Hi Guys, I've just pruchased from eBay the leather version of my 3 post steering wheel, airbag version. I want to swap them over bu how can I do this without causing a problem with the airbag. From looking at the unit waiting to go in there are 2 screws that hold the sirwag onto the steering wheel and simple clip to plug the controlling cable in. The way I logically think about doing this is to disconnect the battery, remove the airbag screws and disconnect the electical clip and then remove the steering wheel. To install the new on I was going to just reverse these steps. Does anyone know what size nut holds the steering wheel on, is it a standard socket or a special tool? Thanks LST |

Hi Guys. So I have an issue with my remote locking - it has a low range and can be temperamental as to when it locks / unlocks the car. It likes making me press it 5-7 times especially in the rain, very annoying. I've not got much experience in this area but wanted to sort this issue out by upgraded the system and hopefully getting a few extra features, this is what i would want from the new system: 1) Remote Central Locking 2) Immobiliser 3) Remote Boot(trunk) Release - once i've added the electronic boot release to the car (least important) 4) Auto Closure of Electric Windows on locking car 5) Auto locking of doors when car moves or ignition turned on 6) Lights flash for arming/disarming Anyone know if there is a system out there that does this, if so any recommendations? Thanks ~LST |

Thanks Guys, I didn't really want to add fog lights under the car unless I really had too.. if I'm making changes before an MOT it's probably easier to re-fit the stock lights. Frisp did your solution tick the MOT box? With the JDM lights, both rear bulbs light up when the brake lights are pressed - is it possible to move the PIN for the brake light that sits behind the reflector to the fog light pin.. that way one light goes with the brakes and the other when the fog lights are activated - anyone know if that would satisfy the MOT man. Hey Guys, So I need some help from anyone who has installed the JDM rear lights. After purchasing them off e-bay I fitted them on my car last weekend with no problems with the exception of the rear fog lights - there doesn't appear to be any!! When looking at the wiring plugs the standard UK lights have all 6 pins wired up but the JDM only appears to have 5. Has anyone else seen this and resolved the problem? I'm not sure if the car will pass an MOT in the UK without the rear fog lights any ideas? Thanks |

The GTO-607c are component speakers, they came with 2x 6" Mid Woofers, Cross Overs and 1-7/8" Tweeters. Most brands do this type of speaker including Pioneer, here is a website I spent a lot of time looking at whilst choosing: 16-17 cm Component Speakers. The cross-over splits the low and high frequencies and sends them to the relevant speaker, in theory giving a much better sound and it seems to work. To mount the front speakers I purchased this adapter from eBay. I then mounted the tweeters in the door as they were a little too big for the triangles behind the mirrors - they came with a flush mounting kit which kept them looking neat. Hope the info is helpful. ~LST PS. I just noticed your from Plymouth in the UK. I grew up in Tavistock, the Hoe used to be my old stomping ground. It's great to see some more brits on here! |

I went for JBL's as for my project I'm keeping as Toyota stock or approved as possible. Toyota and JBL seemed to have recently partnered (http://www.toyotajbl.com/) so I thought I would give them ago and i was really impressed and because they are 6" speakers with mounting rings they were really easy to fit. I purchased both sets of speakers from Ebay and saved some serious cash, here's my setup: Front: JBL GTO-607c Rear: JBL GTO-627 As has been suggested the tweeter cabling is there behind the door panel, but I didn't end up using it for my front speakers as they came with a digital cross over unit. I am however thinking of adding a second set of tweeters at a angle to the ones I have already installed and utilising this. At the end of the day it is all down to personal preference and budget but the research is half the fun!. ~LST |

Hey Guys, So i've been on the boards for a few months now but thought I would formally introduce my Celica to you, share my project ideas and get your input. I have a 1999 Celica ST in Silver (UK Spec) and whereever possible I want to use Toyota or Toyota approved components to keep that OEM look. The Gen6 Celica is one of the few cars where I think Toyota actually got the styling spot on. So here are my plans: Exterior ---------------------- OEM Side Skirts SS-III Front and Rear Splitters JDM Rear Lights Projector Front Lights (I won't be fitting a Spoiler so as to keep her ST identity!) Interior ---------------------- Leather Seats Leather Gear Knob (any good suggestions?) Performance ---------------------- Toyo Proxes T1-R Uprated Brakes (Suggestions please - I want grooved discs upfront) 4AGE Silver Top Engine Swap Front and Rear Strut Braces Suspension Upgrade I'm sure some of these will never come to be but it's good to dream. I will add some photo's of the car soon, especially when I fit the rear lights. If anyone has any other suggestions for the car please share. ~LST |

Yeah - i was amazed on the difference new speakers made. I went for component speakers upfront which upgraded my 4-speaker setup to 6. The clarity is awesome. |

Hey, So I've recently just done a front and rear speaker replacement. If you have a 4 speaker set up then the sizes are as follows: Front Speakers - most people use 6.5" as these fit nicely behind the grilles but you will either need to modify the existing or do what I did and buy a moutning adapter from Ebay. The stock mountings are for 8" speakers. Rear Speakers - 6" (trust me on this one) - 6.5" will fit but again will need a little bit of work to make new screw holes but I believe this is easy enough. ~LST |

I used JBL GTO-627's, these are a 6" speaker which come with mounting rings to increase this to 6.25" or 6.5" if needed. For the Celica these are not needed and the speaker fits perfectly into place using the original 4 screw holes - no modifications needed! I reattached the foam surround from the stock speakers to fill the gap between the speaker and the trim panel. Now they aren't the prettiest of speakers with the grilles off but they sound great paired with the GTo-607c's up front and I love the way that they tweeter is just visible through the grilles when they are put back on. ~LST |

Thanks D, JBL make it pretty easy on their website as they have a technical sheet for the enclosure requirements but I as you say I like to research too. thanks for the help, i'll post pics as I build it all up. |

Hey well D-Man no flaming of your methods to date so i guess they aren't all that crazy huh! Anyways i've planned the basic sub enclosure design - this gives me around 35 cubic litres according to my calculations (about .4 off the optimum 35.4 for the sub). As you can see with this i've followed the example of most pre-bought boxes and have the sub pointing straight back towards the rear of the car. I don't have the sub yet so using the cone and string method is tricky - will this design make it sound awful? It seems to be how most people fit them.. |

Good choice. I just got some regular silicon sealant from the local B&Q - I used it between the speaker and adapter but you could use it where ever 2 parts join! Probably won't matter too much unless you are amping the speakers but if your going to do a job best to do it right! |

I don't know much about Kenwood to be honest but from brand strength I would say Alpine all the way. Previous comments on this thread also recommend them but I doubt there is really too much in it and either will be a massive improvement on the stock's. When you fit the adapters remember to use the silicon sealant to prevent rattling! Good Luck! |

Ahh, i see what you mean now - I didn't have that problem as I'm using a cross over and had to cut the white connector off and attached the wires directly to the unit. If i wasn't though I would have still done the same thing but used a small terminal block instead of the cross over. Personally I wouldn't worry about the harness / connector but I suppose it does make it all nice and factory fit style. In regards to speaker size the only unit you are going to get to fit directly in is a 8"/20cm - these should just screw straight in with no problems. With the 6 1/2" you are either going to have to modify the existing adapter the stock speakers are mounted in, buy a ready made adapter or make your own from a sheet of MDF. |

yeah it looks good (not sure about the stuff in the display cabinet).. more power than I'm looking at though, potentially the following combo: Sub model: JBL: GT5-10 - 10" (JBL GT5-10" Guide) Amp Model: BL: GTO-752e Amplifier So from the advice here and my research I'm looking at the following for the sub enclosure for a 10" sub: A ported enclosure sounds best sound against complexity of build. For my combo I will need 35.4 liters. Different shape sides to prevent resonance issues Have the Sub pointing towards the rear of the car with a slight angle upwards Any other tips - also any thoughts on the my Amp/Sub choice, will this be enough for my needs? |

Hey, I guess i'm not too clear on what you are referring to as a harness, me being dumb and I couldn't access the link. The stock door mounts are for 8" speakers, i've seen a number of posts where people have talked about fitting an 8" sub in here so I guess there would be no reason why you wouldn't be able to fit an 8" 2/3 way speaker but one of the more experience guys would be able to give you some advice there. My 6.5" worked fine and sits perfectly behind the stock door grilles: Though I do need to properly mount that crossover unit. |
