Pretty sure my blower motor resistor (and or maybe relay) went out. I found a 91-94 tercel/paseo blower resistor that looks similar on ebay for $10 as opposed to the $70 advanced auto wants to charge me. Would this work?? heres the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-...d=p4506.c0.m245 |

hey does anybody have a v belt diagram for a 97 st (7afe) by looking at the car I can see the basic routing of the 3 belts, i got the alternator belt changed however I still need to change the power steering pump belt and the a/c compressor belt. Im having a really hard time finding the tensioners for each of these. |

Didn't worry about it till the other day when i was coming home in a rainstorm with my windows fogged up like a cypress hill concert. I don't care about A/C although it would be nice.... I just need my defrosters and heat for our cold MD winters. The unit lights up and switches between vents, and the rear defrosters still work. The fuses all check out, it just refuses to blow air. Occasionally it will work but not for long. Im hoping its the control unit, it seems easy enough to replace although there is a very taught very difficult line to remove that runs out the back of the unit (not the harness) Im hoping its not the cooling unit behind the glovebox... not brave enough to mess with that yet. Any ideas of what could be wrong... anybody have this happen before?? |

I tightened up the e-brake a couple days ago and that didn't solve the problem (although im glad I adjusted them given I was at a good 13 clicks before i reached the top) Rear sway bar bushings sounds like it might be the problem its not a wheel bearing i dont think and it may possibly be a bad strut although the sound is on both sides of the rear. Ill keep posted thanks 4 the help |

My 95 gt is making really loud banging noises... like somethings loose almost when I go over the slightest of bumps. The problem is especially bad at low speeds. Had the problem since I bought the car thinking it was a bad strut but never got around to replacing it. Since I've had the car 3 years or so I can notice it progressively worsening over time. Had a mechanic briefly look at it on the ground he said it didn't feel like shocks/struts were bad. Could it be a wheel bearing. Im about to go out and spin the wheels and listen for any noise but this sounds and feels like I almost have no rear shocks at all. Any suggestions?? let me know if i need to be more detailed... |

Unfortunantly, im still new to the tuner scene... Though I have gathered a lot of information from this site... as well as fixed a lot of problems on the celica with help from this site and my haynes manual, I know that attempting to complete the swap myself would be the end of running existence for my car..... It's not that I don't believe I will have problems after the swap... The point lagos made about taking a 90's junk yard engine from japan and praying that it will hold up for the 15-20k miles I put on the car yearly seems like im asking for too much... Were all on this site for one reason.. cuz we love our celicas!!! I just want to make sure that my $8k is going to the right places... I have never seen, nor experienced a 3sgte or 5sfte in person.... thats why I ask for advice from those who have... From what im gathering.... everybody is saying hell yea its worth it... I just need to be ready for all the **** thats gonna go down afterwards.... thats why I ask for setup opinions...What is the best way to do this right (or as right as possible) the first time |

valid point..... As much as I have read into the mechanics of the swap... I just don't feel confident enough myself performing the swap especially as a dd.... Your probably right in saying the wrx is a better car for my style I would just hate to give up the celica.... I guess there is still yet more thinking to do on the matter thanks everybody for your guys help.. by the way lagos im damn impressed by the ride man nice work... thanks for the help |

"Hey listen, since you want a daily driver, have you considered a beams red top swap. Yes of course its not turbo, but throws better hp than stock. A clip will run you about the same, no FMIC needed, IDK about the gas octane. But i think for a daily driver option its my choice." You know I never thought about that..... in fact I haven't even looked into a beams swap... I really like the mechanics and design of forced induction systems, hence my passion for jdm tuners rather than american muscle. How is the Beams engine as far as parts and upgradability (I know thats not a word but you get my drift) |

Thank you Lagos... that was the answer I was looking to get out of this post... The shop that is doing the swap for me is the shop that I actually work at. Not to say that they won't half ass my car... but for the year and a half that I have worked there it seems to me that the quality of there work is good. Of course im expecting to have some problems with the car, (that brings me back to the second part of my main question.... is a stock turbo car like a wrx a better choice for a perfomance minded dd) But will the problems be frequent enough (weekly, monthly??) to make the common person regret the decision. Obviously lots of people have completed the swap..... is it a decision that is commonly regreted |

Hey... quick Idea for the web page What would everybody think of some kind of chat room As a newb, I think that a chat room would be really helpful. People would be able to have instant responses as well as quicker support to problems. Discussions and debates could be held in open rooms where newb's like me could sit in and maybe learn a thing or 2 just an idea |

Im thinking of the standalone honestly just because I was advised to... Im certainly looking for power but also just as much for reliability.... if a standalone would help the car run better im not concerned spending money... I just don't want to spend unnecessary money... you would pass on the standalone just go with a piggyback? are there any flashing options for the 3rd gen ecu |

One day I can say Im gonna have a bad ass car as my dd then an even more bad ass car as my "weekender" lmao, but for now as a (BROKE ASS!!) college student, im trying to do the best I can to give justice to my celica by outfitting it with a 3sgte... I think I made up my mind, Im really leaning towards this swap I just wanted some opinions from people that have already done the process. Im starting to collect parts of course starting with the clip... I found that vividracing.com has a good ammount of things I need and are willing to work with me for bulk purchases. Im hoping 8k is enough... I know price varies on options but how much around would a project like this be? |

I agree.... and I actually found a 3rd gen front clip shipped to my door for $2,500 To be more specific about costs $2,500 -front clip I work at a shop and don't have time to do the swap myself so they will cut me a deal at $500 for labor looking at about another 2k in the coilovers, tires and the rest of the suspension mods About another thousand in boost gauges, controllers, timers, and maybe a safc II although im unsure about ecu tuning for our celica 500 or so for the transmission upgrades Thats already $6,500 and I know there is a ton of stuff im leaving out My goal is to have a fun car/project while being somewhat financially responsible Im just saying for the lets say I can get 2 or 3 thousand for my car as well as the 8 I have saved up for the 3sgte swap, would I be better off putting a down payment on a wrx or is our celi with the 3s just that worth it? |

Hey guys... Ive been in the 3sgte market now for about three years..... Now that the swap is been becoming more realistic for me financially Im starting to have my doubts about the swap.... I came up with a total of like $8k i need to have in order to do this swap... that includes... vented/slotted rotors and pads and braided steel lines tein ss coilovers st185 front clip or maybe st202 (praying for the WRC) 3" back exhaust and down pipe Clutch electronics including a boost controller and timer as well as a standalone installation and all the other stuff not listed... Though I must say I love my celica is this really worth it...?? A gt4 I would say hell yes.... awd 3sgte in a car as beautiful as the celica is my dream but a fwd 200hp or so celica with a chasis of 190k miles plus on it.... it just doesn't seem like a good bang for the buck Plus I will be using this car for a dd... i dont mind the 93 octane but how much and how often will the routine repairs be.... Will I have to be importing little pieces between japan every other month? Going to school in the mountains of Western MD will the snow and rough conditions be too much for the car?? sorry for all the questions/doubts It's just that I feel for around $8-10k you could build a sweet 240 or buy an older already turbo wrx and be able to build a lot better of a street car. A celica is cosmetically pleasing and the 3sgte is one hell of a powerhouse but the parts are rare and honestly I just don't see as much potential any ideas? |

QUOTE(MaskedMan @ Mar 30, 2008 - 1:09 PM) your ignition coil is on your firewall. Really?? I thought that I had an internal coil that sat right under the distributor attached by 4 screws... thats how it is labeled in my haynes manual |

QUOTE(Bradley @ Mar 24, 2008 - 8:07 PM) update got it starting now it sputters on acceleration and eventually stalls.... distributor cap maybe??? Figured out the problem.... I have a bad ignition coil.... I gapped the plugs at about .30 or so to compensate for the loss of the coil.... looking over this It seems that I am going to have to pull the whole distributor out in order to get to the coil? is this true |

Hey guys, driving back to school today I stopped at a red light, shifted into first starting going again and then bamm!! my engine started to sputand sound like a go-cart. I pulled over lifted up the hood and found my spark plug jammed up into the wire and the wire completely out of the hole. I was able to start the car back up and pull into a parking lot but shortly after that it stalled and I was not able to get it started again (it choked but did not turnover) So what could be my problem. I disconnected the ignition wire from the distributor and am heading to auto zone to get a new plug and wire (if not a whole set) Will this mean I need to replace the engine (finally 3sgte time!! lol) or can I just replace the plug and wire and be ok. Did this upset my timing any Could it be my timing belt snapped? PLEASE HELP!!! PS. I have a 1995 celica gt coupe |
