Here is the guy's email response to me when I was questioning how it could come from a MR2. What generation is this motor? I didn’t think they had 3sgte's in 2000 Mr2's that I know of? hello, and yes the motor is a 3sgte from japan. it came out of a mr2 spider year 2000. motor came to florida with 51,000 miles and was completely rebuild.engine was upgraded with adjustable cam gears, instead of the original bolts to tork down the head studs were used also comes with a t26 supra turbo brand new exhaust original intake 2 fuel rails one complete wirering harnest from a 90 Celica with the computer and some x-tra parts. the motor came out of a mr2 so it should fit right in also i should fit right in the Celica because this motor sits just like both of these (side ways) |

I saw this add where a guy says he has a JDM 3SGTE 2.0 Turbo engine from a 2000 MR2 Spyder. Came with 51K and he had it rebuilt with adjustable cams. Is this possible? I wrote the guy and he says, yes, it is from a 2000 Spyder. Does he just not know what he is talking about, ord did JDM put out a 3SGTE for their Spyder? Also, I hear a lot about buying front clip to do a swap. But wouldn't a newly rebuilt MR2 engine be better? I know of two rebuilt 3SGTE MR2 engines right now that are $1200. Seems like they would be a lot better than a used one with who knows how many miles, particularly if they are rebuilt with some better components, i.e. adjustable cams. Sounds like for the MR2 you primarily need alternator mounting bracket and a couple of things and you need the wiring harness work done regardless of whether you get a clip or not. Thinking about it, maybe it would be a good idea to get a front clip and as well as the fresh rebuilt MR2 engine, then sell the 3SGTE and other parts you don't need from the clip. |

Do you have the motor and transmission? This is a GT, correct? How many miles and what shape are they in? |

I see a Electromotive EMS with custom harness for sale for an MR2. If I get this, then could I just get the 3SGTE engine and not need to worry about the other parts needed that come in a front clip? This is coming from a 5SFE on a Celica GT. The EMS also comes "with trigger wheel, coil packs, magnecor spark plug wires,850cc injectors with custom made fuel rail made to fit my 2nd gen head,Custom made wire harness for my mr2 will fit perfect to any 2nd gen motor srt8 bolt on." If I had this, then would I still need any of these parts from the sticky? "3rd ECU plug, AFM, ignitor, coil, injector resistor pack, fuel pump resistor, fuel pump relay, turbo pressure sensor, air intake piping, and probably some other stuff". Seems that if I had this, maybe I could just get a 3SGTE engine and do the clutch disk work to use the 5SFE or the different tranny. |

I was thinking of picking up a set of front leather seats for my convertible but these came from a non-convertible. Will they fit? |

I need a new engine. There is a used 5SFE locally that the guy is also selling the automatic transmission with it. My family would probably prefer auto, I have a daughter learning to drive. Is it a big deal to switch from Manual to Auto? If I have the engine and Auto Transmission would there be a lot else to change? Would the ECU need to be changed along with wiring? Is there extra labor cost in swapping both the Engine/Tranny at the same time as compared to just doing the engine? |

I found out for sure today that the engine is toast. I see a nice 5SFE for sale that is rebuilt from a 91 MR2. Anyone know how much extra work there is to get this to work in the Celica? I saw someone said on this thread that the Celica takes a different oil pan. Any other issues? |

I think I have a hydro-locked engine from my son running it through some high water. It is 95 GT Conv, manual 5SFE with about 70K on the engine and 120K on the car. I see some rebuilt 5FSE's on ebay for $1200 shipped including return of core. That seems a better deal than a 60K engine for $800 or so, correct? I guy here in town has a used 5SFE from a 3SGTE swap for $500 with auto transmission, but doesn't know the miles, lol. I am more interested in economy than performance on this car, so I don't think I want to go the 3SGTE route. I was thinking maybe someone else out there might have a low mileage 5SFE they might want to swap out. |

I did both rear windows along with the help of someone who knew what he was doing. I pretty much held the light at night. Cost $160 labor, but he installed a radio and speakers for me to. It took a lot of time, but the windows work great now! Also, he took apart and cleaned both motors as well as the switch for the one that wasn't working and that fixed the problem with the right rear not going up. Within a couple of weeks my son ran it through a big puddle, and I think now that I have hydro-locked the engine, so I may be needing an engine replacement, and that engine had only 70K on it. ![]() |

What is this #3 part called anyway? I can't seem to find it on the online dealers listed? Is it the regulator? The regulators cost $108 not $48 to $68. |

Ouch, this looks and sounds difficult! Both my rear windows go up too far and go off track, and also don't allign right with the front windows, leaving gaps. I suppose this bushing is the issue? The passenger side also is real hard to get it to go up. It goes down the first click, but I need to keep pushing the switch and after about a hundred tries it will go up. Someone had checked this by switching the connections to the other drivers side switch and the passenger side did the same thing, so they are saying it is not the switch and must be the motor. When it does go up, it goes up fine, so it doesn't appear to be the motor to me. |

I just bought a new bumper cover from Certifit for I think under $90. Not sure how it will fit. I am having a hard time taking the old bumper cover off. How do you get to the highest bolt that attaches to the fendor? |

The car is $3K as it is. I am thinking $1K to fix it up and then it is worth $7K or better. It has a good, non-salvage, Minnesota title. Thanks for asking. |

Here is the picture of my car after having a slow crash into stopped traffic. ![]() I think I am going to fix this up. I had the insurance guys check and the radiator is not leaking and they told me it was driveable as is, which was what I thought. When I had the accident I was with my wife, so I just pulled it off to side without checking too much, but it didn't overheat or anything, and we just got a rental and drove back to Minnesota. I think all I need is the front bumper, air bags, hood, windshield, and driver high beam. They have radiator support, bumper absorber, hood latch, etc. costs in the estimate as well, and it is a bit difficult for me to figure out if I need those as well. I have been looking to buy hood, air bags, and light from some people here on the board. The car is in Austin, Tx, and I am way up in Minnesota. My plan is to just have a windshield installed, fly down to Tx, and drive it back as it is and fix it up here. It has 52K on a swapped motor installed last year and 116K on the chasis. I see where some people have posted on cars in much worse shape from an accident that it would take only about $1000 to fix. That is what I am thinking as well. I suppose if someone wants to make an offer to me on this car, it would save me the time to go down, pick it up and fix it. I would be interested. Also, if I got a CF hood for it, would that need to be painted or are they good as they are? I am trying to decide which would look better if I fix it up, an OEM or CF. Here is a list of what has been done on the car and some extra pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() Before the accident: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry for the caps. This is the listing from the original owner, and he had the description all in caps, that I am not going to retype! YOU ARE LOOKING AT MY 1995 CELICA GT CONVERTIBLE. THIS HAS BEEN A PROJECT THAT I HAVE HAD FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO. I REPLACED THE MOTOR, BECAUSE IT SLUNG A ROD AT 115093 MILES AND I THEN ORDERED A JDM 2.2 MOTOR WITH ONLY 52K MILES ON IT. I HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY SWAPED OUT AT A1 TOYOTA HERE IN SAN ANTONIO TX. THE MOTOR IS STILL UNDER WARRENTY, WHEN THEY PUT THE NEW MOTOR IN I HAD THEM REPLACE THE OLD MOTOR MOUNTS, ALL BELTS, RADIATOR, AC COMPRESSOR, FLUSH THE AC LINES AND CHARGE ALL LINES AS WELL, I ALSO HAD THEM INSTALL A NEW COMPLETE CLUTCH KIT-WHICH HAS A LIFETIME WARRENTY, AND ALSO HAD THEM INSTALL THE AEM COLD AIR INTAKE. ONCE I GOT IT HOME I JUST KEPT ADDING TO IT, I ADDED GLOW GAUGES-BLUE, AND BLUE GREEN-GLOW GAUGES, CARBON FIBER BEZEL, SILVER CARBON FIBER DASH KIT, SILVER CARBON FIBER OBX FAT BOY SHIFTER, SILVER CARBON FIBER SHIFT BOOT, R1 RACING SPORT PEDALS, APEXI CARBON FIBER EXHAUST, ALUMINUM FLOOR MATS, KENWOOD DETACHABLE FACE CD PLAYER WITH REMOTE, NEW BRAKES, NEW 18 INCH CHROME WHEELS, NEW 18 MICHELIN CHAMPIRO TIRES-TIRES AND RIMS ARE BRAND NEW- NO CURB RASH OR ANY SCRATCHES WHAT-SO-EVER. I JUST HAD THE CAR PAINTED BLACK AS IF YOU KNOW TOYOTAS THE PAINT FADES FAST AND SIMPLY NEEDED IT WITH ALL I HAD ALREADY INVESTED IN IT. I HAD THEM PUT TWO COATS OF HIGH DOLLAR CLEARS SO THIS CAR SHINES BEAUTIFUL. THE TOP IS LIKE NEW AS I HAD IT REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, AND IT DOES HAVE THE GLASS BACK WITH THE REAR DEFROST. I THEN ADDED THE CLEAR SIDE PARKING LIGHTS WHICH REALLY MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE ON THIS PARTICULAR BODY STYLE. I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL ALLOY TOYOTA RIMS, WITH TIRES, ORIGINAL FACTORY STEREO, ORIGINAL FACTORY BLACK CLOTH FLOOR MATS WHICH I WILL INCLUDE UPON REQUEST, I ALSO BOUGHT A SET OF LIKE NEW LEATHER REAR SEATS, BUT STILL COULD'T FIND THE FRONT LEATHER BUCKETS, I WILL INCLUDE THE LEATHER BACK SEATS. THIS CELICA HAS GRAY AND BLACK CLOTH SEATS WHICH ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND DON'T NEED REPLACING, BUT IF YOU WANT TO OPT OUT FOR LEATHER LIKE I SAID I AM INCLUDING THE BACK SEATS SO YOU ARE ALREADY HALF WAY THERE. |
