that does sound metal on metal rotational contact. (like a bearing). Since I believe it is related to the compressor wheel and possible contact with housing or a bearing I would suggest this as a check...

When the engine is idling and making the noise, disconnect one of the couplers from the intercooler - effectively letting the turbo just blow to the atmosphere. If it stops, I would say it is turbo related.

Do not do this check while revving the engine or in a dusty location. Do no drive the car like this as this is only a diagnostic check.

I just read through your entire thread. All I can say is wow. It looks like you are almost to the pot of gold. Your attention to details is rivalled by very few. You certainly put in the long hours of research and effort.

The car looks beautiful and the prep was inspiring. I cannot wait to see it finished.

I just realized that reading this made me realize that I should stop worrying about my car - it will get there. (I have so many other priorities than the 'trac that I have been seriously disheartened by the prospect of waiting several years to get it up to par) So thank you for your fortitude.

Chances are you can find a used one pretty easy, or at least cheaper than one they want to fix your current one.

The pics sadly do nto help unless you wash the engine and show us fresh oil.

Based on the pics, it could be the oil pump leaking (though doesn't explain the coating on PS brackets and above). Based on that picture, I would say replace your valve cover gasket, check that the intake manifold nuts/bolts are tight. Then give the engine a good thorough was down.

Check your PS pump also as those along with the hoses love to leak. Otherwise, to replace the oil pump gasket, I would suggest waiting until you are going to do the timing belt (assuming your leak is not horrible) that way you can all of it done at the same time. You could replace the oil pump at that time, but the oil pumps generally do not go bad and you can always check the tolerances to be extra sure.

I would not return the the place you took the car. Oh and another idea that just came up is they sell the UV dye that you can put in your oil to find leaks. Then bust out a blacklight and it can help narrow the leak down.

Wow - I haven't been on this site in months since I have been so busy only to come back and learn presure2 has a 3sgte swapped. I searched and found this thread, his threads are always full of information and just an amazing experience in and of themselves.

Manny, great work. Top notch and phenomenol as usual. Certainly raises the bar for others. It is sad to see you move on from the 5sfte as you are what I consider the grand father of it. You weren't the first to boost a 5s, but certainly the first IMO to prove the reliability that could be attained.

Look forward to the progression the new motor will be undergoing.

I do have one question, I promise it is a general one, about the wiring. Do you just use the wire from another harness or are you just using wire from the store? I ask since the connections I seen in the pictures were all the same color sheathing on the wires.

Hahaha - same here.

Generally speaking the cat itself should be smoking. Are you sure it is not your engine? What color is the smoke? I assume the smoke is coming from the tailpipe?

my 5s has 240,000 miles but still runs absolutely perfect i have no idea of past events or anything internal done to the block other than it has a new timing belt so i like to think the previous owner had replaced the head-gasket too.

i know a bunch of you think this is a bad idea but i don't have the resources or time or money too rebuild or too swap or boost like a lot of individuals on here.

So what I am getting from this and your other posts in this thread is you wish to provide us with no actual data? Just a "hey I blew my motor, no I have no clue why, I don't know what my AFRs were, no I didn't track data"

So the whole point of this really isn't the point. The point I am seeing is that you want an easy go fast car without any extra hopmework or effort, yet you admit you have no budget and still are willing to blow your motor for no actual point.

Well good luck. I am hopeful for your motor and car. I have done the same thing you are doing but with the turbo about 8 years ago. I did it on my daily driver with no budget for all the proper stuff. The motor went pop.

Please head the warnings of others.

To OP -

This whole thread seems like highschool drama. It started off sort of stalkerish then it backed down to obsessed and then all the way to shut off.

I would love to hear what happened that made her Batsh** crazy - just adds to the entertainment of the thread. Too bad we couldn't get all three sides to the story - that would be hilarious.

I used to be in a circle of people that used profanity and dirty jokes as an extension to their dialect. Having grown up some and hanging around mature people both at work and otherwise I can say that if and when profanity does slip through there are 2 things that are taking place. #1 it makes people permanently brand you and #2 it makes people talk about you. Someone you might not know and never heard of probably already made up his or her mind about you just from other people talking about you. And I don't mean you personally but whomever has a dirty mouth so to speak. I have seen people basically jeopardize their future in plain sight.

In my scuba club we have this person who have said something about difference between a male scuba diver and a female scuba diver. Needless to say it was funny but someone in our group of 8 at the time has told someone else and behold we have a split in our club. Most female members made it clear that either he goes or they go. So he stayed and now we only have 1 female member in our club of 200 and she is a dirty thing herself so I guess that insignificant comment did not phase her one bit.

I was raised with a belt and ass whooping so my morals do not quite fit with the way americans were brought up. My mom used to tell me: "Word is like a finch, you let it loose and you wont catch it again". It took me years of doubting her and a few real life examples to learn that that timeless saying is ohh so true.

On a different note just because internet does not show your face, it reflects your mind so do keep that in mind when you post.

Wow you come off as extremely close-minded in my opinion. (My opinion - don't like it tough)

A few key points though:

1. No matter what you say or don't say - you are judged before hand.
2. How were Americans brought up? I personally got smacked around just in case I did something later - I guess that is not American?
3. internet reflects your mind - please elaborate since well most people try to portray themselves as something different - some don't luck of the draw really.

Now with that said your experiences in life may be different than mine so you are certainly entitled to your views/opinions however different than mine.

I think the point 6gtfour is trying to make he would like the numbers in a perfect world. No matter what the kit will produce different results for each engine based on condition, day of the week, and a myriad of different factors. I don't know anyone who garauntees their product will make x hp except maybe the magic chips on ebay.

X2 to what others said - if you are clueless about this sort of material - don't buy it - go buy a magic chip off ebay and a powered by Honda sticker - you will get the same hp gain (in case you were wondering yes the last part was sarcasm).

If you feel so strongly for how a business/vendor/person should sell/market/test their product - go do it yourself.

Baktasht - damn the DP looks simply amazing.
