timing belt for head swap... porsche 924 or 944... ive read probably too much on it, oversimplified in my head. for me a 3sgte is totally out of the question due to funds... and ive got a corolla, not a celica... although it has the same 7afe in it that the st has. so i really wanted to drop in a 4agze... i figured the supercharger would end up fun and full of torque, but then itd invovle a transmission swap too because ive got a p.o.s. automatic. i could go on for hours whining about what i want to do to my car, but in all reality probably never will.

really? from what i read... a headswap would be easier than a total engine swap in the end, you just need specific parts... but none are very rare at all.

how about a headswap? take the top end of a 4agze and slap it onto your 7afe... be sure to grab the pistons too. then you'll have to do some wiring... possibly add a hood scoop for intercooler clearence... and viola, you have a supercharged engine for not too much cash (a 7agze if you will). and theres always the bigger pulley for more boost. but, itll tear the transmission up quite quickly, as opposed to a turbo. its always got that shock of the boost kicking in from the instant you hit the gas, it will mess up the transmission more than a turbo, the turbo allows the transmission to get goin before it hits it with the boost, a lot less stressful.

metros actually do have some acceleration... i pulled up next to a kid i know that was driving one... revved my engine and started laughing... the light turned green and he shot off. so i floored it in my blazingly fast corolla... started rounding a bend... saw a cop, let the kid go.

what ive read is it can take 5 or so reliably... but i figure if you're gonna buy the supercharger... may as well toss in the extra cash, get quite the beastly engine. ive never done it due to lack of money & ive got an automatic... that'll die quite fast & a manual conversion is just too much a pain in the arse

i was under the impression that you could swap the head off a 4agze along with the supercharger on a 7a block. problem is boost cant go insanely high, the connecting rods and crankshaft cant take all that much stress, but i read up on a 7agze... biggest concern is transmission, you need a beefy clutch to handle all the torque.

as for just taking the supercharger... doubt that'll work, plus the boost may be too much without lower compression pistons meant for the forced induction.

ohhh the 7age... what ive always wanted to do, but never had the funds to do so. anyways... you'd probably be better off putting in a 3sgte or if you have a 7afe... a 4agze would be quite beefy. im more apt to talk about the a series engines since ive got a p.o.s. corolla and ive read quite a bit on what engine swaps/cross-breeds would be the best using the available mounts.

this thread has been dead for some time, but i searched for 4age and found it.
corolla & prism = same car... joint venture between toyota & gm. the st celica has the same engine (good 'ol 7afe).
matrix & vibe = again... pretty much the same car... another joint venture. this time they share engines and both use new corolla suspension components i believe. who cares what other cars have your engine... if it works, it works. someone could drop a 3sgte into a pos metro (hahahah 3 cylinder car)... would you lose respect then?

hi everyone. i signed up here because the car ive always wanted is a 6th gen celica, but as the old saying goes... wish in one hand, drop a load in the other... which'll be filled first? anyways ive got a '96 corolla, so there also should be some useful information since it shares the same engine with the ST. anyways, i hope to one day have a 6th gen., every place around here overcharges big time for a used celica.
