Hello good people!

Long time reader but now very first post!
So, recently I did a gen 3 3SGTE from a 94 Celica ST205 GT4 WRC conversion on my 97' Toyota Carina GT (had a beams redtop first, 4age silvertop before that). Drove it for a month, troubleshooted a few problems with the engine. A week ago I opened the oil pan to check/clean. After reinstalling it I started up my car, ran fine for a minute and then shut down on its own. I tried starting her up and she started very hesitantly, barely idling. Black smoke was coming out and it was not revving past 3-3.2k and was backfiring at 3k rpm as if I had an antilag system. I checked the plugs and they were BLACK! My engine was dumping fuel like there is no tomorrow! I then checked the injectors to see if they were stuck open but they were fine. I reinstalled the injectors back in place and changed the fuel pressure regulator with an aftermarket tomei unit. Set the fuel pressure at 2.5 kg/cm3 and replaced the plug wires and the spark plugs (the car was sitting for 3 days now). I started her up and she ran fine for half a day and then there was it again. She again started to dump fuel. I checked the MAP sensor, it was fine. Tried disconnecting the MAP sensor connection to see if there was any fault in the MAP sensor wiring but the car couldnt idle but could rev freely above 3K rpm.

The car runs fine if I let it sit overnight, then when I start her up in the morning she runs fine for about 10-15mins and then starts dumping fuel again. Thinking its an ECU related problem, I had a spare MR2 ECU with me, when the car started dumping fuel again, I tried swapping the ECU and it ran fine with the MR2 ECU. Drove it for a while, then tried swapping the ECU again with my original one, and it also worked fine!! kindasad.gif I dont know if it is an ECU fault or what. This problem is killing me! Seems like the longer I let the car rest, the longer it runs laugh.gif

PS: I don't think I have any injector resistors or fuel pump resistor/relay in the car (A shop did the wiring for me). It has OEM 540CC injectors, aftermarket fuel pressure regulator, OEM fuel pump and an FMIC (made a resistor circuit on the connection of the chargecooler to duplicate the functions of the chargecooler water pump to remove error code 54). Other than that everything else is stock. Fuel pressure is set to 2.2 kg/cm3 but I noticed the fuel pressure go upto 3 kg/cm3 when the car starts dumping fuel.

Someone please shed some light in this issue, this is driving me nuts! Any help will be highly appreciated! Thanks! smile.gif

2.5 seems to be the best option.

Why?

Just because.

There are plenty threads discussing exhaust diameter differences and pro's/con's

I was just asking because my current piping is 2.5 but it is in bitter condition. Need to do the piping again. I have a 3inch 3SGTE fresh piping laying around, so if the 3 inch does good for the Beams I will go for it or else I will stick to 2.5. Asking in terms of back pressure..

Hello guys!
I was wondering what size exaust piping will I go for in Beams 3SGE Redtop, 2.5 inch or 3 inch piping?

Please mention pros/cons for going for a 3inch piping.
Thanks! biggrin.gif

MAF sensor is same as 1mzfe.

Yes, I am using that but need the piping and air cleaner box. I did the conversion in my '98 Toyota Carina GT.
