I was looking at how an oil catch tank would fit in my car today as i have one on the way to stop all the oily crap from the breathers going back into the intake, and i got a bit lost because ive two breathers.

Do i remove and fit the catch tank to the yellow breather or green breather?

Or would i blank off both intake ends and fit the catch tank to both breathers on the engine?

Ignore the blue circle, i was missing a bracket but i found it in the boot

to the yellow one... as you can see there is a pcv valve that opens only when oil gets to a higher presure into the valve cover to allow the burned oil to escape formed as gas going into your intake to recycle....

Did the previous owner swap in the st165 calipers? Because I'm sure the US celica owners all have single piston calipers.

I don't think so... the car came to cyprus from japan 100% stock so i don't think that someone who likes the car stock goes throu the trouble to change just the calipers. The 1st owner in cyprus was my uncle (who only chamge the wheels to some 18")and I was the second, so...

I recently noticed that I have 2piston calibers insted of single piston I was expecting to have.
I have a 98' convertible JDM imported so is there any difference from the JDM celicas to the EUDM/USDM ones or all the latest 6g celicas have 2piston calipers?

Hey guys, i cant really decide what rims to get. So help me?

All are 17", from cheapest option to most expensive
1. KSpeed Daytona White 17x7 incl. rubber (+40 offset, 11kg, NEW)

2. Enkeis RP01 17x7.5 incl. rubber (+38 offset, Around 6kg, 2nd hand, Will need to buy stud adapter 100x5 to 114.3x5)

3. Rays Gram Lights 57F White 17x7.5 incl. rubber (+30 offset, Around 6kg, 2nd hand)

Rays all the way.... I know that KSpeed are almost the same and being new with the polish lip and blue detail are better looking but rays are much stronger/better quality and beeing 6kg there is a BIG performance diff.

im seriously considering some D2 coilovers and i was wondering if anybody was running these? i have been going back and forth with k-sport, D2, NEX, (they seem like they are outting out a good product) and Megan...im not looking to spend over 1,000 for these things so basically those are in the same price range im looking for. i have heard about k-sport..but very little on the others....im mostly interested in the D2's though so if anybody has these please let me know how they ride, and how much of a drop they are able to give you.

don't know about the NEX but i have D2 on my prelude and they are,by far, the best mod i've done to it.
D2 and K-sport are the same. They are made by the same factory and they share the same shocks but they may be some differences in the spring rates and for sure the color (k-sport is orange with chrome shocks and D2 is pink with black shocks)

As for durability, I had my D2 set too low and too stiff as i was using my lude for some after midnight hill climp action and gave hell to them biggrin.gif . Finaly, after 4 years, the front right gave up when i hit a pot hole doing 130-140km/h and i replace all 4 of them with new ones just to be sure. rolleyes.gif

u should most definitely get new shocks. KYB GR-2's seem to be most commonly used in the celica community

i went outside the box biggrin.gif and used the monroes. its stiff and i like it biggrin.gif

I plan to use monroe too with my FK-Automotive springs. They use a special self adjustable valving system that it has oem stifness when your cruising and when you make a sharp turn the valve is closing and the shock gets stiffer. So you get oem comfort with added stability and traction from the same shock, even with stock springs, without having to adjust anything. smile.gif biggrin.gif

There ya go... you should let us know how the redstuff pads work out, if they do have less dust. Remember though that less dust=harder pad=less stopping power. Maybe they'll be a good compromise though?

Thats not allways right. New brake technologys, new brake materials, better compounds... ...better performance.

EBC claims that had some problems with the previus RED stuff pad and the new red stuff compund provides better cold and hot stop than the green stuff, with much less dust and minimal stress on the rotors unlike other sport, more agressive than the oem, pads.

It's my understanding that EBC Greenstuff pads are about the best pads you can get for stopping power. I don't know about SSIIIs because we got totally screwed in the US market, but do you have rear disc brakes as well, or drums? If you have drums I'd say convert them to disc brakes to increase stopping power as well. Short of that, I'm not really sure what else you can do aside from a big brake swap. Maybe stainless brake lines? I don't think it's quite as simple as being able to just get bigger rotors. That'd be great - unfortunately I don't think they're available for our brake systems as-is.

disc brakes all around. As for the EBC Greenstuff is the ones that i'm using on my prelude +DBA gold series rotors and they are amazing for both street and competition.

Maybe i'll just use them again, EBC Greenstuff + some good ss brained brake lines and call it a day.

**edit** checking again the EBC website i noticed that they upgrated the red stuff pad... maybe give em a try since they offer much less dust than the green

Well, if you dont want to do much work, than get better pads to begin with. Not the cheap-o auto-zone crap, but a decent brand. Second, make sure you have your system bleed with speed-bleeders or a vac-pump.

as for upgrades, These have served me well:

But it's not for everyone. You'll see a variety of opinions sprout from this, but first thing is first, start shelling out dough on pads!! everyone will agree with that. biggrin.gif Good luck with your upgrades.

I know pads are the #1 on brake upgrade. I still own my 94 prelude vtec with many $$ drop to it, and i'm not a car newbie to begin with.
I also know that the celi stock rotors are small and they have small pad to rotor contact and the drills/slots are gonna take away even more.

I don't want the celi for racing, i just want something beeter than stock.

I have a 98 convertible and with the heavy 18" wheels the braking is not as good as i want it to be.

I don't want anything extreme like a big brake kit but i want something better than stock, maybe a biger caliber with a set of good pads.

Is there any toyota models with bigger brakes like supra or gt4 that i can use their parts without too much custom work? I mean if i just need a custom braket to use the gt4 caliber with convertible or gt4 rotor that would be nice (if the gt4 rotors fit the convertible).

Any other options?

**edit** ps. Is a 98" with beams motor. Don't know what model that makes it.

I have 98' beams convertible with 18" wheels with stock suspension. They guy i bought the car from also gave me a set of lowering springs that he had for it and he said he took them off because the car was too low for him (and his wife keep hiting the front lip on the sidewalks all the time laugh.gif ).
They are red and the part #'s are FKS223VA for the fronts and FKS223HA for the rears (or maybe the opposite), they also have "Made In Germany" printed on.

I did a search on the part # and nothing came out. After searching A LOT through the aftermarket parts companys websites i found that the FK Automotive springs part # starts with FKS but still i didn't find anything on my part #. Maybe they are discontinued.

Anypody have any info on them? How stiff they are and how much lower the car will be with them?
Also what is a good set of shocks to install with them?

I still own my 94' Prelude vtec with D2 racing coilover kit on and verry stiff settings so i'm used to hard rides but for the celica, being my DD, i don't want anything near that stiffness.

As some of you allready know i just got my 98' convertible few days ago.

It has the 6spkr sound system (4 speakers + 2 twiters) with a kenwood head unit.
I don't know if its the factory unit or an aftermarket one but it looks OLD.

The thing is that i already found a new one to change it but i want to keep the factory speakers
and maybe add a single channel amp + 10"-12"sub.
Seaching through the FAQ's i found that my factory system allready has an amp for the speakers but some say
it can be reused with an aftermarket unit and some say it can't.

I'm not an expert but i know that if i want to keep the amp i need to use the preamplified output.

So my Q is how good the factory amp works with aftermarket units and what is the max power of the factory amp+speakers ?
what is the indivitual max power of each factory speaker?
The head unid i'm looking at has build-in 4x50w amp. Do i need new speakrs or not?

F.Y.I: The speakers and amp are in good shape and they work fine even when i pop the vol too high.

ps. sorry for the long writing. I just need to know as much as possible before i go out and spend money on things that i can't use on my car.

Sorry ppl... Things don't allways come as you plan them so hopefully i will have the car tomorrow night so expect some pics during the weekend or on monday.

Seriously, I CANNOT wait to see a Celica with pearl white paint! Is it the same pearl color on the Lexus's? as Maskedman would say, the Indigo Ink Pearl?

Not really like the lexus... Its more like glossy white but you can see the pearlish color when the light hit it from some angles

can't wait to see pics man, but most of all, welcome to the site, be sure to become familiar with the search feature, but ask all the questions you need on anything you can't find. it's a great community of people that are here to help.

Don't worry about that. Being a member to many honda forums for years the "Search before post" became one of my basic principles biggrin.gif

Hi everybody
My name is Michael and I'm from Limassol, Cyprus.
Tomorrow I'm getting my celica and I'm so excited. It's a 98' perl white convertible, auto, with Beams red top motor, in exelend condition.

Plans... I don't have any plans converting it to manual cos the trafic is killing me. Maybe a nice (not a loud @$$ ice, just nice quality) sound system and some exterior mods and thats it. It already has a nice front lip.

Don't get me wrong, I love racing and i still own my 94' Prelude vtec with too much $$ drop to it but keepin it it just make me want to put more money to it and make it faster and faster (you all know how it goes biggrin.gif ) and I just got married and when you start a family you have other priorities, ...so I'm gonna give it to my 17,5 yo brother.

ps. If i have some extra $$ i may to a red leather interior. I've seen other white convertible cars like s2000 and 07' BMW 320 cabrio with red interior and i think it looks good. Whats your opinion? any pics of white celicas+red interior would help me to decide.
I'm gonna post some pics of mine soon
