Bump... I want my subs facing the rear of the car, i want them to go into a wall that then uses the trunk as my "box" i would put another peice behind the back seats to give it a good "seal" i'd have all the sheet metal dyno matted. Thus i am using that space below the rear deck lid as my box... My dad is concerned that if i do that i will end up weakening and exposing the weld on the frame that holds the top on to the body, and that then it would show through the paint and be unsafe... ??? Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated... this is my two cents. i have had many many many set up including a walled off celei and cavie both with 2 15's or 4 12's but your jsut making a wall in the trunk if i read it rite i just got off of a 12 hour night shift so bare with my bad speeling and gramer lol. most people will say the bass sounds better when you rear load the subs meaning that they face the back of the trunk but that is based on the 1/4 wave length rumor meaning the distance from the fromt of the sub to your ears is 1/4 of the wave length of the turning freq. of your box.. but that does not apply with the celie or any other coupe only with hatch or open ended cars it will sound better cleaner and louder if you fire them rite against the back seats i know you dont want to but it will be a way nicer sounding set up. the cloth of the seat acts a filter the gets rid of unwanted sounds echo's and interference. if you build a mini wall and have them rear loaded like what you want to do you will hear more rattle than bass i know that alot of people will disagree but its the truth i have SPL graphs to back it up i built a mini wall that was front loaded in a buddies cavie a few weeks ago and out the car it souned like a low powed 10 but in the car it was unreal... rite now i am building a comp car with one 15 on 10,000 watts at 16 volt's and i am looking to hit 155 db on a term lab that may not sound like that much but its a 35 hz... i know what i am talking about and would even help design a box if you want it depending on were you live i would even leand a hand but its your car and your build and i know how that goes lol so best of luck man PM if you need advice or any questions reagrading turning or anything jsut trying to help |

My answer is buy a 1508 DD build a fiber glass box were the rear 61/2 is located you only need 3/4 of a cube and you can still have the rear 6 1/2 thats what i am doing rite now but i am putting one on each side |

hey. well i have build a few myself none for my celi yet but ya. anyways you are better off going to youtube to look for pics and stuff but for all the ones i have built i make a skellton frame out of MDF and doll rod and or anything i need to make the shape i am looking for. once you have a frame built the hard part is over man! next i would take some grill cloth and cover the parts of the box that are not solid wood then your resen or how ever you spell it lol that will make it a hard suface to work with. then take your fiber glass and start coving it and make sure you off set each layer buy this i mean if you lay it down top to bottom the next layer needs to be left to right. make sure you have LOTS! ol layers i use 1/4 in 4foot by 60 foot rolls lol its nasty stuff hard to work with but i will lay down 3 layers of that ****! depending on your needs of course if your running a single 10 on 400 watts you dont need to go crazy lol after your last layer of glass is on get some body filler and fill in low spots or any place you want to look a little different and take some sand paper and sand it to be baby ass smooth! i mean smooth!!!!!!!!!!!! then your paint and another layer of paint and then a little more and BAM! sick ass custom built fiberglass sub box! best of luck man take lots and lots of pics i always to get to into it and forget. |

I have been debating on rather or not to have Doc-tweak do a 3s swap or a 4agze but he brought to my attention that a silver top would be way cheaper and all i am looking for is a little more get up and go but not still have 25+ mpg (this is a DD car) and i do alot of traveling all over the place but would it be better to just rebuild the 7afe to run like new or swap in a silver top? i have been looking a silver tops for a few days now and have seen them sell for $800 it will cost me around $1000 to rebuild the 7afe like new so whats the better deal for my application? so please let me have your .02 (ill give it back i swear!) |

Me and Panda where hanging out with friends a while back watching Scrubs and the episode where JT goes to Ellies apartment to tell her he still loves her and sees her in the window with her boyfriend. As he walks away, behind him there is a Blue Hatch. I think it was an ST but there was some debate. but yah, everyone was really into the episode and me and Panda look up and are like "CELICA!!!!!" and since our friends already think we take this Celi thing to fare, just started laughing at us. Nice!!!! i watch scrubs like its my job and i didnt even notice that!! i am downloading that episode rite now!!! |

QUOTE(njccmd2002 @ May 6, 2008 - 8:24 AM) why not cut holes in the stock ones. especially if you are buying aftermarket.. i want to build a SQ car that looks 100% stock so i want to use all OEM celica parts i want to but the 6 speaker doors wit the 8 and the 61/2 and the tweater in the sail then run 2 12's in the rear were the rear 61/2s are located but in a fiber glass box that fills that hole empty space. |

Hilarious. o ok my bad didnt mean to make you sound dumb or anything just worried is all we dont need a celi burning to the ground due to bad wiring lol sorry about that i must have read it wrong. |

QUOTE(Rob_ @ May 6, 2008 - 1:20 PM) Thanks for the welcome! I understand that there's lots on the site. I don't really want to be spoon fed either. I've already seen the walk-through for changing the rear speakers. My plan is to replace the current speaker mounts with some MDF and build a box on to that. For the subs I only need 0.3cu ft so a 6.5" deep box is fine. hey rob i am in the middle of that rite now i am fiber glassing that hole empty air space and putting a 12 on each side i have 2.453 cubic feet of air space their is a lot of room back their! |
