I will definitely be on the market for another one as soon as his insurance company cuts me a check. The liftbacks from 98-99 are getting very hard to find though with mileage lower than 150k. But I am already looking!

I know right. No glass broken at all! Amazing. I have to wait to see what the insurance company says before I decide to buy it back and part it out or not.
I am expecting to get bent over hard by them, since that is what insurance companies do. BY the way, it was a 2010 Camry that did the damage. So if you see one, run it off the road!

So the story here is that this old handicapped guy was driving drunk at 1 in the afternoon on Monday, with his passengers Stolichnaya and Budweiser, and decided to smash into a row of parked cars, mine being the first target. The pics speak for themselves. It was a very sad day, as I loved the car like a kid and spent countless hours working on it and I absolutely loved driving it. Please don't drink and drive, for the sake of 6th gen Celicas all across the world. There are few of them left, and these things make even fewer...

Don't cry, I believe he's in jail!

I would like to get rid of it if possible. It has one vacuum input, and two vacuum outputs.
I think the outputs are to the IAC and the FPR.
Can I just hook those two items up to manifold or port vacuum and get rid of the charcoal canister?
It was plugged solid when I took it off, and I was told that this was causing the FPR to dump full fuel pressure constantly.
I was then told that this extra fuel may have greatly accelerated cylinder wash out and made my rings go bad.
I now have two cylinders with very low compression.
Does anyone know if this is true? And can I get rid of the canister? A new one is over $200!

ahhh good idea...that's probably why the dealer asked me for my VIN today. They told me they list somewhere around 20 different throttle bodies for 5sfe motors. I've seen two...
But it's a moot point because I drove 350 miles and got the original throttle body back today and it didn't solve the problem. Cylinder 4 misfire and Idle-Up Valve not functioning properly when I turn on the A/C.
Maybe the intake is plugged up, or the Fuel Pressure Regulator is fubar'ed. I've spent $500 at the garage and it's still not diagnosed. Shoot me!

I can check the gasket yes, but there's really no way for me to tell whether or not it's right without knowing if the throttle bodies are proprietary to the intakes...

Two Different Intakes, Throttlebodies...

One for Convertibles, one for Coupes and Liftbacks.

So I put another 5sfe engine in my car and it's running like ****. Garage said there was no vacuum to the Fuel Pressure Regulator, even though the vacuum line was connected from the intake.
So, I thought, pinched line, or clogged tube.
OR
This...
As you can see in the links, there are two different throttle body's listed for the 5sfe motor. One has a third vacuum pipe coming off the top facing the driver's side, and one has the third pipe facing the passenger's side. My original car had the one witgh all three facing the same direction. The new motor I got had the other one. So I swapped back to my old throttle body to keep it consistent with the MAP sensor placement, and other parts on the car. HOWEVER, I did not switch the intake as well.

My question is, does anyone know if these throttle bodies will only work with their respective intakes? Or are they swappable?
This could be my issue, if the gasket is covering a vacuum hole, or if the old throttle body just doesn't line up with the old intake...That could be restricting the vacuum flow to the FPR hose...
I never had the car running with the other throttle body to tell...

Nope, runs up to 4600-4800 RPM's until the ECU starts trying to lean it out.

But the injectors were really just used for test purposes anyways. Had an engine misfire, and was going to use those injectors to rule out a problem with the original injectors, but it just compounded the issue really.
I think they're out of an older Supra. 315cc light green ones. The only reason I even have them is because some guy named StephenAudet on here sold them to me as 5sfe injectors, when they were really like 4AGZE injectors or something...

Figured it out.

There was no vacuum going to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Therefore it was stuck on at maximum pressure, pumping as much fuel as the fuel pump could throw at it constantly.
Hose was connected, but no vacuum coming from the intake.
We just stole vacuum from a different spot with a splice, and it runs like a charm.
I believe the reason there's no vacuum has something to do with changing the throttlebody.
Apparently there are two different types, which might use a different gasket, or be proprietary to their respective intakes.
I know we switched it, btu we did not switch intakes as well. Can anyone shine some light on that subject???

I think this was done for different years, maybe the placement of the MAP sensor being changed too.

Anyways, eventually I will check it. But it runs great now that it has vacuum...

I have a set of 315cc injectors from a 7MGE Supra.
When I tried them in the 5sfe the car dies at about 4500-4700 rpms in every gear, with the pedal to the rug.
My question is, should this be happening going from the stock 220cc injectors?
Will the computer automatically adjust the fuel output over time?
Or do I need something else to tell it how to regulate the air/fuel ratio?

OK the CEL came on finally. It gave me a cylinder 4 misfire code.
Compression, Plugs, Wires, Injectors, All Good.
Got any other ideas that could cause just one cylinder to misfire?
It has constant spark coming from the dizzy too.
Struggling here...

fuel filter clogged? a fuel line clogged? stale gasoline? how long was the gasoline in your tank before using it.

The gas was sitting in it for about a 1 1/2 months. That could be the culprit actually...if not, I'm sure it doesn't help.

OK. Ruled out a few things.

Compression is good in all 4 cylinders.
Hooked up the smoke machine to vacuum system- no leaks.
Checked the timing and it's perfect.
Garage told me our vacuum piping is all in the correct places.
EGR not stuck open.
Plugs and wires all good.
Dizzy and wires all good.
Injectors worked great on last motor, and all connected correctly to my knowledge. Plugs just go straight across the wiring harness, 1 2 3 4, and match perfectly with where their respective injectors are at.

I'm not getting a CEL yet. I've driven it for about 30 miles. Just poor performance, occasional stalling when I press the clutch to release rpms on the engine, and rough idle.

Almost has to be a sensor of some type eh? But as I said, they all worked on the old motor. It actually ran better than this one, and it was only holding about 60 lbs. of compression in cylinder 1.

Hit me.

Story: Just replaced my 5sfe (lost compression in cyl. 1) with another one that supposedly has 100k on it.
Rebuilt entire top end. Brand new plugs, wires. All sensors transferred from old motor in working condition.

Symptoms:
Car won't idle steadily...very rough miss.
Has no power. Absolutely no bottom end.
When I am cruising at high RPM's and press the clutch, the engine stalls.
Also stalls every time I come to a stop sign or try to slow down and turn in somewhere.

Any ideas?
I've checked grounds, plugs, wires, timing, vacuums, sensors. Dizzy worked on old motor. I'm flopping like a fish here.
I haven't gotten any CEL's. Haven't had a chance to test compression just yet either.
Please tell me the bottom end of this motor is not bad too. That will make 3 bad bottom end 5sfe's for me if it is. And I will probably drop a stick of dynamite in the car if that's the case.

Do you have a link to that diagram you posted up there?
I could really use it.

does that goto the map sensor? where did the vacuum line goto?

Problem is, this arose in an engine swap. I was not there when the first engine was taken out, so I don't know what it was attached to. My brother did the work, and he doesn't remember. Luckily I was able to steal one off of my old motor that was warrantied because the parts store had not sent it back to the vendor yet. But I would still like to know what the hell it is, what it does, and why I can't find a new one anywhere I look. According to the vacuum diagrams it's a gas filter of some sort. Perhaps exhaust fumes?

OK. We took a vacuum hose off of it, so it can't be a cap.
I think gas filter is correct. Now, where can I find a new one?

It's located right next to the EGR Valve. I believe it is supposed to have a vacuum hose coming from it, going to somewhere else as well. This is a 5sfe engine. I need to know what that sensor is so I can replace it. Obviously mine is effed. Any help appreciated.
Thanks!
What Am I?

unless i am mistake that is no sensor, its just a vacum cap, looks like a 3/8" cap. pretty common tongue.gif but mine are black!

That makes sense. There is no power going to it...just vacuum.
Thanks!

I need the interior plastics trim for the hatch and also the rear trunk area as well as the screws and clips for them. I don't need the two for the sides over the wheel wells in the trunk, just the back part. They are big parts I know, but they are light and shouldn't cost a ridiculous amount to ship.
PM me with a price, shipped to 16248. Thanks.

Also, I'll take the undercarriage plastics if the guy above me doesn't get them.

My carpet is old, smelly, flooded, and nasty. I want to change it out but I can't seem to find a reliable source for the carpet. Does anyone on here know where I can get it? I don't want some ebay crap you have to cut yourself...I'm not that talented.
PM me if you know of any place that sells it, or if you have a decent one lying around. Will consider tan or dark gray.
