hello there!
check and see if you're missing the little clip that goes on the clip. The ball and linkage slide onto each other pretty easily, it's the clip that holds it and keeps it from falling out. I'm guessing you're missing that or maybe the plastic is worn away and become too big.

Thanks so much for the reply!! :-)

Ugh...having trouble figuring out how to attach a picture!

Try using this link.. https://ibb.co/f2whBsy for the picture. Yours looks so much nicer and made of metal! Yeah mine has no clips, but I also see that yours has more of the "ridges" to hold the clips than mine does. What do y'all recommend I do?

Thanks!

Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing well! I’ve got a 1996 Celica gt convertible, and I’m having an issue with my shifter. I’ll attach a photo of it, but the little plastic ball on the shifter feels very loose as it slides into the white plastic part of the shifter cable. Am I missing a part here? Because it has come off several times now after shifting and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Thanks for any advise!

Do yourself a favor and buy a factory electrical manual on eBay for $10-15. You will be glad you did if the project you are describing is what you're planning to do.

The 3-pin speed sensor should be same for auto and manual, should just plug right in. The reverse switch you need to tap into the auto harness and run your pigtail off that. Don't remember the colors - that's what I bought the manual for.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, great idea, so I got myself a wiring manual as well. I tapped into the auto harness just as you said and reverse likes working great- thanks! Now I’m going to dive into the wiring manual and start reading, but I just thought I would add that the speed sensors 3 pin plugs are completely different from auto to manual. Even a couple of the colors are different as well!:( hopefully the manual has some decent info on this..I might have to just try a few combinations and hope I
Don’t burn up my speedo.

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and also new to 6th gen celicas (had a 80' Celica before). I've got my first 1996 Celica GT convertible and love it. I am currently finishing swapping to a manual which should make it pretty fun, but also in the process of rebuilding the whole car and putting a custom motor into it.

In regard to wiring, I need some help if anyone knows, in finding which wires (wire colors) are for the tachometer pulsing wire which goes to the tach gauge, the two wires that go to the reversing switch, and the 3 wires that connect to the speed sensor. I don't wanna go into huge detail why I need these yet, but if anyone has this info it would absolutely make my week.

Thanks so much!

Hello all,

This is my first time on this forum, so I’m still getting used to it all and still learning of course...

I got a 96’ Celica GT convertible and I love it, but unfortunately it’s an automatic and for my future project with it, I need it to be manual. So I’m converting to manual, and got/almost have all of the parts I need EXCEPT the shifter cables. I’ve been calling junk yards everywhere and checking car-part.com but most of these cars were crushed with the shifter cables in them.

My question is does anyone know where I can get some, or does anyone know what cars have the same shifter cables and will be compatible? I have the 5SFE engine so it’s thw 2.2L and I believe they are different cables from the 1.8L.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
