Long time no post! My prior issues have been fixed. My weird stutter on acceleration WAS the timing belt, and I got that fixed, the distributor is all good, and there's just a few more issues I have before I can start upgrading the car.

What I'm trying to fix now, is a problem I've had since I bought the car. When I step on the gas, the revs go up, but then about half a second after, I feel a small rush of power. Like I get on it, it's slow, but then it just starts going.

Also, from a stop, going into first gear- I feel like it's going, but then I feel what I think is the clutch grabbing, and then it slows down. I know the 7afe doesn't have too much power, but first gear foot to the floor being that sluggish just doesn't seem right.

Could this be fuel pump? I changed out the fuel filter already, but I don't know the condition of the pump. And for some reason, the fuel light always stays on even though I fill my tank up.

Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

If you take the screw out of the back of the mirror part it just falls inside and then your mirror will be floppy... I found this out the hard way. kindasad.gif

Had this happen to me today, but I went and fixed it. Super old topic but I figured some pics of the inside of the mirror would be useful to someone smile.gif

And as you can see in one of the pics, that thing is NOT getting beck in place unless you put it there.

Is this a 2.2 or 1.8? If it's a 1.8 then the 'rebuilt' and 'new' distributors you get from parts stores are utter and complete garbage and I wouldn't be shocked if you got a brand new bad part. https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/list-o...issues.1239322/

My advice would be to check the pickup coil and ignition coil resistances to see if they're in spec before you tear down the timing belt, not that you shouldn't still check that if you find the problem to be something else as the belt probably is worn out and needs to be changed along with the items the belt runs against.

Thanks for the advice! It's a 1.8, so when I'm free I'll check. I have a manual with the resistances, and I thankfully didn't pitch my old distributor, so maybe I can use the coil in there if the one I got new is crappy.

Although it does tick, and it's ticked before I replaced the distributor. The car itself has 200k + miles, and the previous owner didn't seem to take good care of it maintenance wise.

But thank you so much for the info! I'm glad to find other people that like these cars as much as I do!

Looking into it more, it's definately a skipped timing belt, I was thinking other things, but it all points to that, so thank you, presure2.

Now, I know how to replace the timing belt, what I don't know is how I'd manage to time it correctly. If It skipped, I don't know by how many teeth, so I can't really copy any marks over. Thankfully the engine is non interference, but how should I go about getting the timing back? If I line up all the marks, how should the timing belt go on?

Thank you for the info btw, I was close to buying an o2 sensor, thinking it was an emissions issue.

Alright! I ordered the corolla mount, put it in, and even successfully replaced the rear mount! It feels like a completely different car! Anyways, I still notice some wiggle room for the trans, IIRC the proper mount's rubber insulation was wider, so eventually I'll get the right mount, but for now, I don't have to brace for impact every time I go to second gear, so I'm happy!

if you have to advance timing like that, its likely your mechanical timing is off.

Also, I should probably say that my battery wasn't held down, and used to hit the old distributor in a turn. And I put the distributor in wrong once, engine didn't like it at all but I put it in correctly right after. I don't know if either scenarios could mess something up, I just thought I'd say that

Shoooooot, I was afraid of that. How should I adjust that? Is it time to replace my timing belt?

Hello again! I'm loving the forum! It's been a big help to me and the car I love!

I've had this weird idle problem for a while, about a month. I can't pinpoint it ecactly, but one day, after putting in lesser grade gas, my car ran like crap. Misfiring, sputtering out, the works. I replaced my entire distributor, my sparkplugs, and the wires, and since the distributor, it can idle. Now though, I have these intermittent drops in idle, like a misfire, but only just. And my timing is advanced all the way, because anything lower gets the idle to 500ish, and spots of soot spatters the driveway. Alongside the low idle, blipping the throttle with the timing in the middle makes it stutter, then start increasing in revs.

My upstream o2 sensor works, since I tested it with a multi, but unplugging it fromits harness gives no CEL and no codes, and nothing changes. The downstream doesn't give any codes either if its unplugged. The fuel system seems fine, because it doesn't get starved at high rpms. I've changed the fuel filter.

I'm just looking to see what it is, or see if someone else has had this happen. I'd love to get my 6gc mechanically in top shape for the school year. If you need any other info, just put down a reply. Thank you!

You're going to need to look closer at what trans/engine is in the car, there should be a VIN tag on the engine block. It's at the bell housing end either at the front or rear riveted to the engine block. You may have a Corolla trans or both engine and trans in this Celica which is why the mount is different. The trans itself should have some kind of ID numbers stamped in the case as well, but I'm not sure where those would be located exactly.

On the bellhousing, it says Z40806374

I saw the plate, but it just says toyota all over it, like a voided warranty sticker

Finally the replies are being added! Anyways, the bellhousing said that, and the engine had that on it. From what I've researched, yes, it's a corolla trans. When I bought the car, it said it had a "corolla engine." I thought he said that because the 7afe is shared with the celica, but now I'm starting to realize he literally meant corolla engine. I found the right motor mount, but I wanted to know- If I got the corolla mount, would it be offset compared to the celica mount? Would it hurt to get that? Or try and source the actual bracket somehow. Thanks for your help!

I have a manual 1995 ST. I bought the trans mount Rockauto said was the part for my car, but it wasn't. Looking into it, a 93-97 or something corolla mount IS the part I have, but with an extra threaded section. What is this part I'm holding?

This is what I had, and what I need

This is what they sent frown.gif I think it's to the 5sfe trans

Do I have a weird mount? The mount had 1-16120 on it, and looking it up got me forklift parts. Unless my eyes deceive me, my celica is NOT a forklift. Any help is appreciated, I'm very much ready to not have my engine shake the change out of my pocket when I move. Thanks!

I did my 6gc's first oil change today, and while I was under there I was looking around, and noticed this spot of missing material on my bell housing. I know bell housings don't need to be air tight sealed, but should I be concerned? Thank you!

Also, all the gunk shown is oil from a crapped out distributor, not gear oil
