There is a cheap way to make your car alot faster and its FREE! Weight loss! smile.gif

Smaller battery moved to the boot,
Remove AC (15kg hanging over the very front of your car)
Remove rear wiper
Stripped interior (rear seats, rear speakers, spare wheel and jack, rear seat belts, plastic trim, door cards are heavy too)
Remove Air bags

Also:
lightweight wheels
Carbon fiber or fiber glass bonnet (or an aluminum GT4 bonnet)
Carbon fiber or fiber rear hatch
Plastic windows
lightweight seats
lightweight mirrors (electric folding mirrors are 6kg a pair!!)

Here is mine recently stripped out:

I put it all back in as its ALOT louder when stripped. Especially when you have a uprated fuel pump buzzing behind you.

hi, having a huge problem. need to know if my car is superstrut or not. as the toyota dealers gave me false information saying that only gt4's have superstrut.

i have a 1995 celica gt st202 ssIII , i think its ssIII. superstrut or not?

kaz

SS-III are super strut yes. Has the Beams engine yes? If not its not a SS-III.

An easy way to see if you have super strut is to simply look at your front shocks.

These are SS:

These are what my SS TRD coilover look like:

On non super strut both the front and back shocks will look like the rears above, the one on the bottom.

Yep they are Rp-F1s. Had to order them directly from Japan. For the price you'd think they'd throw in the center caps rolleyes.gif

Im not sure if they'd fit the GT4 brakes but they should given that the GT4 came with 16"s as standard. Any offset fouling on the caliper can be solved with spacers.

Would it go well with the red?

Ive had both the 20v blacktop in my Levin and the Beams in my SS-III. The Beams is a better base for building power. To get a blacktop (better then the silvertop IMO) to even the same power as a standard Beams would be VERY expensive. Youd be much better off putting that money into the Beams.

But that doesnt make the 4A-GE 20v blacktop any less of a great engine. 8k rpm plus 6 speed gear box is ALOT of fun to drive. High revs plus short gears always puts a smile on my face. The 3S-GE Beams only revs to 7k and has 5 LONG gears, too long in my opinion. Having such long gears is a problem when all your power is literally at the redline.

My 20v Blacktop:

I was looking at how an oil catch tank would fit in my car today as i have one on the way to stop all the oily crap from the breathers going back into the intake, and i got a bit lost because ive two breathers.

Do i remove and fit the catch tank to the yellow breather or green breather?

Or would i blank off both intake ends and fit the catch tank to both breathers on the engine?

Ignore the blue circle, i was missing a bracket but i found it in the boot

I have 16"s just so ive less unsprung weight. Toyota put 16" on the car so if its good enough for them... smile.gif
17"s would look better but Super Strut doesnt appreciate heavy wheels.

Reallly? hopefully there wont be much of a difference so. THe TRD ones are black and green and marked TRD but the KYB ones are white and red and marked KYB

My TRD SUSKIT SuperStrut coilovers arrived today from ebay.
http://tuning-hq.com/parts_suskit.html

They are second hand and i would like to do as much as i can to service them before i fit them.

The shocks seem fine but im going to replace the upper ball joints on the TRD set. Would standard Toyots ball joints fit yes?
As far as i know TRD always use OEM parts when they can. Im also going to replace the Figure of 8 links in the Super Strut.

Im not going to go the expanse of changing the camber control arms and banana arms. Hopefully they're fine for another while yet.

It turns out that the rear set are KYB and not TRD as stated but KYB are pretty good and i got them for a good price. My only concern is matching the dampening setting on the rear to the front.

They are both 4 point adjustable. At the moment the TRDs are at 1 and the KYBs at 3 so im assuming that thats a close match but is there any way of measuring dampning force?
1 is soft and 4 is hard correct?

Is there any other bushes or small links that i should change while the suspension is ripped out?

What size injectors does the Yamaha BEAMS 3S-GE come with as standard?

What size injectors would be the best upgrade when used in conjunction with a fuel pressure regulator and air/fuel controller?

QUOTE (Rusty @ Dec 3, 2008 - 7:13 AM) *
so is it fixed and running smooth now?

It was pulling 167bhp with the exhaust silencer out (VERY loud!!) and 145bhp with the silencer IN. It is now making 170bhp with the silencer IN which is a 25bhp increase. My exhaust is too loud to run without the silencer. I must infest in a new one.

The power delivery is MUCH better. Before it would run out of puff at 5k but now it pulls strongly all the way to the rev limiter.

Im going to get new bigger injectors and a fuel pressure regulator and see if i can claim back more of my missing power. A better exhaust and cold air intake would be worth getting too as i am sucking in alot of hot air and my exhaust is just too loud to run open and too restricted with the silencer in plus STILL too loud.

Also my SS-III spoiler was stolen frown.gif

On a scrapyard search for a spoiler i stumbled across these and got them for a bargain:

Im only using the left Recaro as my driver seat. The left one is a bit rough for my liking plus its a bit bent as the chassis twisted it and roof squashed it.

They weight about 1350kg with a tank of petrol. The GT4 would weigh more because of the extra running gear but it does have an aluminum bonnet and roof to bring it back down a bit.

I decided to put mine on a bit of a diet so got light weight Enkeis (6.5kg each) and removed the Air Con. The air con bits weighed 13kgs plus it leachs power from the engine so no loss when you live in Ireland.

I'm selling my exhaust and ive been offered a GT4 standard exhaust system (to get me by while i wait for my new one) plus cash.

Would the GT4 system reach back the correct length to attach to me decat?

Is the GT4 exhasut the same length as a standard ST202 exhaust?

Thanks in advance

I am fixing the actual problem. the problem is it isnt getting enough fuel when under haevy demand and it has been traced to the fuel pump so its being replace with one thats good for 500bhp. I should get my power back and i'll build upwards from there over time.

It could be the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. My car is starved for fule from 5k upwards. Im fitting a 255ltr/h fuel pump and controlling the fuel with an Apexi neo to sort it out.

Ive no graph as his printer was down but from looking at the monitor this was roughly the problem:

The fuel is fine and bordering on rich up until 5k then it takes a massive dive. Starving the car of fuel.

The Walbro 255 liter an hour fuel pump im getting fitted is good for 500bhp and it will be all controlled by this gizmo:

"
The SAFC NEO marks the newest edition to the world famous Super AFC line of piggy back fuel controllers. Building upon the powerful SAFC II, the AFC NEO has taken piggy back style fuel control to a new level. The AFC NEO boasts an incredible 16 points of user definable fuel correction. VTEC control has also been incorporated for Honda/Acura applications. A complete monitor mode is also available to keep the driver/tuner informed of critical engine data.

Features include:

- Completely new case design
- Compact design
- Incorporates both AFC and VAFC functions in one unit
- 16 point fuel correction
- Color FED display
- User defined button and background colors
- Inverted "anti-glare" screen"

Does anybody know what size BEAMS injectors are?

As i said above, It has serious fuelling issues. Its starved for fuel from 5k upwards. 255ltrh fuel pump and remap through the Apexi neo will sort it out soon and bring it back to full power.

It has the standard redline of 7k. Would prefer 8k though

Im not sure about VVTi. I know on my AE111 the VVT worked by trottle postiton, not full on at a certain rev like VTEC
