets less... why? because your using more DUH! what happens when you demand more and use it up the PRICE goes up! as you can see in the new position on the red line so stop your stupid ignorant bitching about the government and greedy gas station owners.... if you want prices to go down... STOP USING GAS thus the DEMAND goes down SUPPLY increases and PRICES FALL ~class dismissed Let's go back to class then. Demand doesn't go up 50% in a single month. the cheapest i've bought premium for my turbo is 2.33$ in the last year or so so we'll use that saying that its 3.00$ at highest right now thats a 23% increase in price.....now that does not reflect the ACTUAL increase in demand but 23% is not that much...and thats on the EXTREMES thats actually a 31.3% increase. QUOTE(dstrbcelica @ Apr 20, 2006 - 3:03 PM) it's 2.79 for 87 octane. ::sigh:: my jeep gets 16.9 miles per gallon. damn i miss my celica. -dstrb my jeep got about 14... thats why i bought a celica. lol.
