yeah the thermostat can fail either open or closed, if it fails open then coolant is always flowing through the radiator and if its cold out your stuff will never get hot so you'll never have heat. if it fails closed coolant never goes to the radiator and your stuff will overheat. i think i had to change mine at somewhere around 80k, i still had heat somewhat just not as hot as it should've been. the moral of the story is notice whether the car still coming up to normal temp, if its staying low then i would say definitely the tstat. on the 7a its toward the right (facing the engine) and towards the top, and its got a big hose running into it. its real easy to get to, no big deal. i intended to write some steps on how to change it but my comp battery is dead and its about to cut off on me. but i can later tonight if anyone wants, i could also post a pic of exactly where the tstat is... later. |

i see... so then I need a different alignment tool correct? because the one i have is designed to fit into the bearing so it doesnt really work without it. |

a few years back i took my 94 st from va to ca and back. before i left i checked the above stated stuff, only problem i had was my water pump went out on the way back, but i dont think you can really look at them and tell they're about to fail... but if your car has a lot of miles on it and you've never put one on it... |

so im putting a clutch in my 94 st (7afe). my question is about the pilot bearing (i believe its called), i dont see any way that the one that came in the kit i got (exedy kty18) is going to fit in the end of the crank, its way too big, and if it wont fit, that renders my clutch alignment tool useless... i also understand that apparently the old one should still be in there (i never took it out) but its not, theres no old bearing or any pieces that look like they used to be a bearing. so i dont know if they gave me the wrong bearing, or if this car doesnt use a pilot bearing, in which case they gave me the wrong alignment tool, or if im doing it wrong all together?? also, the pilot bearing does not fit on the input shaft in any way shape or form, and the input shaft doesnt have the little skinny piece on the end like the alignment tool does. (isnt the alignment tool supposed to mimic the input shaft?) thanks a lot for any help. |

So I’m about to put a clutch in my bone stock 94 st (my first clutch install), and have a few questions. First of all: From what I’ve read on the site I’ll probably go with an exedy oem, and just get my existing flywheel machined. Also, I have the Haynes manual for the car as well as the pdfs from celicatech to guide me. Question 1: What else should be done while everything is taken apart? I know rear main, and axle seals, is there anything else? Question 2: Are there any special tools that are necessary or will make the job easier/faster? Question 3: How high does the car need to be jacked up to have clearance to get the transmission out? I saw in the “auto to manual swap” how to it says 2.5ft for the rear and 3ft for the front, I have jack stands but they don’t even begin to approach that height, so I don’t know if this measurement is not made from the bottom of the stand to the top or if I just need taller jack stands… Basically I’m concerned with safety; it seems like the car will become less stable the higher it is, so I don’t want it any higher than it has to be… I’m pretty much looking for the best advice on how to do the job without the car falling on me and terminating my life force. Thanks for any help. This site is bad ass by the way. |

on the 7afe? ive got 3. one drives the water pump and alternator, one goes from the water pump to the power steering (wp has 2 pulleys) and the third goes from the crank (which also has 2 pulleys) to the ac. |
