Since the GT-S is already such a high strung engine, what would happen if you added a turbo or S/C? Would it like blow up? -Michael- |

I'm not into major mods...maybe upgrading tires and wheels, CAI, minor exterior stuff and maybe a Supercharger, so nothing as expansive as an engine swap. I am leaning towards the GT with the new TRD S/C which promises HP and torque gains of nearly 50%. An engine with that sort of power is better to me than one that u have to revv into 6K to get anything done. It sounds picky...but the fact that the GT has rear drums is sort of a turn off...I'm picky about 4 wheel discs which I know the GT-S and 6th gen GT have. -Michael- |

Hey everyone...I get my license in less than 2 months and I'm car searching at the moment. I have been looking at Celicas for the past two months or so, and I think they are a pretty good canidate for a first car considering what I'm looking for. Anyway, my question to you all is which Celica do you all think is best? The 6th gen. Celica GT has 135 HP and 145 lb-ft of torque, and the current Celica GT has 140 HP and 125 lb-ft of torque and the GT-S has 180 HP and 130 lb-ft of torque. I know the GT-S has the obvious torque advantage, but of those three which do you think is going to be the best to live with, most fun to drive, ect? All three are good handling, fun to drive cars which is what I am looking for, and the price is about the same give or take $6K. Thanks -Michael- |

I was just looking at the eurou type 2 kit and i clicked on the page where it said to buy it from, and I noticed it was a japanese site. For some reason, I am sort of hesitant about buying things from another country online. Does anyone have any experience with buying from japan? How does it work? How much is that kid in USD? thanks! -Michael- |

My dad knows the guy, and he wants to sell his '94 GT pretty soon. It only has 54K miles on the clock...and that's pretty impressive for a '94. I am waiting for word on whether it's an auto or a 5 speed, but I think it's a 5 speed because the Solara is a stick and the guy is a real auto- enthusiast. He is a neat freak and has maintained the car as well as possible since he bought it, and as you can see, it looks like it's in mint condition. No word on price, but I don't think it'd be too bad. What do you guys think? ![]() -Michael- |

There are 17"s on that car and if you look at the front, they look like good size rims. With the odly shaped rear end though, they look too small. The 4 cylinder is the one identical to the Camry and I don't think they are going to offer a manual for the Gen 2, just a sequential. -Michael- |

Toyota Stages World Premiere Of All-New Camry Solara Coupe At 2003 New York Auto Show 04/17/2003 New York, NY The all-new Toyota Camry Solara coupe made its world premiere at a press conference today at the 2003 New York Auto Show. The all-new second generation Solara is the most American of any Toyota to date. Born and bred in the United States, the Solara's product planning, technical and styling development was managed by Toyota Technical Center (TTC) in Ann Arbor, Mich., Calty Design Research in Newport Beach, Calif., and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. Finally, Solara will be built exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky in Georgetown. "With all aspects of the all-new Solara's development taking place in the United States, the total package was completed in less than two years," said Don Esmond, senior vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. "The final creation is a new Solara that is sportier, more powerful, more refined and larger, inside and out, than its predecessor." The 2004 Solara will be available in the SLE, SE and SE Sport grades, each with its own interior surface treatments. The SLE model will receive a rich wood-grain trim, while a brushed aluminum and silver finish trim will be applied to the SE grade. SE models equipped with an all-new Sports Package will feature a unique interior complete with black graphite-accented trim. Solara will be equipped with either a V6 or four-cylinder engine. The Solara's all-new 3.3-liter V6 will generate 225 horsepower at 5,600 RPM, an increase of 27 horsepower, and 240 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 RPM, 28 more lb.-ft. of torque than the current model. With both engines, Solara will be EPA-certified as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV). Solaras equipped with the V6 will be mated to an all-new five-speed automatic sequential transmission. Solara's increased power will be smoothly transferred to the wheels via a performance-tuned suspension. Virtually every mounting and pivot point between the suspension and the body has been repositioned and recalibrated. Specially-tuned struts improve Solara's ride quality, while unique springs and front and rear stabilizer bars reduce body roll and pitch, resulting in a stable yet invigorating steering feel and response. Stopping power and feel is enhanced with standard four-wheel disc brakes. The styling concept of the all-new Solara integrates both convex and concave surfaces that flow dynamically down the length of the car to give Solara its characteristic shape and advanced style. An extensive and pronounced "V" character line begins at the grille to separate aggressive elongated "eye" shaped headlamps that enhance Solara's sporty image. Solara's front fascia is further complemented by fog lamps that provide a wider, aggressive look and stance. The exterior culminates with rounded corners at the rear that blend into an integrated rear bumper, highlighting the look and design of the rear deck. Bumper height was reduced on the new Solara to give it a sportier stance and body gaps were narrowed. The rear combination lamp begins at the end of the character line forming an emotional teardrop shape, while an optional rear spoiler further strengthens the Solara's sense of style. Like its exterior, the Solara interior evokes a sporty and stylish image highlighted by a restyled instrument panel and center-mounted multi-function display featuring the time, outside temperature gauge, fuel consumption, average speed and elapsed time. Solara targets class leading fit and finish quality by narrowing gaps between interior surfaces by 0.5 millimeters or less, the design of an invisible front-passenger airbag, and chrome accents. The 2004 Solara offers an amazing 20 percent increase in interior storage space by providing for a new front console box, cupholders that double as additional storage, and a center console that offers dual storage units. Solara also offers built-in storage and cupholders in the rear quarter panel. The front console door, glove box and register knobs utilize silicone dampers for smooth operation. New for Solara are Satellite XM radio, and navigation system options. The Solara receives the latest generation in Toyota's DVD-based navigation systems. It features more than five million verified data points and its route searching capabilities are more than twice as fast as competitive systems. The Solara's 6.7-inch screen is among the biggest on the market today. A target of best-in-class safety features will be supported by Solara's use of standard front side-impact airbags, four-wheel ABS and independent rear seat headrests. Front and rear curtain side airbags also will be available. The new Sports Package, available on SE models, will include a special five-piece body kit, a unique dark-charcoal interior with black graphite trim, sport-fabric seats, exclusive sport gauges and meter colors, sport tires wrapped around 17-inch wheels, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob and distinctive aluminum pedals. The Sports Package also will feature a performance-tuned suspension that includes stiffer front and rear springs, as well as sport-tuned front and rear shock absorbers. The first generation Solara debuted in the fall of 1998 and was developed to target a new opportunity in the sport specialty segment. The new Solara's appeal will extend beyond just one set demographic, it will appeal more to consumers' lifestyles rather than life stages. "The all-new Solara was engineered and designed in America for a variety of American tastes," said Esmond. "Consumer appeal in Solara will range from style, to design, to impressions, to excitement. The Solara buyer will want something extra in life regardless of their age or life stage." The first 2004 Solara model will roll off the line later this summer and will go on sale mid-August. ![]() ![]() ![]() SLE interior: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well I wanted to let you all know that I had my dad go and look at it yesterday. The interior is Cloth with no floormats either. Let's see...where do I start. On the exterior there is a hole in one of the headlights, putty on the drivers door which means damage, the tires were almost bald, and the paint is in OK condition. On the inside there was significant water damage which smelled, stained seats, and a riceboy shifter which tells me the car was driven really hard. Sorry, but I will find something else. Just wondering, what should I expect to pay for a 97-99 ish GT with spoiler, leather, CD, sunroof, side skirts and alloys with between 50 and 80K on the clock? thanks -Michael- |

MY attraction to the IS300 is based on the car's amazing handling and the sweet, sweet sound of that I6. My dad has had a few for company cars and once you drive one, it's impossible to forget. -Michael- |

See, I'm 15 and I turn 16 in may and get my license in june. I will need a car by the end of the summer because starting my junior year, I am going into the apprenticeship program which is where you leave school every day at 2:30 and go to a job...blah blah. I am a huge car enthusiast and my dad works for Toyota, so I get lots of extra benefits if I buy a Toyota product. For example, I might buy the car now and then have him give it to some of his guys and have them look it over. I'd pay dealer cost for the car and dealer cost for parts, and nothing for labor. So, If i buy the car now and let my dad have it for two months- who knows, might need a new timing belt or something- then it wil be ready by the time I turn 16. Now, I don't plan to own the car for a terribly long ass time, maybe 2-3 years, but at that point I need RWD and more than 4 cylinders. So I think the IS300 will be a nice car for a 18-20 year old guy. I decided on the Celica because I have to have a stick...driving an automatic seems like a handicap, and I wanted something nimble and fun to drive. I also like the way the car looks. I was originally looking at getting an '03 'Rolla S, but I think the Celica is more what I want as far as price/ performance is concerned. Thanks for all the help, and keep the questions coming ![]() -Michael- |

Actually, I don't plan on keeping the car for very long. I'm going to swap it out for an IS300 when I go to college. I don't mind a few mods, but I'm not going very big. -Michael- |
