im getting some new swaybar bushings tomorrow and next on my list will be replacing the front shock absorbers (which seems to be whats causing the horrible sqeaking) and replacing the rear suspension arms (or just the bushings if possible).

Im going to ask at my local toyota dealer about the price on these items but i know ill get a headache just by thinking about it so if anyone here could direct me to a good and relyable arftermarket online store that ships to sweden id be very thankful!

To recap, im looking for shock absorbers for the front suspension and either complete replacements or just bushings for the rear lower suspension arms.

thats just amazing =)
Sadly tho i dont got that kind of money. Video and dvd would be very sweet but as of now ill settle with cd and possibly mp3 just to keep the price down.

Ill be redoing the audio in my car and will probably get a new headunit at the same time.
I find the double din headunits to be dead sexy and is planning on installing one of these in my celi, but the only ones ive found for sale here in sweden costs a fortune.
So i was hoping someone could point me to a good place to order one online for a decent price. As long as its radio and cd im happy, but USB, mp3 and so on is welcome additions depending on the prize.

Ah yeah, ive done some looking around and learned what revmatching is. I dont do it however so it cant be the cause of the problem smile.gif

About the links on the tranny and shifter, is it difficult to check them? Do i have to take out the tranny or touch it at all?
And suggest i check them, what should i look for and what might be the problem with it?

okay im reviving this thread as i still have the problem but no answer to why.

When ever I want to leave 5th gear, its like the gearstick is stuck in 5th and i have to apply alot more pressure to get it out then on any other gear.

What may be the cause and what can i do about it?

Ill also add that the problem has not gotten worse since i first posted, but its still annoys me a little.

well i guess ill have to go on a scavanger hunt then. and yes, it might be a problem getting everything loose back there but one way or another theyare coming off smile.gif

about the clutch.
The vac leak was mentioned to my problem with a SQUEAKING shock absorber and not the whining sound from my clutch smile.gif

ive been told the throwout bearing might be the culprit but there is an issue here.
I bought the car around october last year and only 2 months before that the guy who sold it to me had the clutch+throwout bearing+more changed at an official workshop. I have the receit and papers from the workshop so i know its true. These parts cant be worn out allready so IF this is the case, that workshop must have done a lousy job somehow.

well ive changed the transmission oil now and it didnt stop the strange sound coming form it sometimes so its probably something with the clutch. But ive been told that as long as the tranny works good, and the sound isnt getitng worse, i dont need to worry about it. So im considering it "fixed" as of now!

Ive also figured out what is making the small thumping noise from the rear. Its, what the chilton manual calls, "Nr. 2 lower suspension arms".
I dont know if there is another name for them, or what to call them in swedish smile.gif
But its the bars that is farest back, and goes from the middle of the car out to the suspension.
Pressure and movement in the suspension causes this sound coming from these bars and ive been told that the bushing is probably done for it.

Is it possible to change only the bushings or do i need to replace the entire bars?

Alot of work keeps me from spending any seirous time with the car but i did check some things.

Ive found no indication of leaks of any kind. Ive also not seen anything that i find suspicious but then again i dont know what to look for or where to look.
I jacked up and down the car by each wheel/suspension, one after the other, to see how they sounded and behaved and heres what i found out.

- When jacking up the front drivers wheel, the suspension squeaks like hell, all the way up and all the way down. The suspension works fine (so far at least) just sounds bad

- When jacking up the rear passenger wheel, there is no squaking but ever 5 cm or so there is a faint *thump* coming from somewhere, as far as i can tell, behind the wheel and suspension, closer to the middle of the car. I dont know how to describe the sound but its kind of faint and almost reminds me of the sound when the swaybar bushings have gone bad (which happend on my 5th gen celica). My bushings are fine tho.

- The other two wheels / suspensions give no sound so i consider them fine and dandy smile.gif

Im hoping whatever is wrong that it isnt too expensive to fix as my plans where to spend some money on mods before autumn (and lowering springs, unfortunatly, wasnt one of them frown.gif )

EDIT:
I also want to add that when driving at low speeds i hear this thump from the rear of the car from time to time as i brake, stop and go. Almost like something is loose and hits something else but i cant figure how this can be tied to the suspension. And as mentioned before, the swaybar bushings is not the problem (those where the first i checked).

im not sure what u mean but if its just a leak, that should mean that fixing it wont be all to expensive right?

thanks for replies.

Yeah ive been told to check for leaking fluids along the struts but havent seen anything out of the ordinary. But im guessing ill have to be prepared to put some money into it then.

About the transmission, no i havent changed the fluid since the car came into my posession (around october last year) so i guess it might be a good time for it now. Ill be doing a service of the car within a week or two and ill do it then.

But if the clutch breaks this will be an expensive trip frown.gif

I know pretty much nothing about cars, and whenever i hear sounds or feel vibrations that im not used to i get overworried. So before i drive to the mechanics, and throws away my paycheck, i just had to throw 2 questions out on the forums.
For the record, i have a 1994 celica (think its an 3f-ge, the one with about 175HP) with manual transmission.

1. My suspension all around the car gives out alot of squeaking noises. Whenever i go over a bump or uneven road (in other words, whenever the suspension is compressed) it squeaks ALOT.
This sound emits from three of the four suspensions. My question is if there is any common problem that gives this squeaking, something that might be easy or even cheap to fix?

2. At low rpms, usuly at low speed or in neutral, there is a whining noise coming from "somewhere". It disappears if i press down the clutch, but if i release the clutch again it comes back. Also, if i put the car in neutral, depress the clutch and then release it quickly i hear a small THUMP and feel a faint single vibration.
Is my clutch going to hell?

Im sorry if im not clear, ive tried to describe my problems as good as i can, but i hope someone can give me some ideas as to what may be the problem with my car.

oki tnx, suspension arms then smile.gif

So are they suppose to be a little loose (when twisting them) or should i replace the bushings?

First im sry for not providing images to help me show what i mean. No camera available but if i cant explain, ill try and get some pics up in a day or so.

When checking my car around i found something that bothered me. In the rear, there are 2 iron bars stretching from the the middle of the car out to the rear wheels, one on each side. (actually there are 2 on each side but this refers to the ones furthest back.

If i grab these bars i can twist them slightly back and forth. There is no movement sideways, but its easy to twist them slightly back and forth.

They are attached with some rubber bushings in both ends. Now, can i assume the bushings are done and needs replacing, or is this supose to be this way? I cant remember noticing this on my old celi (1991).

My celi came equipped with a pipercross cone filter. Looks about the same as a K&N except it is covered in a "foam" material (im guessing to prevent water from getting in).

But compared to the K&N filter i had on my old celi, i can hardly hear any noise at all from this one. Except from the hissing idle sound, i cant hear that gurgling effect the K&N filter gives.

This normal for pipercross filters or is something wrong?

not sure what you mean but no matter the rev, shifting down from 5th is always harder then any other gear.

Even if standing still, without the engine on, shifting down from 5th feels like it "hooks" into something.

Tranny works like a dream but when im shifting down from 5th, it feels almost like the shifter is stuck in something and i have to apply a little more force then usual. There is no misshift, or sounds or anything, just the feel of it being stuck in something.

Is this something to worry about? Maybe just the shifter bushings being in bad shape? Im getting a TWM shortshifter installed in a week or so which will hopefully solve the issue.

I noticed that my cooling system has alot of greyish goo in it. How the hell did that get in there? Someone told me its because the previous owner(s) probably mixed diffrent types of cooling fluids which will eventually clog the system. This true?

In any case ill be cleaning and flushing out the system in a few days.

I got one coming for my newly bought car, should arrive next week.
Being someone whose most complex carwork to date has been changing break discs, will it be hard for me to isntall the shifter by myself? Or should i leave it up to a friend who has more experience?

ok, guess we'd better stick to the english then.

yes the superstruts is quite rare, if you have them, just make sure everythings ok, they're VERY expensive to fix/replace kindasad.gif

So what separated "superstrut" suspension from regular one?

Ok enough swedish. still no pictures but theyr coming. Ive also got a twm shortshifter and car alarm incoming, prolly get around installing them within a few weeks!

Im finally a 6th gen owner!

Yester day i flew across country and fetched my car, a 1994 3s-ge (thats the correct engine right?)
Its rolled just over 140 000 km. Sunroof, leather, JDM tails and a 4inch muffler.

After many ups and downs i finally got hold of the car ive been looking for! Im so happy, the car is a dream! I really did enjoy my 5th gen celi, but this is way WAY more satisfying to own!

Atm i dont have a camera worth shooting with but ill try and get some pictures up asap.

Quick question:
The dude said the car got a special kind of front wagon or something like that. As im a noob at cars and celicas in general i couldnt understand what me meant, and of course im suspecting he just said this to get the car sold (though we had allready struck the deal before he said this).
Something about double swaybars and whatnot.

Does anyone know anything about this? The car is imported to sweden from germany.

Anyways, just wanted to say how happy i am!
