yeah post up some pics. SS isnt that expensive, there wont be many people who will need to do it twice unless you buy 2nd hand parts. how much did it end up costing roughly (so people can weight up the price of converting to mac or buying new SS parts. ill be keeping the SS myself. The Superstrut is great put on crap roads it dose not last as long. I have a friend with a levin with the ss, got toyota to put in a new set and 6 months later they where gone again. With the age of the gt4 getting new parts is/will become more diffcult, before i started the conversion i was looking at Tein superstrut suspension and i would have had to wait 3 months for them which i was not willing to do. There are a couple of other brands out there i had a KYB set orginally but i did not feel like searching for a new set every couple of months and a lot appear to be out of manufacture when i last looked. |

I got the main components from a local scrap yard. The Suspension, the lower arm, the knuckle\hub, abs sensor and steering rod cost around €630 euro. I bought all these at different time’s I’m sure if I was to buy these at the same time I would have got them cheaper. To get Steering rod machined (extra threads) for tracking cost €30 euro. I got the bushings on line which cost around €150 euro from http://www.priracing.com. Apex lowering springs and koni adjustable insert dampeners cost €300 euro. The main cost was on the big breaks it was nearly €2000 euro. But I am from rip off Ireland where everything is overpriced. Plus the koni inserts, apex springs and the bushings are all extras of my choice. You do need to do something with the breaks the standard ST202 Breaks are just not good enough. I went with the Ksport Kit cause it came with a number of extras, * High quality brake pads * D.O.T. Compliant Stainless steel brake lines * Machined aluminium hats * Carbon steel brackets * 330mm (13") large ventilated discs plus the callipers will take brake pads from a number of manufactures (AP, FERODO, MINTEX, EBC and PAGID) Hope this helps. What’s the best method for posting images? Benefits from modification: Easier to get parts, Cheaper to get parts, No more Figure of 8, More options in modifying, Simpler and stronger suspension. Just for legal reasons. This is a document of my own personal experience I have informed you of all the problems I have ran into and how they where over come. Hi All, After Searching long and hard and finding no info i decided to go ahead and give it a go and i have done it. It was a pain in the hole but it is finally completed and to be honest there is very little difference in handling. I not 100% on what everyone calls the parts but i will do my best to get it correct. Parts Needed: Lower Front Arm of ST202, ST202 Suspension, ST202 Knuckle, ST202 Tracking/Steering Rod, you will need more thread (an extra 1 to 1.5 inch) on the Rod to track the front wheels. Big Break Disc KIT for ST202. ABS Senor of ST202, AntiRoll Linkage around 1 or 1.5 inch i can not remember right now. (i can remember it was from a Nissan) Wheel Bearings, Front Prothane Urethane Bushings, New Ball joints to connect Lower Arm To Knuckle. Attach the Dust shield from ST205 Knuckle to ST202 Knuckle. holes will not match up so new holes will be needed. Take the Hub off the ST205 knuckle and attach it to the Knuckle of the ST202 this way there should be no problem connecting the drive shaft (add new wheel bearing etc). Add the new Prothane Urethane Bushings to the Front Arm and connect to car. (help get back some handling) optional you can use the standard ones if you want Add new ball joints connect Knuckle to LowerArm. Connect the Suspension to Knuckle. I added Koni adjustable inserts to improve handling and ride quality and they where cheaper than coilovers. Coilovers will come later Attach new Big Breaks, (i got K Sport 6 spot breaks for the ST202) if you want you can try and attach the standard ST205 Breaks but i don't know how safe that would be. and that should be that. In the End it is possible and it is now done, so far running like a dream. It dose cost a bit at first but should be better for you in the long run, parts are cheaper and easer got. There is very little difference in handling, there is a small amount of body roll on cornering probably dew to damper setting on suspension, And a little shaky at high speed i would say it is dew to the standard anti roll bars with the make fit anti roll linkages. i will try upgrading the anti roll bars with thicker ST202 ones later in the Year. Can anyone tell me what did the Toyota Rally team Replace the ST205 SuperStrut Suspension With? I know its a Macpherson setup, but what parts did they use. any help would be Appreciated. regadrs Lmac |
