Just sold my GT after five trouble free years and finally bought a GT-Four (ST205) and then i've noticed a slight warbling noise at 3000 rpm when steady on the throttle. Does this ring any bells for anyone? It doesn't seem to be affecting performance in anyway - good, strong and relatively hesitant free boost to 0.9bar is achieved, but it is concerning to hear the engine make odd noises I've listened for any indication of ringlands having blown (such as the subaru boxer sound) and watched for smoke coming from the dipstick... nadda... thankfully! |

Comes under the manufacturer Saturn out there, mate. Don't think they do the VXR model though, just the average joe configurations iirc from when i went to the showrooms in MA (no i wasn't looking at buying one! ) |

Clicky But its a UK company so best email them for a shipping quote first. They are aimed at specific engines though, so hopefully they'll fit the 5S-FE - best ask about that too |

Nice one Steve! Got mine in too and the first thing i noticed was a lot of the hiss from my stereo was gone - fan-bloody-tastic! haha! Idle is more consistent, but can't say that i noticed much difference in torque response or whatever. Alex P on ccuk said that the voltage variation was much better in his GT as a result of installing his, sits at 14V now as opposed to between 13.6V - 13.8V. Did you crush the connector that attaches to your alternator by any chance mate??! |

Push down on each corner, the car should spring up and settle in one smooth movement - if you get additional bounces its time to replace the shockers for sure. Other symptoms you may have noticed are wallowing into dips into the road and maybe unsettled exiting from corners, check for leaking from the shocks too. I'd recommend either KYB replacement struts or maybe Bilstein (Touring? I think) with Eibach springs as they always go down well When you replace them you will most likely need to get some new rear drop links as if they were anything like mine you'll need an angle grinder to get them off, probably only like $25 for a pair in the States. Might want to think about replacing the ARB bushes too to tighten up the back end some |

mine did to, and to be honest i didnt get a new one. i just left it out and have not had any problems, that was months ago. wow I can't even begin to understand the retardedness behind this decision. If you don't know the size, just take one of the ones you have off and with you to Home Depot to find a replacement. Little harsh perhaps! But true, generally speaking if you lose one you will know about it as you should hear some clanking/clinking coming from the wheel area - its there for a very good reason obviously so as said above - don't skimp, get it sorted properly! |

not unless it was a STi. Exactly, and with the Prodrive upgrade. Friend of mine just sold his 06 plate STi as the interior was awful... plastic paradise! If you're talking about the Impreza's made at the same time as the GT4 ST205, then you need to remember that the pistons were actually made out of chocolate. GT4 for my garage without hesitation. Only thing that endears that shape scooby to me is that Colin McRae used to drive them in the WRC - personal hero, RIP. |

from word of mouth i heard some army dude brought a gt4 silver one down here to the islands. i havent seen it myself, supposively he passed all that stuff and sold it to some kid on the west shore for $3k sooo im guessing military has an easier chance of getting a car here???? Interesting - unfortunately i don't have strong enough contacts in the services to call on anymore Still sounds like it could be somewhat illegal in the US, i don't know if its so well enforced out on Hawaii though. |

Sounds like alot of hassle to salvage 20hp, Might aswell just get a LHD US GT and show them yanks how you poms add b-b-boooost. Thanks guys, indeed it does sound like too much hassle... i was hoping it would be as simple as importing a car from the States, Japan, Australia or wherever. What a pain in the arse -not sure if i'm selling it though as i could keep it in storage as i have that facility, or worst comes to worst either my younger brother can have it (after signing a contract swearing not to scratch it! ) or i may have to sell it as my first year in MA will be in schooling and probably not earning Visa depending. Could have been difficult getting it to run on lower grade petrol too, its running on 99ron currently. Looks like i'm borrowing the Elantra then |

Really noobish question here, but i'd like to know. Can you have a 3S-GE engine in your celica in the US??? I think IIRC that the 3S-GTE from Euro and Jap ST205 GT4's are not allowed for some reason. I'd like to know as im relocating to MA for a couple of years myself and thinking of exporting my car. Reason being that 2nd hand cars in the UK are worth sod all at the moment and i'd be lucky to get $4000 for it (you can get a quality ST205 for $7000 in the UK right now), yet as i understand i'd be hard pressed indeed to pick up anything as tip-top in MA for the same price due to relatively higher used prices. So... if it works out cheaper to export my Celica GT to Boston than buy one for of the same standard for the total costs involved then i would consider it. My girlfriend says shes seen several RHD cars around (shes local south MA) so thats not an issue - just whether i am allowed the 3S-GE engine in it or not. I can't see it being based on emissions as its only a 2.0litre 4 banger? Another reason is i love my car and don't want to sell it for peanuts after i've kept it in such good condition, not to mention modifying it I've done a search for this but its come up blank, cheers guys. |

As for a V6 swap, over in the UK the 3VZ-FE conversions are starting to really take off following the success of the mk2 MR2 guys. Its good for 200bhp plus, then you can supercharge or turbocharge.. |

You've got it really, just remember which hoses go where when you take them off, be fairly meticulous with your masking so that overspray doesnt get into the ACIS or just all over the place in general. Plastic bags are useful for large areas of course, and yeah you're average ratchet tool will do you no problem. Oh and undercoat/primer for metals too, otherwise you may find that your prepared and degreased metal surfaces do not adhere to the paint. Good luck mate, have fun! |

Just hand torqued them with a ratchet mate, if you miss-torque them and allow air into the ACIS you will know about it - idle will go nuts! Be careful not to get any paint on the gasket too tho of course. This was a few months ago, but iirc they were 10mm hexagon flange bolts so the correct torque would be 29NM / 21ft/lbs as they are Class 4T i believe - could be off tho |

Just asked her and she said they were from Direct Tire and were less than $60 for the pair... they were Rain X Fusion wipers - the flat blade type. |

Yeah i got a pair of RainX in MA at some usual auto shop for my girlfriends Hyundai... most classy part of the car! Paid about $55 - $60, you'll need a 20ins and a 21ins i think... |

I took the butterfly valve cover off to be sprayed black, but the block i sprayed in place - which was a bitch to do simply because of trying to mask off all the other parts/areas... worth it though for the results. You'll need a brush for the smaller and more hidden parts as overspray can be your enemy Under-hood is up next! Btw, i do actually think the powder coating shown above looks great - its just the photo picking up reflective highlights that makes it uneven or whatever - it would look the nuts up close in person |

I used a product called Autosol on mine - you can get it from eBay and it works quite well, good on your exhaust too if you have burnt on stains. However in the end i used heat paint to cover my manifold cover and enamel paint to cover my block: Still a work in progress mind you |

Glad you got it done in the end there dude, i would have commented on the 'other' thread... but we know how that went unfortunately Just how rusty were your flanges??... Looks rusty on, but quite good cleaned up separated. With mine you can actually flake rust off easily in chunks with your fingers (bolts look really bad) so im thinking if i managed to remove the cat, i'd have to have a new downpipe and cat-back system as its way too corroded to piece back together |

I'm pretty sure you could get them in the US, I'll have a look. Its a good price for us in the UK, my local garage wanted about £545 ($1090) for them, and thats not fitted! Pays to shop about! EDIT: Just had a look on the US database and they're not listed, neither are the self adjusting ones either though. However this doesnt actually mean that they don't do them, your best bet is to ring them up and ask as quite often they don't properly update the system (odd i know), as i found out earlier - garage confirmed this too. Use the part numbers from the first post as they could help! |
